FROM THE EDITOR This time last year I was sat in my garden (with a glass of wine not too far away) soaking up the great British weather – lockdown number one was still in full swing, as was furlough. Fast forward 365 days and I’m sat inside, shamefully still in last night’s pyjamas with my hair scraped back in a messy ponytail, putting the finishing touches to this special edition of Cosmopolitan Trend. From my window I can see my neighbours gathered in their garden for a family BBQ and yet I feel no jealously. Instead I feel an overwhelming sense of happiness that life is finally beginning to get back on track and summer 2021 is underway. To celebrate the start of warmer weather we’re super excited to bring you the ultimate guide to spring/summer 2021 high street fashion. If like me you’ve been obsessed with checking Hailey Bieber’s Instagram for her latest looks, we’ll help you recreate our favourite on page 16. If you need a new handbag for all your summer plans (let’s face it, we definitely want one) page 20 has
everything you need. Or, if you’re feeling completely uninspired when it comes to outfits, we’ve got that covered too over on page 26. And if all that isn’t enough, to celebrate our love for fashion this edition we’re embracing self-expression with a feature on page 34 and exclusive illustrations throughout (such as the one opposite this page!). Here at Cosmopolitan Trend we’re ambassadors for dressing exactly how you like, without any worries of what others may think, and we want to share that with you in this edition. So, get comfy and make sure your credit card is close by… (it really is going to be hard to resist).

The Compass If you haven’t seen these beautys circulating the internet, seriously, where have you been? With so many different shapes and colours these cute rings are definitely the accesory of the season.
SILK SCARFS
With thanks to Versace, silk scarfs have captured the love and attention of the entire internet. Worn to cover up a bad hair day or even as a top, the silk scarf should be a staple in your summer wardrobe.
THE INSTA CO-ORD Our Instagram has been littered with this 70’s inspired co-ord and we love it! The best part is that it’s only £25.99 per piece in Zara, but be quick, it’s set to sell out within days.
90’s HANDBAGS
With lockdown easing it’s time to leave one of our favourite quarantine trends behind. I It was fun whilst it lasted, but we’ve officialy run out of things in our wardrobe to ruin.
LOW-RISE JEANS
Low-rise jeans are definitely making a comeback and people are horrified. With split opinions will you be buying into the trend? Here at the Cosmo team, our lockdown bodies aren’t quite ready yet...
CYCLING SHORTS
After being a staple in our wardrobe for so long it may be hard to say goodbye. It seems everyone has overdone the biker shorts trend and from now on we’ll (regretfully) be wearing them solely around the house.
HAVAIANAS x FORTNITE
NOT
You heard it right, 90’s shoulder bags are back, the high street is flooded with every colour imaginable, and we can’t get enough of them! Head to page 20 for the low down.
TIE-DYE (ANYTHING)
It seems the fashion industry has yet again succumbed to the Fortnite phenomena and it’s definitely not the most fashionable...

90’S SHOULDER BAGS ARE BACK
ince lockdown began, back in March of 2020, it’s fair to say that accessorising my outfit has been the least of my worries (not that said outfit was ever anything other than a mis-matched tracksuit). With nowhere to go other than the supermarkets, disposable masks and my purse were thrown into a boring old bag I’ve had since I was in college. Occasionally my handbag collection was given a break from gathering dust during my many wardrobe clear outs – in a bid to cure my boredom I took it upon myself to try on special events but instead everything in my into their saving wardrobe, resulting in accounts. This season is all about colour and brands are definitely catering to that with plentiful fun and joyful designs to keep us going throughout summer, and even better, they’re all affordable. It’s my pleasure to present to you a selection of the hottest accessory on the high street this summer – the handbag.

