DR THE HONOURABLE KEITH ROWLEY, PRIME MINISTER OF THE REPUBLIC OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO - REPUBLIC DAY MESSAGE TO THE NATION

Fellow Citizens, Today we mark 42 years since Parliament first met under our new Republican Constitution. As I reflect on that first sitting, I am again reminded of the weighty responsibility entrusted to all of us who represent our beloved nation in that esteemed place. I would like to take this opportunity to urge all citizens to demonstrate a keen interest in our Parliamentary proceedings. Persons either elected or appointed to sit here make decisions that have a profound impact on all our lives. Elected officials ought to make representation on your behalf and act in a way that ensures that your individual rights are protected and that the interests of the national community are served. In this vein, the choice of persons who serve in Opposition are as equally important as those who serve in Government. A Republican form of Government is a system whereby citizens rule through their elected representatives. It is therefore paramount that we are closely attuned to

the nature of the general representation we are afforded and more specifically to the way this representation is exercised in the Parliament. In 2006 the Parliament began televising its proceedings via a dedicated television channel. Online streaming began shortly thereafter. This was an important step in ensuring that you are regularly updated on matters of national interest. We cannot hold our leaders to account if we are ignorant to the quality of their representation. A truly Republican state requires the involvement of all us working together to protect and maintain the fundamental human rights and freedoms that have been entrenched in the Constitution. On behalf of my Government and my family I wish all the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago a safe and happy Republic Day 2018. Dr Keith Rowley Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago

WISHING YOU A HAPPY 42ND

A MESSAGE FROM CARIVOG INTERNATIONAL The Grand Finals of our signature event in the United Kingdom, Ms Trinidad & Tobago UK National Queen Show, will be held on Saturday 29th September 2018 in London; at the end of the week when the T&T Diaspora in the UK celebrates our Republic Day; 42 years as an independent Republic. We have survived many challenges to reach where we are today and even though we are not able to stage our Talented Teens Competition this year, the show will nevertheless feature some young performers. On the way and with support from a range of individuals and organisations, we staged a very successful Buffet and Dance to formally launch the 2018 show. The highlights of the evening were the presentation of the delegates to the enthusiastic audience; many of whom took the opportunity to get that promotional photo with the delegates and 2 fund raising ‘games’ hosted by Professor Andrew Ramroop OBE, CMG, Principal of the Savile Row Bespoke Academy and Founder of the celebrated FAME programme. The proceeds from these two events would go to our nominated Charity in Trinidad: K.I.N.D. We are emboldened by acknowledging the benefits that can accrue to participants in these events; best evidenced in Vanessa Ado, our first winner of the Talented Teen UK competition who has been making several appearances and promoting the competition.

members serving in various roles to make each event spectacular, popular and memorable. To the members of the Ms Trinidad and Tobago UK Committee, our Sponsors, judges and volunteers – A very hearty Thank You. Our 2018 delegates took part in the iconic Notting Hill Carnival playing Mas with costumes designed by Valarie Noriega, a Carivog Director based in Trinidad. We are thankful for our host, Elimu Mas Academy, for welcoming us on the streets of North Kensington. The band came first in judging of Mas Bands. These were the main milestones this year, made possible by our passion to embrace any challenge, not give up but, together, as one, make each year memorable by promoting the arts and culture of Trinidad and Tobago and developing and strengthening partnerships and collaborations with others of a similar vision and goals. We will aspire and achieve together. We hope you will be inspired by this to volunteer your help to make this happen even quicker. Faith and Prayer keep us together as One community, One Nation, One family. Angela Cox, Chairman of Ms Trinidad & Tobago UK & Talented Teens Competition Valerie Noreiga, Artistic Director, Ms T&T UK & Talented Teens Competition Sheanna Alleyne, Artistic Director, Caribbean & World Creative Arts Expo
