Nick Brooker, Branch Manager of Handelsbanken Sevenoaks, sheds light on this industry-wide service. The Current Account Switch Service was introduced in September 2013 by the UK banking industry. A free service, it enables individuals and many small businesses, small trusts and charities to move their current accounts swiftly and reliably from one participating bank or building society to another. It is supported by the Current Account Switch Guarantee, which ensures your current account will switch on a day of your choice, your payments will be automatically transferred and redirected to your new account, and in the unlikely event anything goes wrong with your switch, your new bank will refund any interest and charges (incurred on your old or new current accounts) as a result of this failure as soon as it is brought to the bank’s attention. So, how does it work? In simple terms, the customer selects and agrees a “switch date” with their new bank, which is at least seven working days away. All of their existing direct debits, standing orders and incoming payments will move across from their old account too. And to ensure nothing falls by the wayside, the switch service will

redirect any payments that go to the customer’s old bank, for a period of 13 months. Not all banks and building societies participate in the Current Account Switch Service, although the majority of mainstream institutions, including Handelsbanken, do; a point worth checking. As the name of the service implies, other accounts such as deposit accounts or currency accounts are not included. Your new bank should, nevertheless, be able to help you move these without difficulty.

Business Feature

Handelsbanken: Current Account Switching made easy

Finally, I would recommend you take a little time to familiarise yourself with the everyday services available to you from your new bank. For instance, the features of your new debit card, accessing your online and mobile banking services and the functionality available through these channels. That way, you will be in the best position to make the most of your new banking relationship right from the start. For more information about our Handelsbanken here in Sevenoaks and the account switching services we offer, please visit our website. BIZ News... 01732 667 250

Helping to get our young people into employment

Introducing The BIZ team:

We are absolutely delighted to be able to bring you a new facility in our town, The Business Innovation Zone located on Fircroft Way (known affectionately as The BIZ). Not only is this a fantastic facility for local businesses but it’s also a place where innovation really does take place, with a team of bright, enthuasitc young people working on their own projects and supporting not just local businesses but the community as well.

The all-seeing-eye at The BIZ. She secures funding for the centre, mentors the young people, and provides assistance to business start-ups too. If you need inspiration then Gill is full of it!

GILL HUMBLE

Firstly, it was through the dedication, and belief that Gill Humble of Target Your Potential saw a need for such a service in the Edenbridge area and through endless meetings, working with organisations such as the Kent Foundation, the local Eden Valley Chamber of Commerce and meetings with John Surtees to secure a building that the Business Innovation Zone was launched earlier this year and is a self sustainable social enterprise. Since it’s launch, there have been three young people successfully completing an ‘Employability Skills’ course enabling them to get work in the local area.

NAOMI PARRISH

Naomi is the queen of administration with two regular contracts already in place with the Eden Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Grant Rule Trust. Her duties include: managing emails, writing correspondence, making phone calls and taking meeting minutes. If your business could do with a little help then maybe Naomi could be just the office angel you are looking for.

JOSH CHURCH

Josh is the Trundle Advertising Project Manager who rides and maintains the Trundle Bikes you may have seen about town (espeically on market days, the busiest day for Trundle bookings).

businessinnovationzone.co.uk A large advertising board is attached to the Trundle Bike and Josh rides through Edenbridge to give maximum exposure to your advert. An economical way to advertise your products and services to a local audience.

BEVAN SENE

Bevan is a highly successful online selling site agent. If you’re having a clear out and have good items that could be worth a few pounds, why not drop them off at The BIZ and Bevan can organise the sale of your items through eBay and other site. You can either donate your items or Bevan can sell them on your behalf for a small fee, saving you the hassle of taking pictures, listing the items and finally organising posting once they have been sold.

FACILITIES FOR HIRE

The opening of the centre has been much welcomed already by many local businesses as well as the Eden Valley Chamber of Commerce. There is a conference room available to hire for larger meetings and training (WiFi and projector included) as well as smaller meeting rooms. If you would like to find out more about the facilities and services on offer then just get in touch!

The Edenbridge Directory is a proud sponsor of the Business Innovation Zone - a unique facility supporting young people, businesses and the local community of the Eden Valley area.

