PLEASE KEEP HAITI IN YOUR PRAYERS AS HURRICANE TOMAS APPROACHES! We know that God controls the weather (as He does all of nature). We are watching what Hurricane Tomas is doing as it heads for Haiti. This Hurricane could be disastrous to Haiti, especially right now with 1.2 million people living in tents that CANNOT withstand the winds and rain. LCC is in daily contact with our people in Haiti to do what we can to prepare for Tomas. We know there will be needs, just not sure to what extent! Rev. Glenn Merritt from LCMS Human Care and World Relief is there right now. Please keep them in your prayers and please consider supporting the Relief Efforts taking place now and more expected in a few days!

Inner City Tabor Lutheran Church Needs Children's Tables and Chairs by THIS SATURDAY. Can your church help? Tabor's Saturday Camp starts this coming Saturday. This program is an arm of the new Tabor/Urban Ministry's alliance. Deaconesses-in-training Sarah Gensch and Lynn Kelly (pictured), and Pastor-in-training Frederic Delany have joined Tabor and are spearheading the Saturday Camp. Last Saturday, Lynn and Sarah were out in front of Tabor registering students. It was so exciting. Many families stopped and talked. Many registered. However they have a big problem, they are starting this week and have no children's tables and chairs. To start their Saturday Camp they need a donation - three or more children's tables and 20 or more children's chairs. Can you help them? Please call 773-771-6296 and they will come and pick them up.

Remembering the Life and Service of LCC K-9 Parish Comfort Dog Fuerst On Sunday, October 24, the Holy Cross, Portage, Indiana congregation gathered to thank God for the work that He allowed their Comfort Dog, Fuerst, to do in their church and community. Fuerst was placed at Holy Cross in February of 2009. After a year-and-a-half of service, Fuerst became ill and passed away on October 12, 2010. Following his passing, it was determined by the School of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue University that he had a fungal infection known as blastomycosis. "Fuerst was a gift from God for our congregation and community," says Tim Engel, pastor of Holy Cross. "He was my partner whose presence allowed me and his other handlers to share Christ's love and compassion with folks in and around Portage." Faith Lutheran Church, Mobile, Alabama

One of the Katrina Churches the NID was assigned to help when Katrina hit five years ago. Help them reach those in need in their community this Thanksgiving. Again this year the Evangelism Committee at Faith Lutheran Church, Mobile is attempting to serve the needs within our own congregation and the local community, especially at this time of the year and at this critical time in our economy. We are so thankful for your past support for this project and give all the Glory and Praise to God. We are in the process of soliciting funding for our annual Thanksgiving Baskets for the needy and are seeking your help. We are planning to construct six baskets and anticipate the cost of each basket to be about $50.00. To God be the Glory that this project will be a success again this year and will bless each recipient of these baskets with a meal for Thanksgiving that they otherwise may not have had. We do all of this in the name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We thank God for any considerations that you may give to this request and may God continue to bless you and your effort to provide assistance to all of the needed. Family In Need of $3,900 for Funeral Expenses

Request from Pastor Timothy Speckman, Redeemer Lutheran Church, Flint, Michigan I recently conducted a funeral for a lifelong Lutheran; her family is devastated both emotionally and financially. Patricia was taken home following a two-year battle with cancer and her family is unable to pay the remainder of the funeral expenses. Initially, the family was turned down by a funeral home and another facility accepted the responsibility even though they were uncertain of receiving payment. The outstanding balance is $3900. The Flint Area's unemployment rate is one of the worst in the nation and the members of her family are struggling with job loss and are unable to contribute. Any assistance that you could offer the least of these would be a tremendous blessing to this family and a well deserved thanks to the funeral home. Click here to donate

Help Needed to Read Prescriptions of Eye Glasses for Haiti Clinic The Haitian Lutheran Mission Project will be traveling to Haiti once again in March 2011. We found the need for eye glasses so great in the Jeremie area that we decided to repeat the clinic in 2011. We are looking for eye glass professionals that are willing to read the prescriptions of the glasses we have collected. Please contact LCC at 866-455-6466 or email LCC@LutheranChurchCharities.org if you can help with this project before February 2011.

$1,000 Needed for Medical Costs for Special Needs Woman

Request from Pastor Matthew Gunia, Zion Lutheran Church, Lyons, Illinois and Faith Lutheran Church, Westchester, Illinois I would like to request help for a community member that I am working with who has some medical issues. She is 27 years old and is a special needs person. She does not have health insurance and developed a yeast infection two months ago. The infection wasn't treated properly and ended up turning into a kidney and bladder infection. She's been scraping up money and visiting the doctor and getting prescriptions here and there, but because of the cost she hasn't been consistent enough so the infection has not cleared. She's lost quite a bit of weight. She is in need of money to pay for her doctor visits and prescriptions to get the infection knocked out or possibly a doctor who would be willing to treat her pro-bono. She has had many challenges in her life and is very skeptical. She has a lot of trouble believing that someone would actually help her without expecting something in return. She knows and trusts me, but is positive that any help she may get will have strings attached. Any help would be such a blessing and such a witness to her about the Body of Christ. Help Lutheran Hour Ministries Build Wells in Ghana

