CEO and Founder, FEED, New York City
It began ten years ago with a bag. As a student spokesperson for the United Nations World Food Programme, Lauren Bush Lauren witnessed childhood malnutrition in Africa and Latin America that devastated her—and sparked her idea for the first FEED tote, which resembles a food-ration sack and is stamped with the number of meals its purchase will provide. “I needed to create a unique way to activate my peers that didn’t require writing a big check or attending a fancy benefit,” she says. FEED has expanded to a full line of bags and accessories and supplied close to 100 million meals to children around the world. The former model and new mom, who is also the granddaughter of a U.S. president and niece of another (and is married to a member of fashion’s first family), hews to a “simple and polished” style in both her wardrobe and home—all the better to focus on her heartfelt mission.