Nomads Football Club - the only Senior club in town in attendance. Although the social side to the club may not be as active as it was originally, the playing side is extremely busy and there are 3 teams training and playing matches regularly, including one under 21s side. Nomads Football Club 1961

It’s hard to believe that when it comes to adult football there is only one senior club left in Edenbridge, Nomads Football Club. The club was formed in 1961 and today there are still 4 out of the 5 founding members still around.

The club’s first ground was Four Elms Packers at Crockham Hill by permission of Mr Denis Greig and they have had to play at various locations over the years but now their home is firmly in place at Mowshurst (corner of Four Elms Road and Swan Lane). The old farm buildings which were originally there were converted by the club members and the existing clubhouse was built following a substantial grant from the Great Stone Bridge Trust. The club was originally set up as the founders wanted a local club which also included a social side, something not available in the area previously, and at their 25th Anniversary dinner there were over 100 people

Following a good season last year, they are keen to maintain the success into this season. The 1st team play in the Kent County Football League and the 2nd and 3rd teams in the Redhill & District League. The club are grateful to team sponsors - The Swan pub in Marlpit Hill for the 1st and 2nd teams and the under 21s (3rd team) are delighted to have received sponsorship from Go Vauxhall, recently receiving their new kit for the season. Members are also looking forward to a 55th Anniversary meal at the end of this current season. The club are always grateful for the support they receive from the local community. Ensuring funding is in place and there are enough volunteers to keep things running is a full time job for committee members in order to secure the club’s future. Nomads FC are always looking for help and volunteers. Perhaps you’d like to run the clubhouse bar on a voluntary basis? For more information contact Ken Cooper on 01732 862 489, email kencooper55@btinternet.com or follow the club on Facebook or Twitter.

Go Vauxhall for all your motoring needs... Station Road in Edenbridge has been home to a local Vauxhall dealership for many years and while there have been a number of changes at the site over the last few of those, such as consolidating the business into a single location, all the same range of services are still available.

Sales Manager Nathan Higginson and Aftersales Manager Mark Cooling are familiar faces to their regular customers having worked at the dealership previously when it was Whitmores of Edenbridge. When Go Vauxhall took over the site three years ago, they kept on many of the same staff who have spent years building their customer relationships and who are still delivering the high standard of service their customers are used to.

• Their highly trained and experienced Go Vauxhall team puts you first and is independently rated to ensure standards are kept high. • Go Vauxhall are authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority for your peace of mind. At the showroom in Station Road you’ll find the full range of brand new Vauxhall cars and light vans as well as a large stock of Network Q Approved Used vehicles. If you would like to arrange a test drive in any of their vehicles then it’s easy to arrange and Nathan and his team will be delighted to show you the latest models including the New Corsa, ADAM, Mokka, Astra, GTC, New Viva, Zafira Tourer, Insignia and more.

...and with a passion for the community Vauxhall range. Collection and delivery of your vehicle can also be organised, or a courtesy car for your use (subject to availability). Go Vauxhall are Vauxhall, Saab and Chevrolet authorised repairers and all repairs are guaranteed for 12 months. Repairs can be while-you-wait and the team are happy to provide no obligation free estimates on request. For Go Vauxhall it’s not just about what they offer in their showroom or service centre but they are keen to support the local community in and around Edenbridge. Nathan and the team hosted a networking event for the Eden Valley Chamber of Commerce over the summer to introduce themselves to other local businesses in the area and the event was a great success.

But it doesn’t end there as when Go Vauxhall first heard about the fantastic Edenbridge Motor Show that took place in September this year, they jumped at the chance to be the main event sponsor - so it was another day out with their vehicles and banners in tow where they had a stand by the motor show entrance - many of you probably remember seeing them.

Since coming to town three years ago, Go Vauxhall are proving to be a real asset to the Edenbridge community, not only as a car dealership, service and MOT centre but also with the support they are actively providing in our community. If you would like to visit the showroom it is open 7 days a week for your convenience.

Go Vauxhall are also proud sponsors of the Nomads Football team and presented the players with their smart new shirts at the start of their season.

