STEPS TO YOUR WEDDING DAY SCHEDULE Pure Living

Creating a wedding day schedule can seem like a daunting task. Couples tend to have lots of things to do before saying “I do, and organizing everything so ceremonies begin on time can seem as puzzling as a brain teaser. But certain scheduling strategies can help ensure they look their best and make it to the altar on time.

Start with the ceremony. Establish a framework for your wedding day by working back from the ceremony. Once the ceremony time is set, couples who plan to take photos before their ceremonies can work with their photographers to determine how much time is needed for photos and where to take them. Confirm when the wedding venue is open to the wedding party. Before booking hair and makeup appointments, confirm when you will be able to access your wedding venue. Brides may want to get their hair and makeup done at the ceremony sight, but that may only be possible if the venue opens early for the wedding party. If it does not, then you must account for transportation time to the ceremony sight when making your wedding day schedules.

Weddings that feature large bridal parties will require more time for hair and makeup than ceremonies with small bridal parties. Grooms and groomsmen often take care of their own hair, though some grooms might want to schedule hot shaves for themselves and their groomsmen. Grooms should ask groomsmen if they want a hot shave and then work with their barbers to determine how much time it will take to tend to all participants. Brides with large bridal parties may need to book more than two hair and makeup artists so everyone can get done on time. Wedding hair and makeup sessions can last several hours for large bridal parties, so brides should schedule their sessions early if their parties are big.

Make lunch arrangements. Some couples choose to tie the knot and host their receptions at the same venue. In such instances, if brides are getting their hair and makeup done at the venue, ask the venue representative if lunch can be provided to the bridal party. Some venues may include small lunch buffets in their reception costs, while others might charge extra. Confirm the availability and costs, and if it’s unavailable or too expensive, then arrange for lunch to be delivered. Either way, couples should not skip lunch, as it may be their only chance to eat until after the ceremony.

the wedding day schedule has been devised, couples should share it with each other and their wedding parties. Grooms’ wedding day to-do lists might not be as extensive as brides’, but grooms should still be kept in the loop regarding the schedule so they can help if anyone has questions or if something goes awry. Sharing the schedule with the wedding party decreases the chances of someone being late or missing an appointment. Couples can solve the riddle of scheduling their wedding days by working backwards and asking their vendors to cooperate in laying out the day’s events.

In case of rain… wedding insurance

Wedding insurance can provide couples who are about to tie the knot with some peace of mind on their big days. Many wedding venues require couples carry liability coverage in the case of accidents, injuries or incidents. But wedding insurance policies may even surprise couples with regard to what they cover. Each policy is different, and couples may be able to customize wedding insurance policies to cover a host of items. Many policies cover couples in the wake of cancellations or postponements due to weather, damage to the facility or even a change of heart on the part of the couple holding the policy. But some policies may provide coverage for couples should their photographers and/or caterers fail to appear. Policies may also cover lost, stolen or damaged items, including equipment rentals, bridal growns, jewelry, and/or gifts. Couples should speak with their wedding venue representative to determine if the venue offers extended coverage and ultimately compare those offerings to policy estimates they receive on their own.

Religious officiants may be governed by certain rules that restrict them to performing ceremonies in a house of worship, which might rule them out for couples who want outdoor or destination weddings. Couples should inquire about such restrictions as early as possible in the planning process so they aren’t caught off guard.

For example, couples who grew up attending a particular church might choose the priest who’s been preaching to them since they were children, while others might choose the priest at their current place of worship.

such as a judge or justice of the peace. Many couples who are planning destination weddings abroad still choose to have a civil officiant perform a wedding ceremony at home. This is because some overseas officiants may not be authorized to marry couples in their home countries, meaning their marriages won’t be recognized once they return home. Civil officiants make sure marriages are legal, and they also make great options for couples who just want to get hitched without a grand ceremony.

That makes them great choices for couples who aren’t religious as well as those who come from different religious backgrounds and won’t be converting to the same faith. Professional officiants typically meet with a couple once or twice to get to know them before writing the speech they will give during the ceremony. Many will share the speech with the couple in advance of the big day, and some even allow couples to write the speech.

Couples who want to take this route should research local laws to determine the steps loved ones must take to become ordained ministers who will be recognized by the state or country where the ceremony will take place. Officiants play a significant role during a wedding, and couples can choose one who best fits their personalities and ceremony preferences.

