Artesia Council moves forward on downtown parking structure By Jerry Bernstein
An early morning collision Jan. 5 on Carmenita Road and Ashworth Street resulted in the death of one driver and minor injuries to the second driver. According to Sgt Eric. Smitson of the Cerritos Sheriff Station, the driver of the Jeep Cherokee, an 18 year old man was driving north on Carmenita when he lost control of his vehicle, crossed over the raised divider and crashed into a southbound mini-van head-on killing the driver. The driver of mini-van, Santos Romero Martinez. 38, a resident of Whittier, was killed instantly. The 18-year-old driver was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries and upon his release from the hospital was arrested, later released on his own recognizance. His name will not be released until the investigation of the accident is completed.
The float featured a large gondola with a gondolier serenading a couple. Float riders included Mayor Bruce W. Barrows and his wife Teresa, Miss Cerritos Nicole Zambolla and Cerritos Junior Miss Hilary Brown. The gondola was surrounded by “water” made of blue flowers. A large animated jester was located at the back of the float, which measured 35 feet long, 18 feet wide and 22 feet tall. The City and Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts received outstanding positive exposure as millions of people viewed the international television coverage of the parade. The positive media coverage built upon the City’s stellar reputation as a special place to live and as a desirable place to locate a business. Such excellent, international attention contributes to the community’s
Plans for an auto park it system for Artesia’s downtown cultural and business district moved forward Dec. 15 with the City Council authorizing the city staff and representatives of the Auto Park lt Systems [API] to further develop details and design for its consideration. The council voted to continue further consideration of the matter until a check of the company’s background and true verification of ownership of the patent rights by API. It also ordered a site plan and competitive bids for site improvements and all other improvements determined by the City Attorney to not be eligible as a single source bid pertaining to the proposal. In addition the council wants API to train city crews and allow the City Pubic Works staff and others as determined by the City to perform ongoing maintenance. Estimated cost of the project is $3.5 million. Money
for the project would come from the 2007 Bond approved by the voters. In other business the Council approved a Planning Commission recommendation for the city to buy the property at 16712 Pioneer Blvd., 11814 168th St., 11815 168th St., and 11817 168th St. for mixed use and affordable housing. ABC School Board rejects new program citing loss of local control to Sacramento By Jerry Bernstein The ABC school board voted not to support a Memorandum of Understanding between the State of California and the ABC Unified School District in support of the state’s application to receive a share of $4.3 billion in new federal funds that will be available through the “Race to the Top” program, which is designed to push states into adopting education reforms favored by Washington. In a 5-1-1 vote, with Board Member James Kang voting in support of the measure and Board Member Sophia Tse abstaining, the Board majority accused Sacramento and Washington of usurping local school board authority and noted the amount of money the District would receive, if at all, would be approximately $17 per student over a four year period. The District’s current enrollment, including Adult School students, is approximately 20,781. Board President Celia Spitzer questioned the state’s quest to participate in the program, questioning whether Sacramento was really interested in improving the schools or the money it would receive. She said Sacramento’s track record on providing promised school funding was very poor. She also pointed out that not every state would receive money under the program and there was no guarantee California would be one of them. “There is only so much money to go around, “ she stated. Superintendent Dr. Gary Smuts said the Memorandum of Understanding and application bypasses the school board. He said the only required signature is the superintendents. It says nothing about the Board giving its approval. “The California School Board Association says this is illegal,” he stated. “The Education code has not been revised taking that authority away from school boards.” He said he would not sign such an agreement without the approval of the board. The question repeatedly brought up was why would the school board relinquish its authority to the state and federal