Request from Rev. John Donkoh, Director of Lutheran Media Ministry, Ghana, West Africa Lutheran Media Ministry, part of Lutheran Hour Ministries, is based in Ghana, West Africa. Rev. Disasters Can Hit Anytime Anywhere, Therefore LCC Will Continue To Offer Congregational Preparedness Training LCMS Human Care and World relief has put together the training and tools needed for a congregation to develop a plan for being prepared if a disaster hits. Not only that - LCC and the District Disaster Response Team are trained and willing to take your congregation through the plan. This takes about 3 hours with key leaders of your church. Members of LCC and the District Disaster Response team will continue to consult with your congregation, helping you through each of the various aspects to have a plan in place. Congregational Preparedness Training (CPT) addresses questions like "Do we have a contingency plan in the event that the pastor becomes a victim of a disaster?" or "In the event that a tornado is bearing down on our church on Sunday morning during worship service who should be the person to say we need to evacuate the sanctuary and where is the safest place for all these people to go?" Having recognized that God often uses disaster to open doors for his Church to do ministry, participants address questions like "What are some ways that our congregation can offer Christ's comfort to the community after a disaster?" or "What happens to the church budget - can designated funds be used in times of crises?" If you are interested in scheduling a CPT session, Click here to fill out the CPT interest form. If you are interested in scheduling a CPT session please contact Dianna Bonfield at 866455-6466 or email Dianna@LutheranChurchCharities.org

New Boiler Needed at St. Paul Lutheran School Dorchester Request from Sara Boedecker-Johnston, Principal, St Paul Lutheran School, Chicago

St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran School at 7621 South Dorchester in Chicago is facing an unexpected and significant expense. During a routine maintenance inspection this week, we were told that the boiler has cracked and must be replaced. The cost for a new boiler is $20,000, an amount that cannot be squeezed out of our already lean budget. With inclement Chicago weather just around the corner, we must act quickly to ensure that our students can continue to learn in a warm, safe building. We are seeking prayers and monetary assistance from individuals and congregations.

St. Paul serves 90 students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade on the south side of Chicago in the Grand Crossing neighborhood. Over 90% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch and receive financial assistance to attend school. Your support at this crucial time will help us fulfill our mission: bringing children to know Jesus Christ while providing a quality, academic education in a safe, disciplined environment promoting social, mental, physical and spiritual growth. Ohio District of the LCMS Supports Building Homes and Hope in Haiti Project Pastors at the Ohio District Church Worker Conference showed support for the Building Homes and Hope in Haiti project by adopting the initiative in the Ohio District. The project is well under way in Jacmel and Leogane, Haiti, building homes in a village that will center around a Lutheran Church, school, medical clinic and guesthouse to house American missionaries. The Ohio District is committed to guesthouses to be built in villages devastated by the January 12, 2010, earthquake. Representatives from the district will partner with LCMS World Relief and Human Care to provide a guest house where missionaries can stay as they work with Haitian laborers to build homes. The Gospel is Still the Best Way to Counter Terrorism!

Help Support our Lutheran Outreach Efforts in Lebanon Lebanon is one of the few countries in the Middle East that still has a Christian population. It is a strategic country to reach Muslims in the Middle East. The Lutheran Church has been actively involved in Gospel outreach in Lebanon since the 1950's. Because of Mission cutbacks, support is desperately needed to continue bringing the Gospel to those of the Islamic faith. Tim Hetzner, President of Lutheran Church Charities, will be traveling to Lebanon to meet with our Lutheran Missionaries there to help share the story of the work that is going and can be done! They are desperately in need of our support and prayers during this time of unrest in the Middle East. If we want to effectively fight terrorism, we need to use the only weapon that will make a difference - the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Please help our fellow Christians in Lebanon continue to proclaim the Gospel and serve those in need with the Mercy and Compassion of Christ. To help, send your support to: Lutheran Church Charities, 333 W Lake St, Addison IL 60101 or call LCC at 866-455-6466 or click here for online donations.

Your Donations Make A Difference Deon Hull, Director of Walcamp Outdoor Ministries, receives a check from LCC of your donations to support the ministry of Walcamp.

Thanks to Your Generous Support, We Were Able to Provide Assistance to the following: Walcamp Outdoor Ministries St. Matthew Lutheran Church Soup Kitchen, Chicago

Walcamp Needs Your Help! Did you attend Walcamp when you were young? Do your kids or grandkids attend Walcamp today? Whatever your connection, Walcamp Outdoor Ministries needs your help. Each year, hundreds of children have the opportunity to experience first hand the wonder of God's creation during days and nights at camp. They learn to track animals; learn about the different stars and constellations; they even learn to paddle a canoe and shoot a bow and arrow! And don't forget the bonfires, the food and new friends! For many of these children it may very well be their first time away from home, and the experience is both emotional and spiritual.

