My favorite service event of this month was the root beer float sales at Memorial Park. The root beer float sales are held every summer on Sundays during Music in the Park. This was my first time attending this service event and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It was fun making the floats, talking with fellow Key Club members, listening to music, and advertising around the park with signs. Making root beer floats was a little new to me so I had some help from others. I wasn’t the best at making them so I just ended up holding signs and giving some spoons and napkins to people who bought a float or ice cream. At the end of the day I felt good about being able to help in raising over $200 and also being able to get to know other Key Club members that I did not know very well before the event. - Jennifer Yoon
As a final celebrations of the years go, this year's banquet ranked above the rest. A joint banquet with Division 3 South, the event was truly a time to come together and enjoy the accomplishments of the year. La CaĂąada also ended up being recognized with five different awards, Christine Noh earning the Distinguished Vice President award, David Jin earning the Distinguished Secretary Award, Ben Blanco earning the Distinguished Treasurer Award, Colin Suehiro earning the Member of the Year award, and the club earning the Most Funds Raised Award. It was a lot of fun to see so many familiar faces, from freshman to graduates, I was able to see the wide reach of Key Club and hope that you all will attend next year. - Matthew Lim
Root Beer Float Sales is an annual fundraiser that is held at the Memorial Park during the weekly Music in the Park concerts. The money raised during these sales go towards our club and the Eliminate Project, which aims to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus from the face of the earth. These weekly fundraisers enable our club, both members and officers alike, to bond and work together towards this charitable cause. Root Beer Float Sales always remind me that planning ahead is very important. They're only successful when we communicate and coordinate who will bring what supplies, and we work most efficiently when each person is assigned a 'task' to do. This event really gives you experience on how to collaborate with others, manage money, and deal with customers, while at the same time having fun because you're doing it alongside your friends. I want to say a huge thank you to the volunteers who come every Sunday to help set up, scoop, and serve root beer floats for three hours during these hot summer evenings. I'm so proud of the cooperation, teamwork, and spirit I've seen over the past few weeks, and I look forward to seeing everyone again this upcoming weekend. - Chantalle Cheung (VP)