As engaged couples compile their guest lists, many might realize their friends and family are spread out across the country, if not the world. Technology has made it easier than ever before to stay connected to faraway loved ones, and engaged couples no doubt have a handful of guests on their lists who will need lodging when the wedding weekend arrives. Many hotels cater to wedding guests, so finding a hotel should not be too difficult. However, finding the right hotel requires couples to consider a host of factors.

Location: Location is arguably the most important consideration when choosing a wedding hotel. Hotels that are close to transportation hubs such as airports or train stations will be a welcome relief to guests who traveled far and wide to make it to your wedding. But hotels located in close proximity to your ceremony and reception sites will also be appreciated, especially come the end of the reception when guests who danced the night away will want to return to the hotel as quickly as possible. If the wedding reception is far from the

Attractions: Attractions are another important factor to consider when choosing a hotel for your wedding guests. Brides- and grooms-to-be will be busy throughout the weekend, but wedding guests who arrive in town on Friday for a Saturday ceremony will have lots of free time on their hands. Unless your wedding weekend is intended to be a weekend retreat for you and your guests, try to find a hotel in a lively neighborhood with plenty of nearby attractions so guests have something to do in the days and hours before the wedding. Cost: Many hotels offer discounted rates to wedding guests, so couples should expect to do some negotiating before making a final decision regarding their wedding hotels. Travel is expensive, so if your list includes a lot of out-of-town guests, try to find the most affordable rate without settling for unsightly accommodations. Guests will appreciate the cost savings, and some might be more inclined to attend the wedding if the lodging is a bargain.

Transportation: Another thing to consider when arranging lodging for out-of-town guests is transportation to and from the wedding. Many hotels offer shuttle service for wedding guests, which can save guests the added expense of renting cars to get around on the day of the wedding. Couples may need to foot the bill for hotel shuttle service, though some hotels include the service if enough guests book under a certain wedding party. Some hotels even offer airport shuttle service, which can save guests even more money. Couples hosting many out-of-town guests for their weddings should do their best to find a hotel that’s affordable, accommodating and close to their wedding venues.

Wedding transportation options abound, and some are more popular than others. The following are some of the ways couples are getting to the altar on time. Shuttles & buses: Investing in the guest experience means couples are seeking ways to provide comfort and convenience for their guests and wedding party members. Rather than asking guests to get themselves to and fro, couples may employ buses or shuttles stocked with amenities to transport a greater number of people. Exotic limousines: The chauffeurdriven limousine continues to be one of the most popular methods of transportation. However, to set their weddings apart, couples are trending away from traditional stretch limousines and renting something more trendy, such as limos built upon sports cars. Vintage cars: For that A-list look right out of a classic movie, stepping out of a vintage vehicle creates red-carpet moments. Dream cars for this type of glamorous arrival and departure include Rolls Royce, Bentley, Aston Martin and others. Many private companies rent classic vehicles. Couples also may contract with those who attend classic car shows.

Wedding transportation trends

Water transport: Couples celebrating by the ocean, a lake or a river can make a grand entrance aboard a vessel. Water taxis, pontoon boats and even sleek speedboats may be the transportation of choice. The more exotic the transportation option, the earlier couples should make their decisions to ensure they can book their first choice.

Destination weddings offer a getaway during winter and a vacation from traditional ceremonies

Where it’s warmer

By Emilee Wentland, Leader-Telegram staff

The morning of Samantha Breuer’s wedding day, it was pouring rain all throughout her breakfast date with her husband-to-be, Jim. Understandably upset about the poor weather, she was crying through most of her meal. Later, the Eau Claire woman sat on the beach alongside her father, who told her to cheer up because the weather was sure to get better. It was Jamaica, after all, he said. Despite the less-than-pleasant weather in the morning, the wedding ceremony went off without a hitch, Breuer said. The sun came out in time for the afternoon ceremony, where the couple exchanged their vows, which they wrote themselves.

DesJarlais, a travel agent at Higgins Travel Leaders in Eau Claire. And, at a usually less expensive rate than a traditional wedding, they’re only getting more popular, she said.

Breuer is one of many modern brides who chose to leave the country and head to the beach for her wedding rather than staying home.

