Mountains, Dunes, and Gorges, Oh My. Leave No Trace was hard at work on four more Hot Spots

In the third quarter, Leave No Trace trained 1,325 key There are only four Hot Spots remaining in 2015: influencers about how to effectively communicate McAfee Knob, VA; Pinnacle Mountain State Park, AR; outdoor ethics to over 6 million annual visitors. Ventana Wilderness, CA; Bayou Teche Paddle Trail, LA. Hot Spots raise community awareness and brings solutions to popular natural areas around the country. The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics concluded four more Hot Spots, bringing the count to eight parks around the country impacted through the Hot Spots program in 2015. McAfee Ventana Knob Wilderness These parks include: Mount Bierstadt, CO; Nordhouse Pinnacle Mountain Dunes Wilderness Area, MI; Linville Gorge Wilderness Area, NC; and Mount St. Helens, WA. Leave No Trace conducted 35 trainings, outreach events, and service Bayou Tech projects throughout the course of the Subaru/Leave In Q4 No Trace Traveling Trainers work with these parks. Social media outreach proved to be a great success for both the Nordhouse Dunes Wilderness Area Hot Spot and the Mount St. Helens Hot Spot. The U.S. Forest Service hosted a Leave No Trace Hot Spot social media takeover during the Hot Spot at both areas. At Nordhouse Dunes this takeover included a full day of Facebook and twitter posts surrounding the Hot Spot. Over 41,000 people follow the US Forest Service page and another 1,100 people follow their twitter page. Leave No Trace’s work at these two Hot Spots generated more than fourteen unique media stories, reaching over 11,400,00 people.