governments. “It doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.” Spitzer said school employees work for the school board, not for state and federal governments. Board Member Armin Reyes described the Memorandum as a carrot with a big stick. He said its all about money and asked if the state really cares what happens to the school districts. He said the people elect the school board to look after the education of their kids, which he described as doing well in ABC. “It’s a smoking cannon,” he asserted. Board Member Olympia Chen said the small amount of money ABC will receive is not worth signing their [Board Authority] lives away. She warned about hidden costs in the proposal and who would pay for them. Mrs. Chen also questioned the removal of principals and teachers if it was decided they were doing a poor job. “What do we do with them? Fire them?” She said there were to many areas that needed to be filled in. “Let them figure it out first before we jump in.” Board Member Sophia Tse agreed the district is already doing many of the programs being touted by the state, and questioned why they [Board members] would want to give up their education authority. On the other hand she felt the District could utilize some of the enhancements in the federal program for some of its other programs. She agreed there were many gaps in the programs proposal . Board Member James Kang said there were several ways the District could achieve its goals. One of the positive things if California is one of the states selected is the fact the government would give ABC money. He wanted to know how the sum of $17 per pupil was reached. ABC Chief Financial Director Toan Nguyen said the figure was given by the State. Kang said the thought the figure was closer to $60. Kang also liked the suggestion that

La Palma families entertained at Kennedy High Performing Arts Center By Larry Caballero When La Palma families were asked to volunteer and share their homes with students from southern Japan for a few days, many were eager to do it. After all, the students were no ordinary students but members of the internationally renown Kansai Honor Green Band that has performed for La Palma families before at the Kennedy High School’s Performing Arts Center and had been invited to perform in the Rose Bowl Parade on New Year’s Day. The Band was deeply saddened by the deaths of firefighters and the devastation caused by the recent fires in Southern California. It is the custom of the Band to perform benefit concerts in the areas they tour, with the proceeds to be donated to a worthy cause, typically to victims of a natural disaster. With this in mind, the Los Angeles County Firefighters Memorial Widows and Orphans Fund was selected to receive the donations on behalf of wildfire victims and their families. Again this year, the students didn’t let their adopted families down when they performed a Benefit Concert Jan. 2 for the widows and orphans of Station Firefighters. The band played the very popular “A Disneyland Celebration” which all of the children and the young at heart enjoyed before the fast moving “Radetzky March”
by Johann Strauss where audience participation was encouraged. Long-time La Palma resident Barbara Mast, who had opened her home a couple of years ago to four members, volunteered to conduct the band to the delight of all who were in attendance, including the band members when she was able to communicate with them in Japanese. Mast and her husband George had both visited Japan on several occasions, and both knew the basic greetings and how to count to at least ten in Japanese. “I was honored to have been chosen to conduct the band,” said Mast. “I was so excited, and it was so much fun.” The audience clapped their hands many times to the music, but never more than when the band members played the patriotic “The Stars and Stripes Forever March, and they were in awe to hear the musical numbers from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s haunting “The Phantom of the Opera.” When the band played its final number, Michael Jackson’s “We Are The World,” members of the band left the stage to find their adopted families in the audience. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house while the families and band members hugged one another, knowing that they would probably be a part for a very long time.

Illegal and unsafe drop-off of schoolchildren in Cerritos could result in a hefty citation By Jerry Bernstein The illegal and unsafe loading and unloading of schoolchildren from cars on to roadways near schools is subject to a citation. In an effort to improve public safety, the Cerritos City Council approved an ordinance implementing a fine for illegal and unsafe loading and unloading of schoolchildren from cars. A violation of the ordinance is subject to a $25 City fine; additional State and County penalties attached to the citation bring the total fine to more than $100. Near school locations, Cerritos residents and traffic deputies have observed many adults routinely walking their children across busy streets outside of crosswalks. They have also observed people illegally parking their car, often in the middle of the block, and allowing their child to cross the street. This practice poses a safety risk, especially to young children. Some drivers also block driveways and fire hydrants in residential areas while they unload passengers or walk their children to school. Recently residents living on Mapes Avenue adjacent to Gahr High School have complained about cars blocking their street, making U-turns and using their driveways to drop off students and picking them each morning and afternoon. schools in Cerritos face similar traffic problems. In response to these and the safety risks involved, the Cerritos Municipal Code states the following: * No driver may stop, park or leave his or her vehicle for the purpose of loading or unloading passengers unless the vehicle is legally parked. • No driver may stop, park or leave any vehicle in the roadway across from or adjacent to any public or private school for the purpose of loading or unloading anyone attending schools in grades K-12, where in order to reach the school or grounds from the vehicle or reach the vehicle from the school or grounds, it is necessary for a pedestrian to walk across a roadway. • This section would be inapplicable where traffic is controlled by a traffic officer, a