Breuer, along with her husband and 60 members of their family and friends, celebrated her wedding three years ago at the Iberostar Rose Hall Beach resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Destination weddings are rising in popularity throughout the country and in the Chippewa Valley, said Heidi

From experience attending friends’ weddings, they knew they didn’t want a church wedding. The couple also

12 Leader-Telegram Winter 2019 Her impressions

didn’t want to spend a lot of money on just one day. “When we got married, all of our friends had been through the song and dance of church weddings and it’s just one day. You’re spending thousands and thousands of dollars for one day of your life,” Breuer said. “We decided that we wanted all of our friends in one place and we wanted to go on vacation with them and get married while we were there. So it was a weeklong party, for the most part.”

‘It’s different’ Overall, Breuer said they chose a destination wedding over a traditional one because of the simplicity of the planning process, affordability of the trip and desire for their wedding to be unique. These are common reasons for going with a destination wedding, DesJarlais said. Rather than paying tens of thousands of dollars on a single day, couples are opting to pay less than

that on an entire week at an all-inclusive resort — many of which will do a complimentary wedding ceremony. Additionally, the experience of a destination wedding is typically unusual and exciting compared to a traditional one, DesJarlais said. “It’s different,” she said. “They want to do something different, and the different thing is not doing the traditional wedding at home and flying somewhere and doing it.” Typically, travel agents will help book flights, resorts and guide couples through the process of choosing where to go. From there, they’ll hand the decisions off to the couple and their wedding planner. The couple then can hand off the agent’s contact information to their guests — if they choose to bring any — so they can get their trips booked, too. “So their guests contact me to book. The good thing about our tour companies now is that we have flexibility in booking guests,” DesJarlais siad. “So guests can fly out different dates than the bride and groom, they can fly out of different airports, they can stay in different room categories, but still remain part of the group.” DesJarlais has eight weddings booked for 2019, which she said is more than average, as she usually has about five or six a year. One of the many weddings she’s booked was the Breuer wedding in 2016. Her clients typically go to Riviera Maya, Mexico; various beaches in Jamaica and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The requirements for a legal wedding ceremony in the Caribbean are easier than that of Mexico, DesJarlais said, so people typically gravitate toward there. Mexico requires a blood test as well as four witnesses present to get married, cont. on pg 15

While planning a wedding inevitably involves some obstacles and even some stress, planning a destination wedding presents a unique set of obstacles. Before couples commit to a destination wedding, it’s important to first consider a few factors to ensure knots get tied without a hitch.

Pick a meaningful location (but one that works for

guests, too). Exchanging vows at a favorite hiking spot can give guests an inside view into what makes you tick as a couple, but the location of the ceremony should not come at the expense of practicality. Choose a locale that speaks to you but will also offer the convenience and amenities that work for the guests who will be traveling.

See the place in person. If budget allows, book a trip to the intended destination to see the facilities and location. Working with vendors in person can also simplify sorting out certain details. Send save-the-date cards promptly. Unlike traditional weddings in which reminders can be sent roughly six months before the wedding, save-the-date cards for destination weddings should be mailed at least nine months to a year in advance of the big day.

Things to consider

Beth Krzysik, a travel agent for AAA Eau Claire, said it’s important for couples to consider what they want for their wedding.

Despite the fact that they had their wedding on a Jamaican beach, Breuer said her ceremony was just like any other wedding.

“Do (they) want it at a busier resort or a busier island or do (they) want more secluded,” said Krzysik, who has assisted in planning five destination weddings. “The island is key — where you’re feeling most comfortable and most in-tune with in what island.”

“The only thing that was different is that there was less people and that it was in another country and that it was on a beach and not in a church,” she said.

Another thing to consider is the budget. Destination weddings are easily customizable, depending on which resort and island you choose, Krzysik said, so a destination wedding can easily be done on almost any budget.

Breuer and her agent both agreed that when planning a destination wedding, the time of year is one of the most important things to consider. If it’s winter in, say, Wisconsin, people are more willing to attend a wedding in a warm climate.

Destination weddings typically cost less than a traditional wedding, plus they last longer than just a typical daylong event.

“You can have a nice vacation — it’s a wedding and a honeymoon all in one,” Krzysik said. “I’ve had brides stay at one resort and then move to a different resort for their honeymoon away from their guests so they can connect as a couple. And that’s all fluid, so we can really do what they want to do.” For those who were unable to attend the ceremony in Montego Bay, Breuer said, they had a reception in Chippewa Falls, where 300 people celebrated with them. This way, Breuer said, it was almost like they had two weddings. “For a lot of ladies, the wedding is like the biggest day of their life and they look forward to it. And once it’s gone, it’s like poof! It’s gone,” she said. “Well for us … we had that reception, so it’s almost like we had the wedding all over again. I would not have done the wedding any other way.”

