LCC and LWML Need Your Help to Ship Supplies to the Lutheran Church in Ghana The generous support of so many churches and individuals have left us with a new (albeit a good) problem: we have to ship the donated outreach supplies to Ghana. Deaconess Hannah BartPlange returned to Ghana last week with two overstuffed suitcases filled with donations - communion ware, hymnals, catechisms, clothes. However, the items far exceeded what she could take with her. Rebekah Litfin, President of Lutheran Women in Mission (LWML) at St. John Lutheran in Wheaton has been working with shipping companies to determine how to get the remaining donations to Ghana, in the best and most cost effective manner possible. She has found a service that will ship a special container (about the size of an oil drum) for a flat rate around $200 regardless of the weight of the contents. We estimate, however, that we have enough to fill multiple containers and hope to be able to fill more in the months ahead. Please help us to offset the shipping costs of the wonderful outreach and worship materials that were donated to the growing Lutheran community in Ghana! Help a Lutheran Teacher Get the Hearing Aid She Needs
Request from Pastor Brian Truog, Cross Lutheran Church, Yorkville We are working with a member who needs assistance for a specialized hearing aid. She has Meniere's disease and the hearing aid costs $3,500. Due to a lengthy recovery after a car accident in October, 2008 and the down turn of the economy she lost her job as a Lutheran school teacher and her husband also lost his job. Because of their unemployment they lost their Indiana apartment and have moved back to the Yorkville area to live with her parents. Because she was let go when the Lutheran School she worked for closed, she no longer has disability insurance to cover the cost. Cross is helping the family but any donations to help pay for her hearing aid would be a great blessing. Click here to donate!

Family of Three in Need of Housing Request from Pastor Bill Cate, St. Peter Lutheran Church, Schaumburg
A family of three is in need of housing. The mother has been the primary care giver for their young daughter, who was born with a cleft palate. The father has lost his last three positions because his employers experienced financial problems. They relocated from Florida where they had been living with family when the husband received a job in this area last year. Unfortunately, he is unemployed again due to the economy. They would prefer to stay in the Chicago area because their daughter is going through speech therapy after surgery to correct her cleft palate through the generosity of Shriners Hospital. With no income in the foreseeable future they are unable to pay rent or a mortgage and need a place to live. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you can help this family find housing please contact LCC at or email LCC@LutheranChurchCharities.org
Single Woman Needs Housing
Request from Pastor Bill Cate, St. Peter Lutheran Church, Schaumburg A woman in our congregation with unique circumstances is in need of housing. Her husband has filed for divorce and she is unable to work a steady job due to chronic migraine headaches and other medical problems. She is on permanent disability, but without her husband's income she cannot afford her own place to live. There is a complication in searching for a roommate: she owns three dogs that she wants to keep, so she is in need of someone who loves animals and would be willing to share living space. Please contact Pastor Bill Cate at St. Peter Lutheran Church Schaumburg if you can help. . .

Over 400 years ago, Germans, following in Martin Luther's tradition, came to the new mission field to share the Love of Christ, and today we call it home: America. Many of us have Europeans to thank for our spiritual heritage. Unfortunately, the spiritual climate between continents seems to be shifting: Europe today is one of the least-churched areas of the world, with many college-aged adults having little-to-no experience with organized Christianity. Many students, when asked,

19 Year Old with Cancer Needs Assistance for Medical Treatment
Request from Pastor Steve Maske, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Flint, Michigan
Update from Shyra's Grandmother: My Granddaughter has to have a bone marrow transplant in Detroit to sustain her life. It's been a hard 2 years for my family, we have had 4 deaths in the last 14 months. Shyra Voelker (19) has been diagnosed with cancer. Her family lived in a house that had been built on a toxic chemical site near Flint, Michigan. Her father Ron Voeler died from cancer March 7, 2009. The family received no life insurance. Family of Five in Need
Request from Pastor Duane Fluechtling, St. John Lutheran Church, Lansing, Illinois
Update from Pastor Fluechtling: The father has recently found employment and is actually making more than he was. The mother is working from the home now and is gradually increasing her work load. This is the good news. However they are extremely far behind on their utilities. Their gas and electric bills came close to $4,000.00. With the help of some generous people and some quick action and with the help of LCC we were able to keep the electric turned on. The gas has been turned off for several months and still is turned off until the bill is paid in full, (almost $2000.00). They cook and heat their water with gas. Their greatest need right now would be to get the gas turned back on and caught up on their electric bill.

A Ministry to Reach the Poor and the Needy in Rural Bethlehem The Ajyal Elder Care Program , coordinated by Raeda Mansour, Parish Nurse, is an innovative program that provides a variety of care solutions to the elderly people in the Bethlehem. For active seniors, there are weekly meetings provided for recreation, fellowship, and shared meals. However, there are many elderly people in rural villages, refugee camps and urban areas surrounding Bethlehem that have little or no mobility. Nurses have been hired for home visits to these people under the ministry of Ajyal II. Ajyal II nurses have a difficult time reaching some of the neediest people, because of the road conditions in the villages. They are in desperate need of a 4 wheel drive vehicle to assist them with their visits Please consider making a donation to help those who are so very willing to help others. An intergenerational group of twenty-five performers from the church and school will present "Once Upon A Parable" by Allen Pote and Tom Long, on Sat., Aug. 22 at 6:30 with refreshments to follow, and during the education hour on Sunday, Aug. 23 from 9:30 to 10:30. The performances will be held in the school gym. New stage curtains were given in memory of Pastor David Smith. The musical is dedicated to the glory of God and in memory of Pastor Smith. A short media presentation will be shown, based on Pastor's theatrical pursuits. The play is humorous with catchy tunes, but the strong message of God's love and forgiveness in Christ is the theme. Family members have enjoyed going to practices together and it is hoped that this will be the first of many plays with a Christian message. All are invited to attend.
