Update from Haiti: Thank You - Your Donations Continue to Feed Children
LCC Received the following update from Susan Gross, Haitian Lutheran Mission Project, Christ Lutheran Church, Orland Park: Dear Friends of Pastor Isaac I wanted to let you know that we just got an email from the director of the Feeding Program that was started in the Village Schools in Pastor Isaac's Jeremie District. He wanted to make sure we thanked all those who helped get this feeding program started and all those who sponsor the program on a regular schedule. The Village people are so thankful that they have shared some of their stories with the director who has passed them on to us. In the Village of Beaudouin a boy named Nikelson Jules left for school one morning which was a 10 kilometer walk, at 5PM the teachers were concerned that the boy never arrived at the school so some village people went looking for him. They found him lying in the dirt between his home and the school too weak to go any further. They did not say how long it had been since the boy had eaten but the director said the boy's mother is no longer worried about sending him to school because she knows he will be fed now. In the Village of Moron a similar situation took place with a child named Elizaire Fenel. His school was 6 kilometers away but he only made it part way when someone found him unconscious and took him to his Godfathers home 4 kilometers from home. His family too is grateful that when he returns to school he will be fed a nutritious meal once a day. Sue Gross stopped by the LCC office to As plans for our mission trip to Haiti progress we are excited pick up a check for that we will be able to visit these Village Schools and see Food for Haiti for ourselves the change that Trinity Hope has brought to these children.

Help Needed to Prepare Donated Eye Glasses for Haiti Mission Trip Request from Susan Gross, Haitian Lutheran Mission Project, Christ Lutheran Church, Orland Park and Tim Hetzner, President, Lutheran Church Charities HELP!!! First we would like to thank all who are making it possible to bring eye glasses to Haiti as part of our mission trip in March 2010. We have a favor to ask. If anyone knows of an EYE GLASS PROFESSIONSAL/OPTOMOTRIST who will help us get the prescriptions read on the glasses we have collected we would greatly appreciate the help.
We will be washing and sorting these eye glasses after the first of the year ourselves but we need people who are able to read the glasses and label them before we can pack them for the trip. If several people volunteer it can be done without asking too much of just a few. Please consider asking your local eye doctor to help us with this. If you are able to help read the prescriptions of these glasses please call LCC at 866455-6466 or email LCC@LutheranChurchCharities.org
Van Needed for Faith, Stickney Request from Pastor Guillermo Jerez, Faith Lutheran Church, Stickney, Illinois Last Friday, the transmission on the van that we use for church transportation went out. The cost of repairing the van is more than it is worth. A van is important to the congregation as it allows us to pick up families for church. It is also the transportation that is used to reach out in our community, pick up donations and volunteer for service projects. Our congregation is a poor Hispanic congregation and the van we had was God's blessing to us through LCC which we appreciate with all our hearts. With optimism to keep going and proclaiming the love of God, we need your help to find a replacement van. If you have a van to donate please contact LCC at 866-455-6466 or email LCC@LutheranChurchCharities.org
Assistance Needed for Funeral Expenses For Church Worker's Family Request from Pastor David Mumm, Concordia Lutheran Church, Machesney Park, Illinois My Administrative Assistant and her family are mourning the death of her uncle. He died in Rockford on Saturday afternoon. The family has no resources to cover the $1,300.00 funeral expense. As you can imagine this is very difficult on the entire family. Any help that can be found would be appreciated. Click here to donate
Homeless Mother and Daughter in Need of Housing Request from Pastor David Barber and Thomas Amato, Chairman Board of Elders, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Glenview, Illinois Tina and Carla (names intentionally changed) want to thank all of the donors for contributing money for food and gas gift cards for the month of November and early December as well as $900 required to replace the tires on their car. The tires were replaced just as the Chicago area's first snow fell. However, as the Christmas holiday approaches, Tina and Clara have still not found housing and remain in their car. If anyone in the north or northwest suburbs of Chicago has housing available that they wish to share with Tina, her mom and her small dog, please contact Tom Amato at Immanuel Lutheran Church (847.724-1034). Shorter-term, if someone would be willing to share part of their Christmas day by inviting Tina and Carla into their home for a few hours (while their dog Lucky remains in the car), they would greatly appreciate it. Again, any assistance for Tina and Carla would be a tremendous blessing to them as they put their lives back together, especially as the colder weather has arrived.. Click here to donate

Comfort Dog Ministry Update Breakfast with Santa Kiwanis LCC Comfort Dogs Prince and Fuerst were very busy last Saturday at the Holy Cross, Portage Indiana, Annual Breakfast with Santa. The Breakfast is offered free to the community and was well attended by families that do not have a church home. The kids sang Christmas songs, made crafts, decorated cookies, visited with the dogs and of course met Santa, who shared with them the true Christmas story. Santa also gave the children a book with the story of Jesus birth to take home.

