Iranian Convert in Need of Dentures Request from Hicham Chehab, PABLO Missionary to Chicago Arabic Community Dear Friends, We came back from a visit to a Lutheran dentist, Dr. John Dano, who offered his free services to Shaker, a brother from Iran who was baptized on Easter. Shaker's teeth, or what is left of them are all infected and need to be removed. While Dr. Dano is willing to work for free, there is still the lab cost for doing Shaker's dentures (upper and lower). All of Shaker's teeth have to be extracted except two lower ones that would serve as lower denture holders. The cost for Shaker's dentures will be around $750. So we need to raise $ 750 to take care of our brother who has no insurance. Thank you! Hicham Chehab Donate to the Denture Fund.

Haiti Mission - Eye Glass Clinic and VBS The Mission Trip scheduled for March 11-20, 2010 will be doing an EYE GLASS CLINIC as well as a VBS Pastor Isaac requested this clinic several years ago because of the many people in Jeremie that need corrective lenses and cannot afford them. We are not only going to serve the people of Jeremie but would like to bring the Clinic to at least 3 of the mountain villages in Pastor's district. We are asking several congregations that have supported the Lutheran Church in Haiti in the past to be part of this Mission Trip by collecting used eye glasses for the clinic. We hope to collect at least 500 pairs of glasses as well as "readers", sun glasses and glass cases. Please help Haiti by participating in this easy but meaningful project. Also: in addition to the needed glasses, there are a few spots left for people to travel to Haiti and be a part of the mission effort. Any optometrists willing to help read these eye glasses and label them before we go would be greatly appreciated. Call Sue Gross at (708) 389-6676 or email suelynn144@aol.com if you are willing to help so that we can schedule a pick up by Dec 1.
Cancer Ministry has Urgent Need! $50,000 needed by September 17th Request from Phil Zielke, President of Phil's Friends Christian Cancer Foundation The mission of Phil's Friends is to provide Christ-centered support and hope to those affected by cancer. We deliver care packages to cancer patients and follow up with prayer, weekly cards, personal visits, emails, phone calls, and much more. Why? Everyone knows someone affected by cancer and they need hope and support. We do this to show the love of Christ. No one has hope without Christ. No one! As Christians it is our job to share.

This year we are on pace to deliver around 1000 care packages. We currently follow up with around 100 patients on a weekly basis. Our ministry is in dire need of full time leadership. God has opened so many doors and hundreds of volunteer hearts who want to help. The Executive Board of Phil's Friends has set a goal to raise $50,000 by September 17th to hire full time leadership. I prayerfully ask for your support today. To donate for this one-time project please CLICK HERE To find out more about Phil's friends, read this PDF or go to www.philsfriends.org
Support for Mission Trip to Kenya Request from Peter Imlah, Youth and Family Minister, First Lutheran Church, Charlotte, Michigan Dear Friends in Christ, I have been given an opportunity to join with Salem Lutheran Church, Tomball, Texas (salem4u.com) on a mission trip to provide a prescription eyeglass clinic to people in need in Kenya, Africa, November 12-22 2009. I am really excited about this opportunity to minister in Kenya. During Salem's last trip to Kenya in May they were able to serve and share the Gospel Message with more than 15,000 people at 5 different locations! The November trip will cost me just over $3,500 (not including passport and shots), with the biggest portion coming from airfare. This is a big number, but I believe our God is bigger than that hurdle. Any support would be appreciated. I would love the opportunity to partner with you in this endeavor. Due to the costs of rising airfare I needed to reserve my tickets by August 12th. The remaining funds are due September 4th. Would you prayerfully consider and respond to my request by Sunday, August 30th? If I have 50-100 people partner with me I would get where I need to be quite easily (many hands make for light work). If you have any questions or comments please don't hesitate to email me at pimlah@acd.net I believe that the Lord speaks to us through our brothers and sisters in Christ and I would appreciate your input. Ethiopian Child Needs Specialized Medical Operation Request from Rev. Tilahun Mendedo, Faith Lutheran Church, Mobile, Alabama Tamirat Berhanu is a wonderful child of Christ and one of the children in Master Builders Center project. He is 10 years old but already in 7th grade. He lost his dad to HIV and his mom has no income at all except the $25 she receives from MBC every month. She uses this fund to help Tamirat and other siblings in the house. Tamirat needs to have a pediatric cystoscopy, but there are not any doctors in Ethiopia that can perform this procedure. We are looking for help in obtaining funds so that he can be treated in South Africa or Israel. Another option is for an urologist in the US to be able to perform this operation. Please donate here to the Ethiopian Child Medical Fund

LCC Offers Lutheran Early Response Team Training Tim Hetzner to Lead Training Session In order to better manage these volunteers and resources, FEMA is currently finalizing a guideline on credentialing volunteers for large-scale disasters. The federal guidelines are expected to indicate that volunteers responding to a disaster should be trained and certified. Over a year ago LCC began plans to establish and provide training for Lutheran Early Response Teams (LERT) through out our district. Should a disaster strike these teams would be put on call and may be asked to deploy in 72 hours or less to the disaster site. This training will prepare team member for credentialing and will focus on the safety, work, and ministry of Lutherans as Early Responders. The training is scheduled for:

