PROJECT DATE: Fall 2012 DURATION: Semester-long WORK CONTEXT: ACADEMIC GROUP PROJECT : Concept and design thinking phase was shared equally between all 3 team members Individual responsibility for digital model design, took equal parts in physical structure models Structure plans in their initial conception phase RESEARCH OUTCOMES
After conducting an extensive amount of research we concluded that the human/ earth dichotomy could be broken down into a number of phases where humans’ understanding and attitude towards earth has alternated with time. Humans and earth used to live in harmony. Simplicity and survival entitled the scenery. Later on in time humans’ attention started bit by bit to neglect Earth, exploring and seeking better living conditions through the means of invention and innovation. By time, humans’ attachment to advancement has grown and has led them to harm Earth. Our attachment to technology has harmed earth tremendously. We thus thought of it as a simple equation, translating the current situation, and how we would like to change this equation for the better of Earth. HUMANS + EARTH = TECHNOLOGY (Current situation abusing earth to foster technology) HUMANS + TECHNOLOGY = EARTH ( Aim: using the acquired technology to shift interest back to earth)

Together, the presentations start to reveal how diverse material cultures and political environments transformed a generic modernity into a specific one. Participating countries show, each in their own way, a radical splintering of modernities in a century where the homogenizing process of globalization appeared to be the master narrative…

PROJECT DATE: Winter 2014 DURATION: Semester-long WORK CONTEXT: Academic SCOPE OF WORK: Individual DESIGN CONCEPT The building is located in the place of Cairo’s old Opera House whichwas burned down in the 70s and later replaced with a 5 storey car garage; the challenge was to pay hommage to the Opera Square heritage with a strong form/monument while reinventing the idea of formal R&D by making the building blend with the urban context by removing all borders and barriers. One of the most important goals of this R&D is to provide marketing and branding opportunities for local startup companies as well as the azbakeya creative economy complex. The location of the project acts as a gateway. The challenge was to blend the R&D function with the concept of an interactive gateway in which all public is invited to visit.