school crossing guard, an official traffic control sign or signal, or where there is a marked pedestrian crosswalk that the pedestrian walks on. When transporting children to and from school, parents are encouraged to park legally and escort their children across the street at a marked crosswalk. In the case of Gahr, parents are encouraged to drive onto the campus parking lot. Gahr Principal Gina Zietlow said there are three exits from the campus. Central Basin Board approves construction of recycled water project scheduled to break ground in January The Central Basin Municipal Water District Board of director unanimously approved the construction contract for a 15-mile recycled water pipeline that will extend from Pico River through Montebello and southeast Los Angeles, The Board also voted to delay implementation of the infrastructure Surcharge that will help fund the project until 2013. Known as the Southeast Water Reliability Project [SWRP], it will enhance4 the operational reliability of the current water system by completing a “loop” of existing pipelines. Once completed SWRP will provide nearly five billion gallons of recycled water annually to meet the demands of large industrial and irrigation users in the area. Through the increase use of recycled water, SWRP will help the entire region conserve limited potable water supplies and will reduce regional demand on imported water by 25 per cent. “This project is extremely important to southeast Los Angeles County, “ said
Central Basin General Manager Art Aguilar. “Since the beginning, our recycled water system was intended to be a looped system. SWRP will finally achieve this. And will create more than 254 jobs for our community in the process. Now is the time to make this happen.” SWRP has qualified to receive $5.6 million in federal stimulus funding and $3.5 million through California Proposition 50 grant funding. The project will also be funded in part through an infrastructure Surcharge, which the Central Basin Board of director voted to implement in two phases and delay until 2013 and 2022 respectively. “There is no question the surcharge is both necessary and long overdue,” continued Aguilar. “By delaying it for several years, our cities and retailers will have the time they need to incorporated it into their annual budgets.” For more information about the Southwest Water Reliability Project visit www. centralbasin.org.

Call (714) 523-4327 I was told that I have nerve deafness and that hearing aids would not help me. Is this true?
Many people have been told this over the years, but it is not necessarily true. The majority of people who have “nerve deafness,” or sensorineural hearing loss, improve their hearing through the use of hearing aids. There is no medicine or surgery to repair the inner ear, so these hearing impaired individuals need amplification systems to hear their loved ones. Improvements in computer-chip technology have also made hearing aid systems and assistive listening devices (ALDs) much more advanced than years ago. They are available now to make your life, and those of your loved ones, much easier.

Q Representatives U A R T E R LY N E W S Lfrom E T T E RSister City of Jamay visit Artesia
Representatives from Artesia’s Sister City of Jamay, in the state of Jalisco, Mexico, toured the City and visited local attractions on October 23. First, the visitors enjoyed a Brazilian steak house called Greenfield’s, in the City of Long Beach. Afterward, the Office of Congresswoman Linda Sanchez presented a Certificate of Recognition to the visiting Jamay representatives while at a brief stop at City Hall. They topped off the afternoon with a tour of Fire Station 30, on Pioneer and South, which serves Artesia. Firefighters displayed various features of American fire trucks, and also exhibited a search and rescue dog.
State of the city budget Reports from the Federal Reserve suggest that the recession has ‘bottomed out’. However, times are still tough, especially when the City is seeking to keep its current level of service at the same level. Artesia will be facing an expected $848,000 deficit next fiscal year, and has already dipped into its reserves by $305,000. Thanks to numerous cost-reductions by the City and its Departments, expenditures were under the adopted budget by 1.3 percent. All capital projects, real property, or equipment purchases took place from funds other than the General Fund (Restricted or Redevelopment funds). This fiscal year, the City has removed numerous special events, or at least reduced their cost. All departments have slashed a minimum of two percent off previous operating levels, which were already very lean to begin with. Even city travel has been abolished or significantly
reduced. City Manager Maria Dadian has obtained cooperation from the City’s consultants and other contracts for fee reductions. These consultants are used with careful direction to ensure the City is receiving the most efficient, technical and professional staff support for tasks that cannot be used with the City’s current resources. Two measures were also placed on the ballot, with the successful passing of one, which will increase a tax paid for by hotel guests. The City is also negotiating with the employee union representatives. Although proposals and counter-proposals have been made, no agreement has been finalized. While the City’s reserve balance for 2010 is $2,526,000; the City can not continue using its reserves at the current rate, and unfortunately more cuts will have to be made and harsh decisions will be declared for next year’s operations.