Now that the nights are drawing in, Christmas is fast approaching. It is that time of year when adverts tell us that if we order now our new possessions will be with us in time for the festive season. You may already be buying your presents and online gifts. Maybe you have ordered the latest mobile gadget for your teenager, a new Xbox for your hubby, or upgraded your television for family and friends to gather round on Boxing Day. If so, you may have just made a burglar’s Christmas. In the penultimate Christmas week last year JPro Services was called out to several breakins in the local area. Christmas preparations for these families were turned upside down when thieves broke into their homes to try and steal cash, car keys, jewellery and other personal items. An attempted or successful break-in is an incredibly upsetting experience. We often find members of the public come to us for help after an attempted break-in, wanting the reassurance of installing an alarm or other security deterrents such as CCTV or security lights. We will always help anyone in this unthinkable scenario, but we would rather help you prevent it from happening in the first instance. JPro is here to help, providing you with the opportunity to protect your home and belongings and, more importantly, prevent your preparations for the 2015 festive season being thrown into disarray. Perhaps you have an alarm and you just don’t bother setting it anymore, or maybe you have been put off by the cost of installation and maintenance. A basic alarm kit can start from as little £600.00, with annual fees for most domestic properties costing just £99.00inc VAT. We are offering Edenbridge Directory readers an additional 5% discount when quoting EDEN. Don’t grant the burglars their Christmas wishes this year. The only person who should be coming down your chimney is Santa! Call the JPro Services team on 01732 356242 or visit www.jproservices.co.uk for more information. The Edenbridge Galleries and Friends of Edenbridge Hospital serve up a winner of a fundraiser! At a special Valuation Day at the Edenbridge Galleries last month, Antiques expert Lennox Cato invited members of the public to bring along their items to be valued for a small charge in aid of the Edenbridge & District War Memorial Hospital. With a little help from the Friends of Edenbridge Hospital who ran a vintage style pop-up tea room at the Galleries, a total of £809.95 was raised from the valuations, tea room sales and donations on the day. The Barrister Broker - reducing your legal costs We’re now in October and Christmas isn’t too far away – my how this year has flown by! I have attended plenty of local events since my last article, most notably the Fun Day at Stangrove Park and the hugely successful Edenbridge Motor Show last month. What a great event that was with so many magnificent cars on display, a real party atmosphere and the sun was shining too – fantastic! I hear that next year’s show is going to be even bigger!

But back to my day job as The Barrister Broker and how I help people significantly reduce their legal costs…

take longer than the person who is experienced and works efficiently! “Fixed Fee” services are slowly becoming more available throughout the legal profession although I would say this is predominantly down to consumer demand rather than anything else. If you are offered a fixed fee service you need to know exactly what you are getting for your fixed fee. Don’t be shy about asking questions of the legal advisor you are dealing with. For example, is the legal advisor a qualified solicitor or legal executive? Will the legal advisor do the work him or herself or will it be done by a trainee? If your matter is likely to be contested, i.e. following the breakdown of a marriage/ relationship you and your spouse/ex-partner can’t agree how the assets of the marriage/ relationship will be split (who gets what), ask the legal advisor what experience they have in dealing with these types of disputes? If your case is likely to go to court, will this person represent you in court? If not, why not? If they will, ask them what trial experience they have as an advocate? You need to know who you are dealing with before you commit to putting your case and investing your money in this person’s hands. Do not assume that just because a person is a qualified lawyer that makes them right for your case. Do your due diligence and ask the right questions!

I regularly receive enquiries from people who either have or have had a solicitor acting for them but who have become disillusioned with the legal process because of a lack of progress, increasing legal costs or no end in sight. By this point they are becoming emotionally exhausted, frustrated with the legal profession and feeling at a loss as to how they can regain control of their situation and make the most of any additional legal spend. This is precisely where I can help so if this sounds like you or someone you know, make a note of my number at the bottom of this page and give me a call! I help people avoid the cost of solicitors by providing them with an alternative way to If you are contemplating using a legal advisor, deal with their legal issues as quickly and costbeware of “free” consultation offers. “Legal effectively as possible; by facilitating the direct expertise” does not come free nor is it cheap services of Barristers - the legal experts. so don’t be hoodwinked into thinking you are going to get expert legal advice for nothing or I am based in Edenbridge and can be contacted on the cheap! Many legal advisors still charge on 01732 866 562. for their time by hourly rate (often after the “free” meeting!). The obvious flaw with hourly rate billing is that the inexperienced and www.thebarristerbroker.com inefficient cost more because they undoubtedly