Single Mother of Two Needs $1,500 to Avoid Eviction Request from Pastor Kenety Gee, Chatham Fields Lutheran Church, Chicago Unemployment has finally hit this family. She is a single mother of two beautiful young school age girls. She's hard working and has actively been in search of employment since she lost her job over six months ago. Through savings and temporary jobs here and there and help from family members she has been able to keep a roof over her family's head. But she's fallen behind with her rent and is in urgent need of $1,500. She wants to keep her children stable and would absolutely love to avoid eviction because she knows that will affect how the children perform in school. Could you please put out a word on your widely read weekly publication to see if there are people out there who are willing to help keep this mother and her children stable by keeping the roof over their head. Family of Four Needs Van- Father Disabled Request from Pastor Brian Truog, Cross Lutheran Church, Yorkville, Illinois Through our community outreach program we have come in contact with a family in need from Plano, Illinois. This is a family of four. The husband is disabled due to cerebral palsy and unable to work. The wife works part-time in a doctors' office. Their eldest son goes to Wabaunsee Community College and the youngest son is in elementary school. The vehicle they have now is in poor condition probably unsafe to drive - and has no heat. A vehicle is important to them because every few months they have to drive to the hospital in Chicago for the husband's doctors appointments. The wife would like to go to school and be certified in the medical field, but is unable to afford that. It would probably be best for them to have a van, but I don't think that is absolutely necessary. The donation of a reliable van would be such a blessing to this family. Please contact LCC at 866-455-6466 or email LCC@LutheranChurchCharities.org if you have a vehicle to donate.
Church Organist Needs Car Request from Vacancy Pastor Jim Bauman, Faith Lutheran Church, Carpentersville, Illinois The organist of Faith, Carpentersville, who is a single mother with a daughter that has ongoing and severe medical problems, is in need of an automobile. Her present car is in need of repairs too expensive to consider. At present the organist is unable to come to church for services because of lack of transportation. Playing at our church is an important part of a very small total income. Please contact LCC at 866-455-6466 or email LCC@LutheranChurchCharities.org if you have a vehicle to donate.
Single Mother of Two Needs Short Term Rent Assistance Request from Pastor James Zimmerman, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Addison, Illinois We are working with a single mother and her two children. They are members of St. Paul. She is recently unemployed and needs $1,200.00 of rent assistance as a bridge until her public aid begins. Any assistance for this family will be greatly appreciated. Click here to donate
Homeless Single Mother and Son Need Assistance Request from Pastor Scott Christenson, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Palatine, Illinois and PATH (Palatine Assisting Through Hope) Prince of Peace and PATH are working with a single mother who has recently fallen on hard times and become homeless. She lost her job, ultimately could not afford rent and was evicted. She has also lost her car. All of her saving and 401K monies from her former job have been spent on temporary housing. Without additional assistance she and her son will be homeless again within a week. She and her son need a place to live until a more permanent solution is found. Anywhere between Palatine and Vernon Hills is ideal. Her son is an advanced straight A student at Vernon Hills High School but may be transferring depending on assistance. She is also in need of monetary assistance to help them get into permanent housing as she continues to look for work. She and her son are attending services at Prince of Peace and both Prince of Peace and PATH are offering her all the assistance they can. Any additional financial or housing assistance will be a blessing to this family as they struggle to put their lives back together. If you know of temporary housing for this family please contact LCC at 866-455-6466 or email LCC@LutheranChurchCharities.org Click here to donate
Minister to the Missionaries in West Africa Northern Illinois District President Dan Gilbert and his wife Jan have been asked to lead a retreat for the LCMS and Lutheran Bible Translators missionaries in West Africa this coming March. God willing, they will do six days of worship, Bible study, and counseling with the missionaries and their families at a Christian retreat center in Lamina, Ghana, a few hours west of the capital city of Accra. President Gilbert also hopes to meet with President Paul Fynn of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ghana while there. The cost for their airfare needs to be covered. Round trip for the two of them comes to a total of $2,757, and they request that brothers and sisters prayerfully consider an offering to help cover this cost. Click here to contribute
Single Mother of Five in Need of Reliable Transportation Request from Linda Arnold, Director of Care Ministries, Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisle, Illinois We have a single mother of five in need of a vehicle. She lost her job two months ago. She currently is driving an old van with 140K miles on it. We've helped her by repairing some problems that prevented it from passing emissions testing but she really needs something more reliable rather than continuing to spend money to fix what she has. She also needs to be able to transport six people. If she could receive a donated van that would be such a blessing for this family. Please contact LCC at 866-455-6466 or email LCC@LutheranChurchCharities.org if you have a vehicle to donate.

Can You Help LCC Find Free Warehouse Storage For Our Ongoing Ministry? In order to be able to respond to disasters swiftly, it is imperative that we operate in a state of preparedness. To be able to do that, it is important that we have our vehicles and equipment stored in a location and environment that will enable us to move quickly. For the other parts of our ministry, we need: Work space for our volunteers that is a climate controlled environment Has short term storage space for donations till they can be picked up in a few days. A space large enough where we can drive in and store our Disaster response RV and trailers for immediate DEPLOYMENT. A cargo bay allowing us the ability to load semi-trailers would also be nice and useful feature. If you know of someone who owns or has available warehouse space that isn't being currently used, please contact Tim Hetzner at Lutheran Church Charities. We understand that use of the warehouse would not be permanent and that the owner would have the full rights to regain their facility if it was to be rented or sold. LCC would carry the insurance on the space we are using. Please contact Tim Hetzner, President of LCC at (866) 455-6466 if you know of someone. This would be a tremendous Help in meeting the increased demands LCC faces. Help us to continue to - by the Grace of God - Make A Difference in People's Lives and in God's Kingdom!