Hire a professional. Professional wedding planners may prove invaluable when it comes to destination weddings. Rather than organizing everything on your own, you can hire a wedding planner to take care of itineraries, obtain information about necessary travel documents, coordinate with local vendors, and much more.

Consider tourist seasons. Weather tends to be best during tourist seasons. Therefore, make sure to reserve hotel room blocks and venues promptly. Slightly before or after peak season may still be fine, but ensure that vendors will be available and look into weather trends carefully before choosing a date. Research the legality. Many countries have residency

requirements, which means you must live in that country for a certain period of time before the ceremony. Factor this into budget and availability.

Scale back on DIY. Handling many of the details while getting married close to home can be challenging, but doing so for a destination wedding can be difficult to organize. Scale back on DIY, leaving many of the details to the professionals.

Popular destination wedding locales Dominican Republic: Home to 800 miles of sandy beaches, the Dominican Republic features a host of allinclusive resorts, many of which offer wedding packages. Couples who want to tie the knot under the warm sun need look no further than the Dominican Republic, which boasts average temperatures in the 70s and 80s year-round. Costa Rica: A popular honeymoon destination, Costa

Rica also makes a great place to host a tropical wedding. Couples can take advantage of stunning mountaintop

views or enjoy their weddings on any of Costa Rica’s many white sand beaches. Dense rain forests, numerous nature preserves and national parks make Costa Rica a great place for guests to explore, especially during the dry season between December and April (rain falls throughout the year on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica).

Maine: Couples who want waterfront weddings with a little something different may want to consider Maine. Lighthouses might provide the perfect backdrop for couples’ nuptials, and guests can indulge in fresh lobster and various outdoor activities. Maine’s tourist season is July and August, but Maine’s famous fall foliage can be used to create a beautiful look for couples who tie the knot in September. Jackson Hole, Wyoming: Another destination that

won’t require couples or their guests to dust off their passports, Jackson Hole is nestled in the awe-inspiring Teton mountain range. Summer and early fall are the best times to tie the knot in Jackson Hole, which is home to numerous rustic ranches that can make for ideal wedding settings.

Ireland: Couples who don’t mind a rain shower here or there may want to tie the knot in Ireland, where weather is usually most welcoming between May and September. Idyllic seaside villages dot the Irish landscape, as do rolling green hills and towering cliffs that can make for beautiful backdrops for wedding ceremonies. Castles can be found throughout Ireland, giving couples unique spaces to host their weddings and receptions.

Tips for choosing a honeymoon destination Statistics vary in regard to how much couples spend on their honeymoons, but those heading overseas can expect to pay thousands of dollars on such getaways. Couples planning their honeymoons want to get the most for their money while also ensuring their first trip together as newlyweds is as memorable as possible.

Africa/Summer

Activity level

Some couples might want their honeymoons to be filled with activities, while others might prefer more low-key trips spent relaxing at seaside resorts. Couples can discuss which types of trips they prefer and be willing to compromise if their desires differ.

Travel

Some couples may prefer to travel throughout their honeymoons, while others may want to stay at the same resort for the duration of their trips. Couples who want to travel may find a backpacking trip to Europe is a romantic way to indulge their sense of adventure, while those who prefer something more quiet may find a beach resort more to their liking.

Budget

Because honeymoons can be expensive, couples who don’t want to sacrifice on their first trip together as a married couple can begin planning their trips early, even looking for ways to cut costs on their ceremonies and receptions if their honeymoons are a bigger priority. When planning their honeymoons, couples also can take steps to save money. For example, delaying a trip until a few months after the wedding can help couples get back on their financial feet and enjoy their dream getaways. Couples visiting resorts also may want to opt for all-inclusive packages, which can provide great value, particularly on food and beverages. 18 Leader-Telegram Winter 2019 Her impressions

Exceptional Venue for an Extraordinary Event!

In a new survey, travel advisors from Travel Leaders Group name the best destinations throughout the year…

A gorgeous, versatile historic building that is perfect for any occasion!