In an effort to keep our rates affordable, and to ensure that every child can have this experience, Walcamp subsidizes $75 per child who attends camp. That adds up over the course of a year, and today Walcamp is facing a big gap. "The letters we receive from children and parents touch our hearts, and we try to do so much. We offer scholarships to families, but we still have to turn many children away," said Deon Hull, Walcamp Executive Director. "The economics of running a camp is very real. And we simply cannot afford to help everyone." Won't you consider a gift to Walcamp today? Let's ensure that children will continue to enjoy the activities and education available at Walcamp for years to come. Nurses Desperately Needed In Haiti to Train Haitians on Basic Medical Skills March 3-12, 2011

Lutheran Church Charities is partnering with Linda Arnold of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lisle, Illinois and the Haitian Lutheran Mission Project to put together a special medical mission team of RNs. This team will be teaching local Haitians who are interested in becoming nurses but do not have the opportunity to get the proper training. There is a great need for medical assistants in the Jeremie hospital and the village medical clinics. Participants need to be RNs who are grounded in their Christian faith, comfortable teaching basic first aid, hygiene, and disease prevention to large and small groups. Participants should be in good health and able to handle the rugged conditions of the journey. This trip will involve traveling to remote mountain villages in the back of a pickup truck and teaching through an interpreter, outdoors in extreme heat and less than sanitary conditions. Our dates are not firm but the last week of February or the first week of March are being considered. The trip will last about 10 days and the cost will be $2,000.00 per person. If you are interested in being part of this unique team and want to Make A Difference in the lives of people and in the Kingdom of God click here to register. For more information please contact Tim Hetzner at 866-455-6466 or LCC@LutheranChurchCharities.org

Looking for Ways to Share the Mercy and Compassion of Christ to Those in Your Church and Community? We are in hard economic times. "Times are terrible" many say. But just think what a blessing God has given us to share the Mercy and Compassion of Christ! The door is wide open for the Church to be the Church. Jesus showed us by his life that we are to be the church that "Does Feet" (John 13). People say that they would "do" evangelism, they would reach out to people in need, but their church simply does not have the money right now to do it, things are tight! Dear Christian brothers and sisters, it doesn't take money to touch those in need and pain - it takes you and your willingness to follow Jesus' example. If you would like a staff member of LCC to come out and share ways for you and your church to reach your members and community with the Mercy and Compassion of Christ - without money - contact us at 866-455-6466 or email LCC@LutheranChurchCharities.org. We would be more than happy to come and work with you! By the way, we can even bring our K-9 Parish Comfort Dogs with us. This also will NOT cost you!

Motorcycles Needed to Help Pastors in Haiti Spread the Gospel When Tim Hetzner traveled to Haiti in March 2010 he purchased several motorcycles for the pastors to use for transportation. Because of the terrible condition of the roads, motorcycles are the most efficient means of transportation for many of the pastors who must travel many miles between the different churches that they serve and to get to their members. More motorcycles are desperately needed. A new motorcycle costs $1,000 and is an important tool that helps the pastors to minister to their members and Laypastor Gabriel Jules spread the Gospel throughout Haiti. Pictured are two pastors that have been helped because of your support. Click here to donate Pastor Reliere Augustn

Malaria Initiative `Malaria Initiative' is a non-profit corporation formed by Susan Busse M.D., Thomas Hesselink M.D., and John Peterson, to bring spiritual and medical treatment to those suffering from Malaria, working with Lutheran Church Charities. A treatment of acidified sodium chlorite at a cost of less than $00.01 USD. per dose has proven to be very promising in preliminary laboratory and field trials. We have been working in Uganda, Sierria Leone, Ethiopia, and Ghana to improve our working relationship in these countries to further the treatment of Malaria using this particular treatment. Our goal is to spread the Message of Christ and bring a useful and inexpensive treatment for Malaria; Malaria being the number one infectious killer world wide. We are currently working at gathering more scientific data from sites that have Malaria patients, to track them along with their progress, and to document the results of the treatments so we can publish in medical journals. We are supporting a PhD. student doing thesis work at Western Michigan University on this promising treatment. Malaria Initiative is looking to get help financing the above stated goals so they may travel to train personnel and fulfill all our commitments. The three principals have taken no payment for their services, all have volunteered their services and funded much of the costs out of pocket along with donations from generous donors. Tim's Pick of the Week Outlive Your Life By Max Lucado These are difficult days in our world's history. Billions of people are poor; millions go hungry or thirsty every day. Disease claims thousands of lives daily. But you and I have been given an opportunity to make a big difference. What if we did? What if we rocked the world with hope? Infiltrated all corners with God's love and life? We are created by a great God to do great works. He invites us to outlive our lives, not just in heaven but here on earth. What if you lived in such a way that your death was just the beginning of your life?

LCC Emergency Assistance Fund LCC gets requests daily concerning people who need assistance, and it is increasing because of the current economic times we are living in. LCC works through our churches to provide assistance by making the need known - and dollar per dollar we give the money to a church to help the family or individual. However, we receive some requests that are emergencies, and money is needed that day or the next day and we can't always get the need out in our weekly email newsletter first. Would you consider making a gift to our LCC Emergency Assistance fund so that when these emergency needs occur we can help (through our churches) quicker? This is an important way for the Body of Christ to share the Mercy and Compassion and Proclamation of Christ. To contribute please click here Thank you for continuing to Make A Difference!