Cars Needed for Immigrant Families Request from POBLO Missionary, Hicham Chehab Dear Friends, We have several Iraqi refugee families that we are working with who need reliable transportation. One is a family of four, also a family of six and a single mother. They have arrived here with very little and need transportation in order to work. The donation of a car would be a tremendous blessing and witness to these families. Please contact LCC at 866-455-6466 or email LCC@LutheranChurchCharities.org if you have a vehicle to donate
Family in need of Clothing LCC has received a request for clothing for a single mother and her two daughters aged 10 and 12. The 12 year old is a size 15 junior and the 10 year old is a girl's size 10 (pants are a size 10 slim) The mother is undergoing weight loss surgery. She is currently a 5X. This family has faced many difficulties lately and the girls are in need of school clothes. If you have clothing to donate it can be dropped off at the LCC offices in Addison. Please call 866-455-6466 or email LCC@LutheranChurchCharities.org if you have clothing for this family.
Help a Lutheran Teacher Get the Hearing Aid She Needs Request from Pastor Brian Truog, Cross Lutheran Church, Yorkville We are working with a member who needs assistance for a specialized hearing aid. She has Meniere's disease and the hearing aid costs $3,500. Due to a lengthy recovery after a car accident in October, 2008 and the down turn of the economy she lost her job as a Lutheran school teacher and her husband also lost his job. Because of their unemployment they lost their Indiana apartment and have moved back to the Yorkville area to live with her parents. Because she was let go when the Lutheran School she worked for closed, she no longer has disability insurance to cover the cost. Cross is helping the family but any donations to help pay for her hearing aid would be a great blessing. Click here to donate!
LCC and LWML Need Your Help to Ship Supplies to the Lutheran Church in Ghana The generous support of so many churches and individuals have left us with a new (albeit a good) problem: we have to ship the donated outreach supplies to Ghana. Deaconess Hannah BartPlange returned to Ghana last week with two overstuffed suitcases filled with donations - communion ware, hymnals, catechisms, clothes. However, the items far exceeded what she could take with her. Rebekah Litfin, President of Lutheran Women in Mission (LWML) at St. John Lutheran in Wheaton has been working with shipping companies to determine how to get the remaining donations to Ghana, in the best and most cost effective manner possible.
She has found a service that will ship a special container (about the size of an oil drum) for a flat rate around $200 regardless of the weight of the contents. We estimate, however, that we have enough to fill multiple containers and hope to be able to fill more in the months ahead. Please help us to offset the shipping costs of the wonderful outreach and worship materials that were donated to the growing Lutheran community in Ghana! Family of Three in Need of Housing Request from Pastor Bill Cate, St. Peter Lutheran Church, Schaumburg A family of three is in need of housing. The mother has been the primary care giver for their young daughter, who was born with a cleft palate. The father has lost his last three positions because his employers experienced financial problems. They relocated from Florida where they had been living with family when the husband received a job in this area last year. Unfortunately, he is unemployed again due to the economy. They would prefer to stay in the Chicago area because their daughter is going through speech therapy after surgery to correct her cleft palate through the generosity of Shriners Hospital. With no income in the foreseeable future they are unable to pay rent or a mortgage and need a place to live. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you can help this family find housing please contact LCC at 866-455-6466 or email LCC@LutheranChurchCharities.org .
Single Woman Needs Housing Request from Pastor Bill Cate, St. Peter Lutheran Church, Schaumburg A woman in our congregation with unique circumstances is in need of housing. Her husband has filed for divorce and she is unable to work a steady job due to chronic migraine headaches and other medical problems. She is on permanent disability, but without her husband's income she cannot afford her own place to live. There is a complication in searching for a roommate: she owns three dogs that she wants to keep, so she is in need of someone who loves animals and would be willing to share living space. Please contact Pastor Bill Cate at St. Peter Lutheran Church Schaumburg if you can help. 847-885-3350. .

Welcome to an African adventure - right here in Northern Illinois! Hannah's temperature skyrocketed to 104 degrees last Thursday evening. Tim's Pick of the Week Mothers Search For Meaning by Roberta Bandy Dr. Dale Meyer, President of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis: "You pick up "A Mother's Search for Meaning" assuming it's about raising a special needs child but immediately discover this book has been written about you. It's about the Spirit of God surprising us with love in situations the world judges hopeless. Roberta Bandy has put me in touch with a reality too easily pushed aside, the Father's wise love, and I know it can do the same for you." Dr. James Lamb, President of Lutherans for Life: "Roberta Bandy captures and articulates well the truth that God not only blesses, He defines what blessings are. Rob Bandy was a blessing to all who knew him. He continues to be a blessing in the pages of this book. His story of love and hope will be a blessing to you." Walter Wangerin wrote: "From beginning to end this book contains a lifetime of love. Rob's physical condition leads a whole family into sweet service, and all are better for it. Read through to Rob's departure, so moving, so fruitful, so filled with joy." Sandy Rios, president of Culture Watch and host of "Sandy Rios Live" on WYLL-AM 1160 Chicago wrote: "The Bandy's courage, love and cheerfulness in caring for their Rob was a great source of encouragement for me in my own difficult days of parenting a severely disabled child. I'm confident that this excellent telling of their story will do the same for thousands more."
