health2you Balloon Sinuplasy: A Treatment Breakthrough Chronic sinusitis can be overwhelming. Nothing seems to unlock your sinuses. Breathing is a chore and any real physical exertion leaves you struggling for breath. Safe and Effective While use of any surgical instrument involves some risk, clinical research has indi-

cated the Balloon Sinuplasty system to be safe and effective in improving symptoms of sinusitis. 2. Minimally Invasive The technology uses small, soft, ﬂexible devices that enter entirely through the nostrils. These devices gently open blocked sinus openings. In many cases, tissue or bone removal is unnecessary. 3. Minimal Bleeding Because in many instances, no tissue or bone is removed when using this technology, there may be little bleeding associated with the procedure. 4. Quick Recovery Time While recovery time varies with each patient, many people can quickly return to normal activities. 5. Does Not Limit Treatment Options This technology is an endoscopic tool and may be used with other medical therapies or sinus surgery techniques. It does not limit future treatment options if you have progressive disease. Here’s some information about risks:

In all published clinical data, no serious adverse events attributable to Balloon Sinuplasty have been reported. Some possible risks include tissue and mucosal trauma, infection or possible optic injury. Talk with your surgeon to determine what risks may apply to you. Duration of beneﬁts in patients undergoing Balloon Sinuplasty range from 10 months to in excess of two years. But remember, the procedure does not limit additional future treatment. Since Balloon Sinuplasty is an endoscopic surgery, it is generally covered by Medicare and most insurance companies. ANIMAL SAFETY Don’t leave your animal in your vehicle even for “just a minute.” Countless dogs and other animals die from heatstroke after being left in a vehicle - and these tragic deaths are entirely preventable. The Humane Society of the United States reminds people never to leave a dog, or other animal in a parked car. The temperature inside a vehicle can rise to a dangerously hot temperature within minutes even with the windows part way down. On an 85 degree day, the temperature inside a vehicle with the windows part way down can reach 102 degrees within ten minutes. In 30 minutes, the temperature can be 120 degrees. Animals can also suffer heatstroke and scorched paws from the hot metal in the back of truck beds, and from hot asphalt. A conviction of animal cruelty can result in a sentence of a $10,000 ﬁne and up to six months in jail. It is in everyone’s best interest, especially the animal’s, to leave your animals at home protected from the heat.
