Jesus Christ “Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today and forever” Hebrews 13:8

[Session 2] Introduction In the previous study we explored God’s great plan to rescue humanity. The light of this good news is the knowledge of the glory of God, as demonstrated and revealed in the personality of Jesus Christ and his work on the cross, the greatest demonstration of love the world has ever seen (John 3:16) (Ephesians 5:2) (1 John 3:16).

Who is Jesus Christ? -‐ -‐ -‐

He is the Son of God (John 3:16) and Lord of all (Romans 14:9) (Acts 10:36). Jesus is fully God and fully man (John1:1, 14). He is the giver of life (John 10:10) and Saviour of the world (1John 4:10-14).

What is God’s solution to humanity’s problem? -‐ -‐ -‐

God established that a sacrifice was required to pay the price of sin (Leviticus 9:7) and that the shedding of innocent blood could pay for sin (Leviticus 17:11). The Old Testament describes how a goat was killed once a year on “The Day of Atonement” (Leviticus 16:20-23) to pay for the sins of God’s people (Israel). The goat’s blood ‘covered’ their sin for that year (Leviticus 16:30). God’s ultimate plan was to wash our sins away forever and so Jesus Christ came to be a perfect sacrifice for our sins (Hebrews 10:1-14)

[Session 2] [Session 2]

Jesus Christ What has Jesus done and what should we do? -‐ -‐ -‐ -‐

His life showed us God (John 14:8-11) and gave us an example to follow (John 13:14-7). His death saved us from our sin (Hebrews 9:26-28) and made a way back to God (Colossians 1:15-20). His resurrection finally destroyed Satan’s work (1 John 3:8) (Hebrews 2:14-15) We need to confess our sins (1 John 1:8-10), believe what Jesus has done for us and submit to him as Lord of our lives (Romans 10:9-10).

What happens to us when we believe? -‐ -‐

-‐

We are forgiven (1 John 1:9) and our sins are dealt with (Psalm 103:12). We are ‘born again’, a process of spiritual transformation from darkness to light (John 3:3) (Colossians 1:13) with a brand new start in life 2 Corinthians 5:16-17). We become children of God (John 1:12-13) living life to the full here on earth (John 10:10) (Romans 5:17) with the blessing of eternal life with God in heaven (John 3:16).

Conclusion The great thing for us is that we can choose to receive Jesus into our life, and experience His love and forgiveness right now (2 Corinthians 6:2).