In the spring, consider places like Greece and southern Italy. Temperatures will be warm, but you’ll avoid the summertime heat, as well as the crowds, as you discover charming towns along Italy’s Amalfi Coast or Athens’ ancient monuments, like the Parthenon.

For couples with a safari on their bucket list, summer is the perfect time for a trip to Africa. In July, one of the biggest events in the natural world takes place — the migration of the wildebeest at Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. The aweinspiring display draws lots of wildlife, including lions, leopards and cheetahs. Honeymooners who can’t decide between a beach vacation and exploring one of Europe’s great cities can do both in Spain in August. The island of Majorca offers plenty of sunshine and beaches. It’s only a 45-minute flight from Barcelona — a beautiful city known for its art and architecture.

Couples can save money and beat the crowds with a fall trip to a popular destination like Croatia. The country offers everything from beaches to markets and castles. Be sure to spend time in the historic port city of Dubrovnik, one of the places where HBO’s “Game of Thrones” is filmed.

“WE WE CAN DO” DO

For a fall honeymoon closer to home, it’s a great season to visit San Francisco. Spend a few days in the City by the Bay and take a romantic road trip along the coast for breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. Or, spend some time in the wineries of Napa Valley. Couples who don’t mind bundling up can enjoy a winter honeymoon in Scandinavia. Shop for gifts at Christmas markets in Stockholm or Copenhagen in December. In Finland, combine a few days in Helsinki with a trip to Lapland to see the reindeer and view the northern lights. Winter is a prime time to visit the Caribbean. The weather is warm and there’s less rain. Top honeymoon destinations include St. Lucia, with its dramatic landscape of rainforests and waterfalls, as well as dreamy beaches and a variety of luxury accommodations.

GET THE MOST OUT OF BRIDAL SHOWS & WEDDING EVENTS Start small. If the idea of large crowds is unappealing, attend the more intimate, boutique shows that are often held at local reception halls and restaurants instead of the larger installations at convention centers and hotels. Scout out vendors. Check the bridal show’s website for lists of exhibitors and see if your desired vendors are on the list. But even if they’re not, keep an open mind and use the show as a chance to compare offerings. If an event map is available, marking off must-visit booths can help save time. Pre-register. Pre-registering for

bridal events saves time at check-in, and doing so may make you eligible for discounted tickets.

Come prepared. Chances are

each vendor is going to ask couples for information so that they can follow up with a phone call or email with more detailed offerings and estimates. Couples attending the show can expediate the process by coming equipped with labels that feature their names, contact information and wedding date. They can then stick the labels on sign-in sheets or use them like business cards.

Recently engaged couples may be excited to get a jump on wedding planning. Bridal shows can be a great way for couples to meet and familiarize themselves with local wedding professionals, while also introducing themselves to the terminology of wedding planning. Bridal shows are a great source of information, contacts and samples, but can also be a bit overwhelming. Learning how to maximize time spent at shows can help couples plan more efficiently.

Dress comfortably.

Bridal expos involve a lot of walking and roaming around. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Consider a backpack or hands-free bag so you are not weighed down when collecting the swag and other handouts throughout the day.

Ask questions.

When face-to-face with vendors, rely on their expertise but don’t hesitate to ask questions concerning themes, colors, recommendations for honeymoon locations, invitation paper suggestions, and much more.

Stay for the fashion show. Many shows will

offer a runway experience to present the latest gown and tuxedo offerings. This can be an entertaining way for couples to formulate their wedding styles.

Wedding shows introduce couples to vendors and set them on the path to making decisions regarding the planning of their weddings.

TRAVEL MORE Reduce travel related stress triggers

The U.S. Department of Labor Statistics indicates that more than half of all American workers are not using all of their vacation days, equalling $224 billion in cash value, according to Oxford Economics, an economic analysis firm. However, many workers today are resolving to spend more time with their spouses and children or engage in recreational activities. As such, traveling more is the goal of many individuals and families.

Air travel with kids The magic of flying has enamored adventurers since Daedalus took to the skies with handmade wings and the Wright brothers tested their preliminary aircraft in the fields of North Carolina.

Although people eagerly await their vacations, for some the idea of getting away is marred by the prospect of things going awry or the stress of travel itself. To make travel easier, Time Management Ninja as well as WebMD suggest devising strategies to relieve stress.

Still, many parents have reservations about flying with children. Parents may worry about kids being restless or causing a commotion in-flight. Some may even be concerned about youngsters getting sick when far from home.

