Request for Pastor John Brazeal, Lutheran Church of Christ The King, Chicago Pastor Brazeal stopped at a gas station to fill his van. While standing at the window to pay he watched a car pull in, try to make a tight turn and then plow into his van. Three teenage girls jumped out of the car and ran away. Pastor Brazeal's van had been totaled by girls out joy riding in a stolen car! If he had been pumping gas at the time he would have been seriously injured and possibly killed. Because the car was stolen at the time of the accident there is no insurance settlement. But God provides. LCC has received the donation of a van from a member family of Cross Lutheran in Yorkville. The van is in good shape but needs some work on the brakes and a few other repairs. The cost of the needed repairs is $650.00. Because there is no insurance money available for Pastor Brazeal please consider a donation to put him back on the road serving his congregation and community. Click here to donate

Prince of Peace and PATH are working with a single mother who has recently fallen on hard times and become homeless. She lost her job, ultimately could not afford rent and was evicted. She has also lost her car. All of her saving and 401K monies from her former job have been spent on temporary housing. Without additional assistance she and her son will be homeless again within a week. She and her son need a place to live until a more permanent solution is found. Anywhere between Palatine and Vernon Hills is ideal. Her son is an advanced straight A student at Vernon Hills High School but may be transferring depending on assistance. She is also in need of monetary assistance to help them get into permanent housing as she continues to look for work. She and her son are attending services at Prince of Peace and both Prince of Peace and PATH are offering her all the assistance they can. Any additional financial or housing assistance will be a blessing to this family as they struggle to put their lives back together. If you know of temporary housing for this family please contact LCC at 866-455-6466 or email LCC@LutheranChurchCharities.org Click here to donate

Minister to the Missionaries in West Africa Northern Illinois District President Dan Gilbert and his wife Jan have been asked to lead a retreat for the LCMS and Lutheran Bible Translators missionaries in West Africa this coming March. God willing, they will do six days of worship, Bible study, and counseling with the missionaries and their families at a Christian retreat center in Lamina, Ghana, a few hours west of the capital city of Accra. President Gilbert also hopes to meet with President Paul Fynn of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ghana while there. The cost for their airfare needs to be covered. Round trip for the two of them comes to a total of $2,757, and they request that brothers and sisters prayerfully consider an offering to help cover this cost. Click here to contribute

Single Mother of Five in Need of Reliable Transportation Request from Linda Arnold, Director of Care Ministries, Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisle, Illinois We have a single mother of five in need of a vehicle. She lost her job two months ago. She currently is driving an old van with 140K miles on it. We've helped her by repairing some problems that prevented it from passing emissions testing but she really needs something more reliable rather than continuing to spend money to fix what she has. She also needs to be able to transport six people. If she could receive a donated van that would be such a blessing for this family. Please contact LCC at 866-455-6466 or email LCC@LutheranChurchCharities.org if you have a vehicle to donate.

LCC K-9 Crisis Response to Ft. Hood Shootings Lutheran Church Charities K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry Responds LCC Sends initial check for $3,000 to Grace Lutheran Church, Kileen, Texas LCC will be working through Grace Lutheran Church in Kileen Texas, which has an ongoing ministry to our Armed Services Families. Please join us in praying for everyone touched by the shooting incident at Fort Hood Army Base on Thursday, November 5, 2009. We are currently monitoring the situation closely to determine how we can best respond with our LCC Parish K-9 Comfort Dog teams. At this point, our tentative plan is to put a team together that will respond as the aftermath sets in. Your financial and prayer support is necessary if we are to make this response a reality. Funds are needed for travel and lodging of the handlers and LCC Comfort Dogs and to support the Armed Services families. Supplemental Funding is provided through the Texas Regions® program of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. They will match $1 for every $3 raised, up to $1,500. Please consider helping us to bring the Mercy and Compassion of Jesus Christ to those in our armed services affected by this tragedy. Dollar per Dollar your donation will go to this response.

Life Saving Education for Orphans in Kenya-$6,000 Needed Update from Jacob Fraher, concerning the work of Pastor Dennis Meeker in the slums of Kenya A few years ago, LCMS Pastor Dennis Meeker and his wife, Deaconess Lorna (serving Springs of Life Lutheran Church Kibera, Kenya), started taking in orphans who had no one to provide for them. The conditions some of these children were living in were absolutely horrifying. They were relocated to the Meeker's home and given the love and care every child deserves. Below is the latest update from Pastor Meeker. Greetings from Nairobi, Kenya! My wife, Deaconess Lorna, and I are serving in an area known as Kibera, the largest slum in Africa. It is estimated that over 1,000,000 people are packed in a 1.5 square mile area, most of them living on less than $1 per day. Scattered throughout this impoverished area are thousands of orphans. We have started a ministry named Compassionate Social Care Ministries. CSCM is our way of getting support to the children we find in desperate need. If a child's parents die and there is no one to take the child in, he or she is left to the streets or alone in what they once knew to be their home. Children drop out of school because no one is willing or able to pay their school fees and struggle to feed themselves or their siblings. CSCM pays the school fees of over 100 children who otherwise wouldn't be in school. The economic recession has hit everyone hard and we are certainly feeling it over here in Kenya. In January 2010, school fees are due, and, by the looks of the situation, my wife and I will have a crisis on our hands. I cannot bear the thought of withdrawing these children who have no one else to provide for them from school enrollment because we are not able to pay their school fees. We are sending out this emergency appeal in an effort to allow all our children to remain in school. If a handful of churches took up an offering, we would get that much closer to meeting our $6,000 goal by January. Also, individuals have the opportunity to pay the school fees of specific children ($35 a month). We cannot do this alone! Please read more about our ministry at our website www.cscmkenya.org. We continue to serve and love by the cross of Christ. Rev. Dennis Meeker Click here to donate

Can You Help LCC Find Free Warehouse Storage For Our Ongoing Ministry? In order to be able to respond to disasters swiftly, it is imperative that we operate in a state of preparedness. To be able to do that, it is important that we have our vehicles and equipment stored in a location and environment that will enable us to move quickly. For the other parts of our ministry, we need: â—?

Work space for our volunteers that is a

climate controlled environment Has short term storage space for donations till they can be picked up in a few days. A space large enough where we can drive in and store our Disaster response RV and trailers for immediate DEPLOYMENT. A cargo bay allowing us the ability to load semi-trailers would also be nice and useful feature.

If you know of someone who owns or has available warehouse space that isn't being currently used, please contact Tim Hetzner at Lutheran Church Charities. We understand that use of the warehouse would not be permanent and that the owner would have the full rights to regain their facility if it was to be rented or sold. LCC would carry the insurance on the space we are using. Please contact Tim Hetzner, President of LCC at (866) 455-6466 if you know of someone. This would be a tremendous Help in meeting the increased demands LCC faces. Help us to continue to - by the Grace of God - Make A Difference in People's Lives and in God's Kingdom!
