BIG LIFE. BIG STAGE. BIG TEN.

Tipoff After three weeks of the new season, four conference teams remain undefeated and two others have dropped just one contest. Last week, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Penn State and Wisconsin each took part in various holiday tournaments with the Hawkeyes and Wildcats enjoying undefeated road trips. Ahead this week, the Big Ten will take part in two challenge events with other conferences. On Wednesday and Thursday, the Big Ten will face the ACC in the fourth annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge, while the Big Ten/Big 12 Challenge will resume on Sunday. This week, 13 conference matchups will be broadcast to a national audience on ESPN2, the Big Ten Network or online at www.bigtennetwork.com. Where We Rank Six Big Ten teams were mentioned in the Associated Press or ESPN/USA Today Coaches polls, including three among the top 25. The Buckeyes moved up to No. 6 this week in both polls, Iowa jumped to No. 18 in the AP and ESPN/USA Today rankings, and Michigan State is ranked No. 25 by both polling services. Northwestern, Penn State, and Purdue are also receiving votes outside the top 25 in one or both polls this week. Keeping the Streak Going Ohio State senior Jantel Lavender entered her final season having scored in double-figures in each game she has played in during her career. That streak has continued thus far in 2010-11, as she has now scored 10 or more points in 107 straight contests – the longest active streak in the nation.

FOLLOW ALONG Followers of Big Ten women’s basketball have several ways to keep track of the conference this season. Updates can be found at the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Blog (http://www.bigten.org/blog/womens-basketball/), and real-time alerts can be seen by logging on to Twitter and following @BigTenConf and @BigTenDan.

BIG TEN. BIG NEWS. Renewing One Challenge… This week, the Big Ten will face off against the ACC in the fourth annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Games are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday with six contests to be played on Big Ten campuses, each of which will be broadcast by the Big Ten Network or streamed online at www.bigtennetwork.com. Four games will be contested on Wednesday, with the remaining seven to be played on Thursday. The ACC has won the first three challenges. This year’s schedule can be found on Page 1 of this release. …And Starting Another In addition to the challenge with the ACC, Big Ten teams will take on opponents from the Big 12 Conference in the inaugural Big Ten/Big 12 Challenge. Ten interconference matchups will take place this weekend, beginning with Illinois visiting Colorado on Saturday. The challenge, the first season of an initial two-year agreement between the conferences, began on Nov. 21 with Wisconsin falling to Kansas in an overtime thriller. While the majority of the contests will be held on Sunday, the challenge will end on Dec. 9 when Purdue visits Texas A&M. National Leaders Three weeks into the season and the Big Ten is making its presence felt in national statistical leaders. Conference teams rank among the top 10 nationally in numerous statistical categories. Penn State is fourth in three-pointers per game (9.0) and 10th in scoring (85.1 ppg), Michigan State is eighth in three-point field-goal percent (.432) and ninth in three-pointers per game (8.5), Ohio State is seventh in field-goal percentage (.490), and Purdue is 10th in free-throw percentage (.798), just to name a few. Individually, several standouts rank among the top 10. Ohio State’s Jantel Lavender is fifth in points (25.0 ppg), Northwestern’s Amy Jaeschke is sixth in blocks per game (3.5) and Penn State’s Zhaque Gray is ninth in the country in 3-pointers per game (3.6). Unprecedented TV This season, Big Ten women’s basketball will enjoy extensive broadcast coverage, as more than 90 percent of home games will be produced for a national audience. Through media agreements with the Big Ten Network, CBS Sports and ESPN, Big Ten women’s basketball will be broadcast to a national television audience approximately 65 times, with numerous more games to be produced nationally on www.bigtennetwork.com. Big Ten Tournament Primetime Once again each game of the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament will be televised live to a national audience. The first nine games will be televised by the Big Ten Network, while the tournament final will be televised live by ESPN2. The Big Ten Network will continue to have a presence at the tournament, with a courtside studio to provide onsite analysis during the tournament. Home Again in Indiana The 2011 Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament will once again call Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis home. It is the 16th time in 17 years the Circle City will play host to the annual event, and the 10th straight year the women’s tournament will take place in Indianapolis. The Big Ten is in the fourth year of a five-year agreement with Indianapolis to serve as the

host city for the annual men’s and women’s postseason events. The women’s tournament will begin on Thursday, March 3 and culminate with the tournament championship game on Sunday, March 7. A Familiar Site The conference’s women’s basketball teams’ ultimate goal at the end of the season is the 2011 NCAA Women’s Final Four, to be held at a very familiar site. Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, home of the 2011 Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament, will serve as the site for the final games of the 2010-11 season. The Circle City has served as the host site of the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament for the past 10 seasons.
