Obituary
THELMA V. WORMSLEY was one of eleven children born May 14, 1930 to James Arthur and Lillie VanField, both who preceded her in death. She married Robert Wormsley and had two children; Ronald and Tametress.
Thelma attended D.C. Public Schools and P.G. Community College. She worked for the Federal and District Governments; retiring from the MPDC 5th Police District as a civilian administrative employee. A sedentary lifestyle was not exactly what Thelma was interested in, so she re-entered the workforce after retirement. She was employed with the Prince George’s County Office of Child Support Enforcement for a period of time.
Mrs. Wormsley attended the Catholic Church of the Incarnation where she was very active in organizations and various committees through the years. She served as a Lector for over 20 years, a Eucharistic minister, an usher, a member of the Sodality and served a term as the Regent of the Catholic Daughters of America Organization. She recited the Proclamation at the Christmas Eve Midnight mass for years until it was stopped due to the crime statistics in the area. She enjoyed and carried out the assigned duties wherever she was needed. Mrs. Wormsley was instrumental in bringing the Right to Life committee to the Church of the Incarnation working closely with Father Elmer Spears, SSJ and Ms. Nellie Gray (Right to Life March in Washington, DC founder). Further, working with then Father Carl Fisher, SSJ (who later became Bishop) on many projects for the Parish.
Mrs. Wormsley’s belief in God was very strong. She instilled THIS belief in her two children, seven grandchildren and 13* great-grandchildren. She passed on to them; insisting and assuring them; if they put God First in their plans they would succeed through Faith because God has the Master Plan for their success.
One of Thelma’s favorite sayings was “No Problem, God is in Control!” Also, “Nothing but Sumn’ to do!”
Thelma enjoyed bowling! Her new found enjoyment was when she joined Moon Strikers Senior Bowling League where she named her team SUMN2DO. She was very excited to bowl every Tuesday morning. She quickly moved up on the team to receive an award for the Most Improved Bowler for the year 2017-2018. Her team ended the season being awarded a hefty sum of money for each member.
Thelma leaves to cherish her memory, her son Ronald (Monica) Wormsley, Sr; her daughter, Tametress “Terri” Peden Owens; Grandchildren – Ronald Wormsley, Jr, Rodney Wormsley, Sr., Tyrone (Nadirah) Wormsley, Patryce (Takia) Peden, Brian Owens, Melesa (David) Copelin, Ashley Owens; Great-Grandchildren – Amir, Aria, Avery, Brianna, Israel, Journee, Rodney Jr., Sanaiya, Tameia Raine, Tyler, Zhyair, Zoriah and several bonus great-grandchildren; Best Friends – Alfreda M. Powers and Denise Minnis-Walker, along with a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