Artesia Christmas tree recycling program RECYCLE your Christmas tree by participating in the City’s Curbside Recycling Program! The Sanitation Districts will again be accepting loads of residential Christmas trees from Artesia residents and other sponsored local collection programs at no charge. The Christmas Tree Recycling Program for Artesia residents will be until January 16. The City of Artesia has arranged for the Christmas trees to be picked up by Consolidated Disposal Services at the
curb on your regular trash pick up day. All plastic containers, metal stands and bars, ornaments, and the bulk of tinsel should be removed from Christmas trees. Flocked trees and trees coated with a fire retardant will be accepted. The Christmas trees will be collected, grouped up and used productively around the County Sanitation Districts’ landfills as mulch or compost. GIVE YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE A PRODUCTIVE REUSE!
Be wary of curb painting scams Artesians have recently been targeted by scam artists who call themselves "Curb Addressing Service." The City has not authorized this organization or any others to paint any curbs in the City. The last authorized curb painting project was in 2006. The next scheduled curb address painting will occur in 2010, and the City will be seeking organizations that would be willing to do this service for donations.
When the City chooses the organization it wishes to have paint its curbs, notifications will be sent out to residents, along with the dates that the curb painting project is scheduled to occur. Until that time, if someone does approach your home and asks for a donation for painting your curb, or if you witness curb addresses being painted anywhere in the city, please either call City Hall at (562) 865-6262 or the Lakewood Sheriffs at (562) 623-3500.
South Street reconstruction The City seized the opportunity for approximately $500,000 in stimulus money to build a median and reconstruct Artesia's portion of South Street. Because of the holidays, construction has been postponed out of a courtesy for shoppers. Construction will resume in January and should be finished in mid-January.

CALIFORNIA CLASSIC
Gahr rings in new year with first loss of season By Loren Kopff The Gahr boys basketball team began 2009 with a loss to Mater Dei but went on to win 26 out of the next 33 games including 14 in a row to begin the new winter season. As the calendar flipped to a new year, the Gladiators welcomed the 2010 year the same as they did last year-with a loss. For the first time since last March, the Gladiators tasted defeat on the court as Clovis West rallied in the fourth quarter for a 74-66 victory last Saturday in the inaugural California Classic at Cerritos College. Gahr was held to 22 points below its season average and shot 43 percent from the field but only 26 percent from three-point land. “We’ve been able to play poorly in a couple of games and still win,” said Gahr head coach Bob Becker. “Today we weren’t. We played poorly, although we made a nice comeback in the third quarter.” Gahr had blistered its opponents through the first 14 games, winning by an average of nearly 19 points and reaching the century mark three times. But against the Golden Eagles, it had problems containing Jason Ritchey early and Denzel Johnson, along with Ritchey late. Ritchey scored the first 13 points for Clovis West before being summoned to the bench with two fouls late in the opening quarter. At that point, the Golden Eagles were leading 15-9. Gahr took its second lead of the game inside the first minute of the second quarter on a three-pointer from sophomore Anthony Martinez. But Clovis West, who entered the contest with a 10-2 record, went on a 10-1 run over the next two minutes, aided by downtown shots from Nickos Natsues and Johnson. Gahr countered that

run with one of its own, scoring the game’s next seven points and by halftime, was only down a point at 33-32. Junior Davon Potts, the team’s leading scorer at 24.1 points a game, hit on just one of 11 shots in the first half but senior Ervin Ware kept Gahr in the game with 13 points in the first half. As was the case to begin the game and the second quarter, Gahr scored the first basket of the third quarter as Potts put his team in the lead for the third time. Following a basket from Johnson, the Gladiators turned it up a bit and went on a 13-1 run to lead 47-36 late in the stanza. But the turning point came when the team missed a pair of wide open lay-ups which could have extended the lead to as many as 15 points. That would prove to be critical because Johnson and Ritchey combined to score the final 11 points of the quarter including a pair of free throws by Ritchey with no time remaining in the stanza. Ware scored the opening basket of the fourth quarter but Derek Walters soon tied the game, then Johnson scored a threepointer, and added a free throw to give the Golden Eagles the lead for good with 6:22 left to play. “They don’t just have one weapon,” Becker said. “They have three really solid players and we didn’t match them today. Our better players did not play their best games. Davon was really off and couldn’t make a shot. A lot of times, his shooting has a big affect on his defense. He defends a lot better when he shoots a lot better.” Gahr would get as close as two points over the next 40 seconds but Clovis West was just too much in the fourth quarter with Ritchey scoring 12 of his game-high 28 points and Johnson adding nine of his 25 points. Ware scored a team-high 26 points while Potts and junior Javonte Sales added 14 and 10 points respectively. Junior Josh Perkins grabbed 13 rebounds. Gahr has yet to play a regular season home game on its own court. The Gladiators began the season with four games in the Cerritos/Gahr Tournament at Cerritos, and then played the Dons a week later on the road. Before Christmas, the team went to Fresno to play in