Welcome to Eudora, Moeckel Family!
O
n July 1, 2021, Mr. Stu Moeckel began serving the students, families, and community of Eudora as our new superintendent of schools. Mr. Moeckel and his family have officially become part of Cardinal Nation, following the seven-year tenure of Steve Splichal, who accepted a superintendent position in Dubois, Wyoming, after the 2020-2021 school year. Mr. Moeckel comes to Eudora after serving the students and families of Madison-Virgil USD 386, in Madison, Kansas, as their superintendent of schools and high school principal. Prior to serving in USD 386, Mr. Moeckel was a high school principal and activities director at Victoria High School, following nine years as an industrial and technology studies teacher. Mr. Moeckel earned his Bachelor’s degree and Master’s in Education Administration from Fort Hays State University. In May of 2022, Mr. Moeckel will conclude his doctoral degree from Wichita State University. Heading into the 2021-2022 school year after a full year in a pandemic is an obvious priority. Mr. Moeckel wants to see Eudora Schools continue to provide students and staff with a safe learning experience while maximizing the potential of our staff and students through academics, activities, and athletics. “I am excited to be a part of the Eudora community and serve others in helping to continue the great things that are going on!” This community and its residents have been so supportive of myself and my family during this transition making us feel right at home,” said
Mr. Moeckel. “Our schools are filled with amazing staff, teachers, and students. I am eager to meet and work with everyone.” Mr. Moeckel’s wife, Summer, an elementary teacher for 17 years, is currently an elementary teacher for Lawrence Public Schools. Together they have a daughter, Brennan, and two sons, Braxton and Brantley. The entire Moeckel family is excited about the opportunities that exist in Eudora. “Being new to the district, I am excited learn all the amazing and innovative things going on at USD 491,” said Moeckel. “This school year will be a great opportunity to learn from the changes we made last year, as well as reestablish our traditions that make Eudora so special to our community and its patrons!” Welcome to Eudora, Moeckel family!

Eudora Students Eat Free in 2021-2022:
The USDA extends free meals through the 2021-2022 school year
I
n response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) allowed all students to receive free meals, beginning in the spring of 2020. During the 2020-2021 school year, this opportunity was continued, benefitting all Eudora students. Earlier this summer, the USDA continued this effort ensuring that all Eudora students will have access to free breakfast and lunch throughout the 2021-2022 school year! “This is a great opportunity for all families in the Eudora School district,” said Robert Wood, Director of Food and Nutrition Services. “Knowing
that we can help provide a basic need for all students so they can focus on learning is very important to our staff.” It is important for students and families to know the free meals apply to 1 free breakfast and 1 free
lunch per day for each student. Second meals, additional entrees/ milk, and a la carte items will be charged against the student’s meal account. “It is our hope that providing free breakfast and lunch will reduce stress and burden on our students and their families, allowing students to simply focus on learning and enjoying school,” says Wood. Should you have any questions regarding free meals during the 20212022 school year, please contact Robert Wood, Director of Food and Nutrition Services via email at robertwood@eudoraschools.org.

Eudora Schools Transportation and Shuttle Services
I
Helping students travel to and from school safely
n just a couple of short weeks, school will begin and Eudora Schools is excited to welcome your students back into our classrooms, our buildings, and our buses! Eudora Schools continues with our commitment to helping students arrive at school on time and ready to learn, as well as provide opportunities to make it home safely each day. Our bus shuttle schedule strategically allows in town students the opportunity to be transported between our schools and designated dropoff-locations within our community. Students who live within our district boundaries, but outside Eudora city limits, have the ability to request bus transportation to and from their homes. “We will make adjustments over The district reminds parents to take the first few weeks to become more BUS RIDING SAFETY TIPS: note of the schedule’s morning pick up efficient, while also providing families Please share the following tips and expectations with your child before the first day of school to ensure a positive, safe, times and not drop students off more with confidence in our services.” and enjoyable transportation experience. than ten (10) minutes prior to departure From time to time, we understand • The bus is an extension of our schools. Notifications and mobile app connect schools and families
T
he district’s automated parent notification system is a powerful way for parents and guardians of Eudora Schools students to receive important information from the school district. Messages from the principal or other district representatives are delivered by any combination of phone, e-mail and SMS text message to notify families within minutes of an emergency or unplanned event that might cause a change in the school schedule or routines. The system also is used to alert parents when a student is absent without known parental permission. Parents are encouraged to visit https://eudoraschools. parentlink.net/smartlink/, or scan the QR code with your mobile device, to download our mobile app. Our easy to navigate mobile app provides parents and families an
opportunity to stay connected on the go while pulling content from our website and social media. Any user can customize the content and set up push notifications to stay in the loop. “The district’s use of automated notifications, social media, and website play a large role in keeping parents informed,” said Mark Dodge, director of school improvement and communications. “Eudora Schools believe it is important to ensure parents are informed be it a student absence, notification of a crisis drill or school closure due to inclement weather.” *Scan this code with an iOS or Android device and you will be taken to the appropriate location to download the app.
