eeting Santi Millán is like seeing an old friend again. Twenty years after first seeing him at the Teatro de Ripollet in The Cuban, Santi appears busier and more alive than ever before. Having appeared in countless TV series, programs, movies, radio shows and theater productions over the past two decades, Santi is now involved in two exciting new projects at Parc del Clot in Barcelona, during a break we chat and play cards. The first project is “Voces X1 Fin: Together for Mali”, an initiative that involves his production company, Zoopa, and in which he performs a daring duet with Spanish rock band Hombres G. The second is “Bruc”, the latest movie from Spanish filmmaker Daniel Benmayor that premieres on December 31 and which stars, among others, Santi, Juan José Spring and Vincent Pérez. With a budget of €5.4 million, the epic film focuses on the legend of the Catalan drummer boy “Bruc” during the Spanish civil war, and is sure to be a major hit with cinema audiences.
would like to play more evil figures (he laughs).” Most of Bruc is set outside and as an actor more used to working indoors in studios or theaters, how did you find these scenes and were they gruelling? “It was a very testing process on a physical level but the film’s outdoor scenes are incredible and shooting in these types of environment is harder on the crew than the actors due to conditions and access difficulties. There were some tough moments as this character as with all the weapons, explosions, falls and horses – it was like they were trying to kill us! (he laughs). The great thing about movies is that all that hard work and effort is polished and edited for the final version and then you see that all that sweat has been worthwhile.” Another aspect of your career is Voces X1 Fin: Together for Mali. We all recall your hard work in the Sahara Desert for the first edition of Voces X1 FIN, how pleased were you with the result? “It was a stupendous experience that generated so many memorable moments and we passed the test and achieved our objective. Our aim was to solve the problem of lactation in newborn babies in the Sahara by purchasing female camels that can produce milk for human consumption. Babies in the region cannot drink powdered milk because of contaminated water so the camels provide them with milk and the necessary vitamins and serve as a means of transport.”

This year the project is based in Mali, tell us more about what we can expect? “Voces X1 Fin: Together for Mali involves different artists who have joined forces and united to build a school for children aged between 12 and 16 years-of-age in Kalaban-Coro who currently receive little education. Only 7% of Malian boys and girls attend secondary school as they do not value education as a way of finding work. This center will combine basic teaching methods with artistic subjects as music, photography, movies. theater, and so on.” So the center will facilitate education and human development through culture? “This cultural education project aims to guarantee the fundamental right to education and provide young people with the tools and knowledge to exit the cycle of poverty. The center also aims to promote music, art, dance, film and other such cultural skills, which in Mali – as in other developing countries – will not create jobs and wealth but are essential in functioning societies and help generate democratic thoughts.” Thank you Santi and everyone at BARCELONA Deluxe wishes you all the best with the imminent release of Bruc, and we congratulate everyone involved in Vocces X1 Fin: Together for Mali. Bruc is a legend in Catalonia, do you think this new film will change our view of this famous character? “I think it’s a movie that will really surprise people. It is an epic adventure movie that is full of action. My character is an evil renegade that has something about him that will catch people’s attention and hook them. I have never played the bad guy before and after such a merciless role, I
