Technology - A Tool for Ministry and God's Kingdom
Lutheran Church Charities Announces Our First Technology Conference/Roundtable - FREE Thursday, October 21 11:00am - 1:00pm Seegers Center, Addison, Illinois Ever wonder what would have happened if the Apostle Paul had available to him the technology we have today? The Letters to the churches would have been broadcast emailed - and just imagine the "reply all" responses! The Apostle could have had a blog where doctrinal concerns and questions were debated. Who knows, the Apostle Paul may even have written a daily "Paul's Theological Lesson for the Day". Well, maybe it's better that he didn't have the option, but the use of technology is here to stay - the good, the bad, and sad to say, the ugly.

Looking for Ways to Share the Mercy and Compassion of Christ to Those in Your Church and Community? We are in hard economic times. "Times are terrible" many say. But just think what a blessing God has given us to share the Mercy and Compassion of Christ! The door is wide open for the Church to be the Church. Jesus showed us by his life that we are to be the church that "Does Feet" (John 13). People say that they would "do" evangelism, they would reach out to people in need, but their church simply does not have the money right now to do it, things are tight! Dear Christian brothers and sisters, it doesn't take money to touch those in need and pain - it takes you and your willingness to follow Jesus' example. If you would like a staff member of LCC to come out and share ways for you and your church to reach your members and community with the Mercy and Compassion of Christ - without money - contact us at 866-455-6466 or email LCC@LutheranChurchCharities.org We would be more than happy to come and work with you! By the way, we can even bring our K-9 Parish Comfort Dogs with us. This also will NOT cost you!

Several Immediate Ways to Help Our Churches in Haiti Motorcycles Needed to Help Pastors in Haiti Spread the Gospel When Tim Hetzner traveled to Haiti in March 2010 he purchased several motorcycles for the pastors to use for transportation. Because of the terrible condition of the roads, motorcycles are the most efficient means of transportation for many of the pastors who must travel many miles between the different churches that they serve and to get to their members. More motorcycles are desperately needed. A new motorcycle costs $1,000 and is an important tool that helps the pastors to minister to their members and Laypastor Gabriel Jules spread the Gospel throughout Haiti. Pictured are two pastors that have been helped because of your support. Click here to donate

September 24-Severe Storm Hit Port-Au-Prince, Haiti Tent Cities Affected- Shoes Needed for the Children A short but severe storm with high winds and heavy rains hit Haiti's earthquake-devastated capital, Port-Au-Prince. No warnings were issued because the storm Friday afternoon was not predicted. The high winds destroyed tents and the rain has turned hillsides into mudslides. Because of your generous donations LCC has been able to provide thousands of children with shoes to protect them from mud-related parasites and diseases. This new storm means that additional shoes are needed for the children in the affected Tent Cities. Click here for story on CNN.com
Please contribute now if you are moved to help! Thank you for your compassion for these children. Last month more shoes were distributed in tent cities in Jacmel and Leogane (below). Thank you for your continual support to help all these children and for showing them Mercy and Compassion. Click here to view more photos Click here to read the original appeal

Malaria Initiative `Malaria Initiative' is a non-profit corporation formed by Susan Busse M.D., Thomas Hesselink M.D., and John Peterson, to bring spiritual and medical treatment to those suffering from Malaria, working with Lutheran Church Charities. A treatment of acidified sodium chlorite at a cost of less than $00.01 USD. per dose has proven to be very promising in preliminary laboratory and field trials. We have been working in Uganda, Sierria Leone, Ethiopia, and Ghana to improve our working relationship in these countries to further the treatment of Malaria using this particular treatment. Our goal is to spread the Message of Christ and bring a useful and inexpensive treatment for Malaria; Malaria being the number one infectious killer world wide. We are currently working at gathering more scientific data from sites that have Malaria patients, to track them along with their progress, and to document the results of the treatments so we can publish in medical journals. We are supporting a PhD. student doing thesis work at Western Michigan University on this promising treatment. Malaria Initiative is looking to get help financing the above stated goals so they may travel to train personnel and fulfill all our commitments. The three principals have taken no payment for their services, all have volunteered their services and funded much of the costs out of pocket along with donations from generous donors. Visit their web site: www.malaria01.org or E-mail: malaria01@yahoo.com Click here to view a video about this project Click here to donate

Thrivent Choice - Watch Your Mailbox - and Help Support Making A Difference Through Lutheran Church Charities Thrivent Choice is the new charitable grant program through which Thrivent Financial for Lutherans members are able to direct Thrivent charitable funds. Eligible members are designated Choice Dollars, based on insurance premiums, contract values, and Thrivent Financial volunteer leadership which are directed by the member to Lutheran organizations. If you are an eligible member, watch your mailbox in August for program details from Thrivent to know how to designate your Choice Dollars either online or by using a toll-free phone service. A direct gift from Thrivent Choice is the replacement for Thrivent's past matching gift programs. So, when choosing a recipient for your Choice Dollars, please remember Lutheran Church Charities as a beneficiary. You can donate your choice dollars to Lutheran Church Charities in two ways, by going to www.thrivent.comand then go to Thrivent Choice Dollars and following the directions to give on line or by calling 1-800-847-4836. Tim's Pick of the Week When The Game Is Over It All Goes Back In The Box By John Ortberg A promotion. A new house. The rewards of winning at lifes game can be thrilling. But eventually everything goes back into the box, and what ultimately matters is whether weve played according to Gods rules. John Ortberg uses popular games and his trademark gift of storytelling to help us live our lives for the things that really count.
LCC Emergency Assistance Fund LCC gets requests daily concerning people who need assistance, and it is increasing because of the current economic times we are living in. LCC works through our churches to provide assistance by making the need known - and dollar per dollar we give the money to a church to help the family or individual. However, we receive some requests that are emergencies, and money is needed that day or the next day and we can't always get the need out in our weekly email newsletter first. Would you consider making a gift to our LCC Emergency Assistance fund so that when these emergency needs occur we can help (through our churches) quicker? This is an important way for the Body of Christ to share the Mercy and Compassion and Proclamation of Christ. To contribute please click here Thank you for continuing to Make A Difference! Tim Hetzner
