TREND ALERT: WHITE DENIM!

White denim is all the rage this summer, so you can’t go wrong with a pair of great-fi tting white jeans. We love how Kristen Koon paired these classic white jeans with a pop of red and a pair of Converse for a casual daytime look.

Fashion is all about expression, and Rose Pavey is simply glowing in this set. Rose is wearing a gorgeous blue ensemble from the Lake City Humane Society Thrift Store, showing off a great color to rock this summer.

SUNSET SOAKED TONES

After spending winter in neutral colors, it can be fun to incorporate pops of color into your wardrobe. This adorable orange dress looks perfect on Dr. Kristyn “Mandy” Trotter, and the cute puppy is the perfect accessory!

MARVELOUS MAXIS

Looking for a perfect summer staple? Look no further than a fl owy, easy and breezy maxi dress! Dawn Trammel looks great in this fl oral maxi that can be worn for any activity from running errands in town to enjoying an evening by the water.

CLASSIC SOUTHERN GENTLEMAN

Dr. John Batile is modeling a classic Southern gentleman staple! You can’t go wrong with a white button down, dress pants and a classic tie. If you are searching for wardrobe basics like these, be sure to check out your local thrift store. They have tons of great options for every occasion. Oh, and the sweet puppy accompanying him down the runway is available for adoption! Thrifting is a great option for many people as it is a budget-friendly way to incorporate new styles into your closet without breaking the bank. Not only is it easy on the wallet, but it is a great way to sustainably build a wardrobe you love. By buying secondhand, you are giving new life to clothing that was otherwise being unused, keeping it out of land lls and reducing consumer waste of these items. Plus, when you shop at the Lake City Humane Society’s Thrift Store, you are supporting a worthy cause and helping to fund an organization that protects and cares for local animals seeking adoption. It truly is a win-win!

THE PERFECT LITTLE BLACK DRESS

It’s been said that every woman should have a little black dress in her closet, and we think that this one is just perfect on Cindy Speight! When searching for your own LBD, we encourage you to fi nd a silhouette that is fl attering and comfortable, but can be dressed up or dressed down depending on the occasion. We absolutely adore the clutch that Cindy chose to accessorize this dress.

ABOUT THE FIRST ANNUAL “STRUTTIN’ FOR THE PAWS” FASHION SHOW

The Lake City Humane Society is growing! Serving Lake City since 1964, this organization was founded by a group of individuals to address animal welfare issues within our community. The Lake City Humane Society seeks to provide a safe, loving and healthy environment for companion animals until they fi nd their “furever” home. The organization is committed to helping animals in need, and with the demand in our community, the shelter is working on many expansion projects and community development opportunities. The First Annual “Struttin’ For The Paws” Fashion Show was an idea that came to the Board of Directors earlier this year. The board, along with the LCHS employees and volunteers, were searching for a way to raise funds for their new facility, the James Montgomery Animal Wellness Center, and bring awareness to their cause. The fashion show idea was birthed out of a desire to incorporate all areas of the Lake City Humane Society into one event, from the adoptable shelter dogs to the veterinary services and the newly opened thrift store. Each and every item worn by the models in the show are items available for purchase at the thrift store, and every item of decoration was also brought from the thrift store. Attendees were given the opportunity to purchase table decor, glassware, clothing, accessories and so much more at the event, all while supporting a worthy cause. The evening was full of laughter and fun as the models strutted across the stage and the audience had the opportunity to interact with the dogs up for adoption. A great time was had by all and the board is very hopeful that the James Montgomery Animal Wellness Center is well on its way to being fully funded, thanks to the generous community members and friends of the Lake City Humane Society who helped pull off such a successful event. All proceeds from the event benefi ted the James Montgomery Animal Wellness Center Building Fund, which will be the new home of the LCHS clinic and adoption center. ■ Lake City Humane Society Thrift Store 1330 SW Main Blvd Lake City, FL 32025 (386) 752-1178 lakecityhumane.org/thriftstore

Something Different!

Tomatoes and herbs and other delicious ingredients.

Rustic Tomato Pie

Makes 8 Servings

INGREDIENTS:

• Dough for single-crust pie • 1-3/4 pounds tomatoes, seeded and cut into 1/2-inch slices • 1/4 cup thinly sliced green onions • 1/2 ricotta cheese • 1/2 cup shredded pepper-jack cheese • 2 tablespoons fresh basil • 1/4 teaspoon salt • 1/4 teaspoon pepper • 2 bacon strips, cooked and crumbled • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese DIRECTIONS: The tomatoes need to be prepped before the bake. After slicing them into ¼” rounds, they need to be salted and drained for about 15-30 minutes. They might not release a ton of liquid at this point, but after they’ve been salted, they should be patted dry with a paper towel to trap any remaining excess moisture. This step is essential to make sure your galette doesn’t end up a soggy mess. Preheat oven to 400°. On a lightly fl oured surface, roll dough to a 1/8-in.-thick circle; transfer to a 9-in. pie plate. Trim crust to 1/2 in. beyond rim of plate. Place half of the tomatoes and half of the onions in crust. Combine ricotta and pepper-jack cheeses, basil, salt and pepper; spread over tomatoes. Top with remaining onions and tomatoes. Fold crust edge over fi lling, pleating as you go and leaving an 8-in. opening in the center. Sprinkle with bacon and Parmesan cheese. Bake on a lower oven rack until crust is golden and fi lling is bubbly, 30-35 minutes. Let stand 10 minutes before cutting. If desired, sprinkle with additional basil.

HOMEMADE DOUGH: Combine 1-1/4 cups all-purpose fl our and 1/4 tsp. salt; cut in 1/2 cup cold butter until crumbly. Gradually add 3-5 Tbsp. ice water, tossing with a fork until dough holds together when pressed. Shape into a disk; wrap and refrigerate 1 hour.