the Hoover Tournament, and then came back to Southern California to play Valley Christian in the ABC Showcase, held at Cerritos. That game was played hours upon arriving from Fresno. Three days later, the team went back to Fresno where it won the prestigious Clovis Elks Tournament. “Considering who we were playing, I think it was a wash,” Becker said. “They have also been on the road. When we went to Fresno, they came down here. Both teams have had a lot of time on the road. I don’t look at that as a factor. I just look at it as one team maybe wanting it a little bit more, seeing that they have an opportunity to do something that no one else has done.” Gahr will be tested once again when it plays small school state perennial power Price in the Pangos Dream Classic on Saturday at Long Beach Cabrillo. Both teams are ranked in the top 15 by the Los Angeles Times and Price has won five California Interscholastic Federation state championships since 2000. Then the Gladiators
finally open San Gabriel Valley League action with a home game against Downey on Wednesday. “We’re still battling but we’re getting a lot more experience and there’s no substitution for experience,” Becker said. “We’re a lot more experienced than where we were and that’s paid off early. We have to continually get better and improve on where we are.”
SUBURBAN LEAGUE BASKETBALL
Norwalk hoopsters drowned in deluge of points by Monsoons By Loren Kopff LAKEWOOD-Now the fun begins in what has been predicted as an unexpected Suburban League boys basketball season. At least three teams can put in a legitimate claim as to why each can win the league and two of them faced each other this past Wednesday when Norwalk visited two time defending champion Mayfair. What was a close game for the first three quarters turned into a rout as the Monsoons outscored Norwalk by 19 points in the fourth quarter and ran away with a 74-49 victory. Norwalk, which led twice in the second half, fell to 7-9 overall and 0-1 in the league. “I think we knew we could play with them; it’s just a matter of keeping up and making the plays,” said Norwalk head coach Jim Webster. Norwalk’s biggest lead of the game came at the 5:11 mark of the first quarter when senior Anthony Holliday scored off a turnover as the Lancers led 7-3. But over the next eight minutes, Mayfair would go on an 18-8 run to lead 21-15. The Lancers, fresh off of winning the Whittier Christian Tournament after Christmas, battled back to tie the game at 26-26 following a three-point play from Holliday. He scored 17 points in the first half on six of 13 shooting from the field while junior Manuel Castaneda and sophomore Terrance Traylor combined to score the remaining nine points in the half. Despite the tied score at the break, the Lancers shot 33 percent from the field. Holliday began the second half strong, scoring nine of the team’s 13 points in the third quarter including a three-pointer at the top of the key with 4:17 left in the stanza which made it a 35-34 Mayfair advantage. But about a minute later, Castaneda was whistled for his fourth foul, an infraction that clearly should have gone to junior Cammie Lewis. As a result, the visitors had to do without their second leading scorer the rest of the quarter. He would eventually foul out with 4:35 left to play and by that time, Mayfair had extended its lead to 10 at 54-44. “Getting Manuel out of the game with foul trouble didn’t help,” Webster said.
“There were probably three possessions on each side of the ball, we didn’t score and they got about seven or eight points in front of us. Once they got to 10, I don’t think we were able to catch up.” In fact, Castaneda scored five straight points to bring his team to within five points. But the Monsoons concluded the game on a 25-5 run with Tim Douglas making 11 of 12 free throws and Dion Wright scoring eight points. Norwalk was true on nine field goals in the second half and Holliday finished with a season-high 26 points, but none in the fourth quarter. Castaneda added 15 points while Traylor chipped in with six points and eight rebounds. Senior Jeffrey Montoya dished out five assists. “We were looking for some points and we missed a lot of easy shots too,” Webster said. “We missed a lot of easy shots and they made them. They get in the paint, they make you chase and they crash the boards. “It looked like we were getting more shots for everyone but they weren’t hitting them,” Webster added. “Last week in the tournament, we had a lot of balance. But league is different and we have to make plays and finish.” Prior to the boys game, the Lady Lancers turned the ball over 13 times in the first quarter and scored two points in that time as they were ambushed 70-31 by the favorites to win the league. The game was to be a matchup of the league’s top two playerssenior Alexis Love and Chidiogo Ofoegbu and the latter scored eight points in the first quarter. But Mayfair was also paced by Brianne Bunch, who equaled Ofoegbu in the opening quarter. Love would hit a pair of free throws with 4:57 left in the opening quarter but after that, the Monsoons scored the next 18 points to put the game away early. Of the 25 points scored in the stanza, all but eight came off of turnovers. When it was all said and done, Amanda Gosselin had scored a game-high 19 points for the Monsoons while Bunch and Ofoegbu each tallied 11 points. Ofoegbu also pulled down 14 rebounds while Bunch had seven steals. Norwalk’s successful quarter was the second when it scored a dozen points but connected on five of 16 field goals. Love, the future Loyola Marymount University standout, led her team with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Both Norwalk teams will host Cerritos tonight in another key early league matchup that could say a lot as far as who stays at the top of the circuit. The Dons were off this past Wednesday. Norwalk will then stay home to greet Bellflower on Wednesday.