Make lists

While these are possibilities, oftentimes parents’ concerns are unfounded. In fact, with some planning, flying with kids can be simple.

Start by making a checklist of what to pack and what to bring. Cross-reference the checklist with what suitcases and bags the items have been stashed in. Begin the packing process several days before leaving for a trip, only leave out the essential items necessary for getting ready the day of departure. In addition, make another list of which bags need to be brought along. Place those bags by the front door so nothing will be forgotten.

Build in extra time

According to the Travel Industry Association, 88 percent of leisure travel happens by car, truck or RV. Nine percent of Americans take to the air, while the rest journey by bus or train. No matter how you will be traveling, you’ll likely need to take to the road to get to an airport or train station. Leave extra time for any hiccups along the way. Nothing can make you feel more stressed than being rushed and worrying

Build anticipation. Get young ones excited about the trip, and not just the destination. Explain the new sights at the airport and the technology involved in takeoff. For older kids, the promise of a meal out while waiting for the flight or a new app to ease travel boredom may do the trick. Bring along plenty of snacks. Many airlines have tightened up meal policies and may only offer a small snack and beverage during short flights. Kids may not be excited about that dry biscuit or a few pretzel sticks, so pack some of their favorite snacks. Take advantage of boarding perks. Membership in travel clubs or travel credit card plans enable members to sit in more comfortable lounges or board early. Certain airlines give families with young children the chance to board first as well. This helps families get kids settled before the plane takes off.

Leader-Telegram Winter 2019 Her impressions 25

BROUGHT TO YOU IN PART BY:

that you will miss a departure due to traffic. Bring along a book, stream a movie or catch up on other tasks when you are early to the gate.

Confirm your itinerary

Avoid bad surprises by double-checking that flights are booked, hotel rooms have been reserved and by confirming any other aspects of your trip. This is especially important when using third-party booking sites to make travel plans.

Provide kids with entertainment

Be sure to bring along a bag with toys, electronics, games, coloring books, or whatever other distractions kids will enjoy to keep them occupied. Happy, occupied children are less likely to be disruptive, especially if travel delays occur.

Get ample sleep

Try to maintain a consistent sleep schedule. Lack of sleep can exacerbate feelings of stress and contribute to short tempers. WebMD says that it can take one to three days to recover from a sleep deficit and to unwind from stress. Factor in jet lag and the “first night effect,” a condition in which many travelers find it difficult to get a good night’s sleep in a new location, and sleep deprivation can be a problem. Leave time for sleeping in and do not over-pack a vacation schedule.

Pointers for traveling with pets Many individuals and families cannot part with their companion animals for long periods of time. As a result, it’s become more common for pets to accompany their owners on vacations. A study by AAA and Best Western International found more than half of American pet owners take their cats and dogs with them when they travel. Pet owners traveling with their four-legged friends can make the experience a fun and safe one by planning ahead. Be sure the pet is up-to-date with immunizations and bring documentation of those immunizations with you when traveling. Update any dated information on secure tags so pets can be returned promptly and safely should they become lost. Take frequent breaks on road trips to allow the pet to get some exercise and relieve itself. Some pets do not fly well and some airlines no longer transport certain breeds in the cargo hold, so inquire with airlines before planning a getaway. For those traveling outside of the country, recognize that some countries initially quarantine animals from other countries for a designated period of time to ensure the pet is in good health. Look for pet-friendly hotels and verify pets are allowed before booking.

26 Leader-Telegram Winter 2019 Her impressions

Download beloved movies or apps. Kids can while away the hours with some entertainment, such as familiar movies or favorite games on their laptops, tablets or smartphones. Ask for help. Sometimes flight attendants can pitch in with suggestions if kids need a little time out. Airlines may issue complementary “wings” pins or enable kids to meet the flight staff. Simply stretching their legs for a walk to another area of the plane may ease kids’ boredom. Time flights right. Children who are excellent sleepers may benefit from flights during naptime or bedtime, allowing parents to get a few hours of peace and quiet. Those who do not sleep well may do better on daytime flights when they can remain more active. Keep emergency supplies on hand. Kids have accidents or spill things. Keep a change of clothes in a carry-on bag so everyone can tidy up promptly. Families need not avoid air travel with kids. The sooner they climb aboard, the more adept kids will become at being frequent fliers.
