History Concord's history dates back over 200 years. Back in the late 1700's, it seems there was a disagreement between the German and Scots-Irish settlements in the area over exactly where the County seat of the newly formed county of Cabarrus should be located. A compromise was eventually reached, and the new city was founded in 1796 on a 26 acre site. The city was named Concord, meaning "harmony," to reflect the spirit in which the issue was settled. When you look at Concord today and see the wonderful mixture of progress and heritage, the perfect blend of business, industrial, and residential life, you can see that Concord still embodies the meaning of its name - "harmony."
Downtown Concord Within a radius of two city blocks you have two live theaters, a museum, two art galleries, a library, a gourmet French chocolate shop, a pottery studio where members have access 24/7 to enjoy their craft, an up-and coming university, a botanical garden, a pedestrian greenway system, and much more, all nestled within a wonderful offering of specialty shops and a variety of restaurants where you can enjoy something as simple as a cup of soup and a grilled cheese sandwich to a full four-course gourmet meal.
Where Racing Lives Concord is the home to Charlotte Motor Speedway, a NASCAR Research and Development Office, and several professional race teams, including Hendrick Motorsports, Roush Fenway Racing, Richard Petty Motorsports, and Earnhardt Ganassi Racing.
A Great Place to Live Although it enjoys many of the advantages of small town life, Concord has continued to be a progressive community. According to the North Carolina State Demographer's Office, Concord is the twelfth largest city in North Carolina.[5] The city was also a winner of the All-America City Award in 2004. Located near the center of Cabarrus County, it is twenty miles northeast of Uptown Charlotte.

Frank Liske Park 4001 Stough Rd, Concord Playground
Located in the central part of Cabarrus County, this beautiful 238 acre park used to be a working farm for Stonewall Jackson Training School. The land was leased to the county for the development of the first County Park. The park was named in honor of Mr. Frank Liske, who worked at Stonewall Jackson Training School for 48 years and was instrumental in acquiring the land for lease from the state.
Miniature Golf
Park amenities include a 10 acre lake for fishing and paddle boating, picnic shelters, picnic sites, horseshoe pits, volleyball courts, playgrounds, and 6 lighted tennis courts. Additional amenities include an 11 field soccer complex with 2 lighted fields, a 4-field lighted softball complex, walking and fitness trails, a nature trail, and an 8 hole miniature golf course. The soccer complex is operated in cooperation with FC Carolina Alliance and the City of Concord Parks and Recreation Department. Additionally, Frank Liske Park is managed as a wildlife and nature preserve to the area's natural resources.
Amphitheater
The #1 shopping destination of the Carolinas and one of North Carolina’s most popular visitor attractions, Concord Mills features over 200 stores including manufacturer and retail outlets, off-price retailers and unique specialty stores. The center is further enhanced by an oval racetrack layout and dynamic architecture reflective of the Carolinas.
A 24-screen state-of-the-art AMC Theatre and interactive retailers, including a NASCAR themed fun park, are also a part of the shopping experience!