TO ADVERTISE CALL 800-901-7211 The last thing the Norwalk boys soccer team wanted as it entered its Suburban League opener this past Wednesday was to have a sluggish or sloppy game against Lynwood. The Lancers got a little bit of everything, playing with nine players by the end of the game but coming away with a 3-2 victory. Norwalk concludes the non-league portion of its schedule at 3-3-1 with the three goals being a season-high. Norwalk entered the game having scored a total of seven goals. But, with the good comes some bad as junior forward Andres Silva was issued a red card in the 33rd minute and later in the second half, junior defender Erick Quiroz was sent to the sidelines after receiving his second yellow card of the game. “It shows that our conditioning is where it needs to be,” said Norwalk head coach Vinson Pluma. “I’m okay with that, but I’m still not happy with all of the red cards. They need to be more controlled.” Despite the two ejections, the Lancers managed to set the tone early with a pair of goals right out of the gate. Just two minutes into the contest, junior midfielder Louis Cortez took a free kick that curled inside the upper right corner of the net. Then in the ninth minute, senior defender Manuel Corona launched a deep pass that bounced towards senior forward Angel Rocha. As Rocha was battling a Lynwood defender with the ball still bouncing, Rocha got close enough to where he could head the ball into the goal for the 2-0 lead. Norwalk’s last goal came four minutes into the second half when senior forward Alejandro Maciel’s shot just got inside the left post. It was his team-leading third goal of the season. “That’s always important for any team; to go up early,” Pluma said. “It relaxes you, as a team while the other team gets a little anxious. However, I think that woke [Lynwood] up and we had to fight that off and still be patient. We weren’t as controlled and smooth as we should have been.” Lynwood would control most of the second half with goals coming in the 48 and 52nd minutes. But the Lancers held their own despite taking only two shots after the clinching goal. The defending Suburban League champions, who return only four starters, will visit Cerritos today and Bellflower on Wednesday. Norwalk is hoping to be the first team to win consecutive league championships since it accomplished that feat in the 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 seasons. However, the Lancers haven’t won a playoff game since Feb. 2006. “La Mirada looks good with its good start but the teams they’ve been playing are just okay,” Pluma said. “But you never know. They look like they have a good, strong midfield which can control most teams. Cerritos, Glenn, Bellflower…their records don’t show that much but who knows? I don’t count anybody out.”

The agency adds local infrastructure projects to a national list of U.S. Army Corp of Engineering-partnered projects. City Manager Maria Dadian told the council a proposal was submitted for fire flow improvement and requested consideration in this year’s WRDA bill. Specifically the city is seeking funding for new water mains on 183rd Street, a major collector street from Gridley Road to Roseton Avenue as well as new construction of new water mains on the intersecting residential

He also thought those who were doing better should receive additional compensation. Those were some of the reasons he favored the Memorandum. He disagreed with his colleagues and said the agreement does not call for the firing of teachers and principals who are not doing a good job, but gives them an opportunity to improve. “I have faith in our federal and state governments,” he concluded. Board Member Maynard Law said the Board members were elected to serve all the people in our ABC Community. “I can’t imagine a worst way of serving all these people than to give away our leadership. This really violates the culture here in ABC.” He said ABC has built many partnerships between the union and other groups. “This is giving away what we were elected to do. If we give away our control we’re giving away the shop.” He said the money that ABC would receive is so small, it’s not even worth talking about it.
