collagerenditions sketchi n g it er at ions 05

The objective was to create a spatial collage and to then do freehand rendering iterations of said collage using five different techniques. The technique varieties shown are as f o l l o w s f r o m l e f t t o r i g h t : t r a n s p a r e n c y, e d g e , b l i n d c o n t o u r , hatching, and figure-ground. 06

This wearable product was made entirely out of multiple repetitions of the same material-magazine pages (the 100). Every part of the piece was attached in one

A balance block is a 12x12 piece that delineates a cube whilst balancing on two square inches or less that touched the ground. The rendition is an abstracted version the final product meant to demonstrate the movement of the piece.

monolith object for the hand 09

The monolith is a shape that fits in the hand but is just uncomfortable enough that one holding it wants to constantly keep moving it around in their hand. The shape was carefully thought out and was crafted from 16 layers of maple wood and then hand-sanded down until smoothed into the desired shape.

The middle rendering is an abstraction of a plaster cast and the framing armature in which plaster resides in (shown in the outer two images). The armature is to be an extension and interpretation of the lines and shapes created from the original cast.

model and abstraction 10

After interconnecting 16 images of a subject of our choice (my chosen subject was famous paintings) and finding ways to visually link the images without altering them, the images were then abstracted into a hand-drawn work. 12

insertionproposal a n a rt i ns t allat ion 13

This insertable piece is for an existing building on the University of Cincinnati campus. The piece was to be something occupiable by humans that worked with the existing space. My insertion proposal was a set of metal tubes that hang from the ceiling at the Richard E. Linder Center, falling

at staggering lengths from the floor on an off-kilter grid. People were meant to be drawn to a space that was not before a point of interest in the building. Because of the insertion, those passing through would be forced to take t h e i r t i m e i n t h e a r e a b o t h p h y s i c a l l y a n d v i s u a l l y.

The shape of the structure was inspired from quilt blocks. The original pattern of the block was transformed into a shape that was then abstracted and folded to create something more geometric.

This proposed structure is based off of historical quilting squares that were used to communicate in code during the Underground Railroad. It’s to be located in Cincinnati, a city that was of great significance for the slaves that escaped from the south because of the Ohio River landmark. 20

The art of dance is to create a sculpture that’s visible only for a moment. How do you capture this into a building? ARABESQUE: Natalie is an experienced ballet dancer who runs her own private studio. She gives individual form lessons to the students of the Cincinnati Ballet and lives above her studio. 26