But most of all it’s the outfits that I wear for myself. I wear them because I love them, I feel good in them and fundamentally I want to wear them. However this isn’t the case for everyone. Recent statistics from the Huffington Post revealed that women on average wear just 20% of the clothes in their wardrobe, due to the fear of stepping out of their comfort zone. meeting probably wouldn’t go down too well, yet we should still be selecting outfits as a reflection of who we are rather than what we think we should look like. Pushing the ideology of dressing for yourself and no one else is fashion stylist and blogger Kitty Cowell. With over 19 thousand followers on Instagram and having worked with brands such as Nike, Puma and ASOS, Kitty is certainly clued up on the fashion world. She’s also not afraid to wear what she wants. Whilst her unique, alternative and streetwear style may not be everybody’s taste, she doesn’t let that stop her. I first heard about Kitty a few years ago, whilst scrolling through Instagram, through ASOS’s self-expression campaign
‘My Style is Never Done’. The marketing campaign, in collaboration with model Jazzelle Zanaughtti, focused on self-expression and encouraged customers to explore every part of their identity and personal style. ASOS have been firm believers that fashion is the perfect opportunity for exploring self-expression since their launch in 2000 and have been inspiring and empowering shoppers to explore and embrace their personal style ever since. The face of the campaign, model Jazzelle Zanaughtti, said she felt so strongly about the project as her own journey of self-discovery gave her the freedom to be herself and allowed her to break down personal barriers in order to grow. “It’s about
having the ability to break the confines of societal standards and say fuck it, I want to wear what I want regardless of what others think of me,”she said, in a press release with ASOS. “I’ve created a world in my head where I feel safe and confident no matter what, and I’m no longer held back by the fear of negativity. If I want to wear something, I’m going to wear it and I’m going to feel confident and happy whilst doing so. This is the message I really want to push into society.” Following the campaigns huge success ASOS have since launched multiple campaigns including the most recent, ‘#AySauce’ – a TikTok campaign encouraging fashion lovers to share 3 of their favourite outfits that encapsulates their personality and style, in hopes to further spread COSMOPOLITAN TREND ● 37

the message that fashion is a form of expression that should be explored by everyone. A contributor to that campaign is Kitty Cowell and just a quick scroll through her Instagram feed will tell you why. With her bright green hair and extensive collection of clothing, accessories and shoes (serious wardrobe goals) it’s clear to see that Kitty has found her own style and isn’t afraid to show it to the world – or an incredible 30 thousand followers across all of her social media platforms. With daily outfit posts, and more in depth discussions over on her blog, it’s easy to see she

Wardrobe Essentials
Every edition we ask one of our fave influencers their wardrobe essentials for the upcoming season..
Is there anywhere or any particular person you get your fashion inspiration from? I definitely get most of my fashion inspiration online, from Instagram or Pinterest. I follow so many people on Instagram, I’m constantly inspired by them. My favourites have to be Sophia Tuxford and Cinzia Baylis Zullo, they look amazing in everything. (Pictured below).
What is your go to summer outfit? @itsophslife
What’s your favourite colour to wear in the summer season? I’m a huge fan of colour all year round, I woudn’t say I have a favourite. I just buy what I like and then I wear it regardless of pattern/ style/colour.
Sophia Tuxford
I love an oversized t-shirt dress. They’re so casual and easy to wear yet can be dressed up if needed. Comfort is always key with my outfits.
Where’s your favourite places to shop for summer pieces? Zara are incredible for summer pieces - it’s just impossible to stick to a budget when I go in. I love Boohoo as well, they’ve really stepped up their game this summer.
Cinzia Zullo
What would you say are three basic pieces everyone needs in their summer wardrobe? A good pair of denim shorts, a blazer that will match with everything incase it gets a little chilly and some white trainers - they match everything! My favourite denim shorts are from Boohoo, they have so many good options.
High-street or designer? I’m definitely a high-street girl, although it is nice to treat yourself every now and then. I always make sure my splurges are on something I’ll get my wear out of and will last me for years to come.
As I’m always browsing Instagram it’s hard not to be aware of the latest trends. I definitely like to keep myself in the know but I wouldn’t say trends are super important to me, if I like something I’ll buy it whether it’s on trend or not.
What are your go to accessories in summer? I’m a lover of a good bucket hat, Primark have some lovely ones at the minute. A lot of jewellery as well, especially rings. A statement handbag is also one of my favourites.
