Mt. Muncie Cemetery, located on 190 rolling acres, has served the Leavenworth-Lansing area for 153 years. On the grounds are a mausoleum and chapel, complete with air conditioning and heat. Also available are four columbariums which hold cremation remains. We also have a section designated for green (natural) burials. All the areas are under a perpetual care trust fund which means those we leave behind will never have the burden or responsibility of maintenance and upkeep. The cemetery is operated by a locally elected board of directors.

The first edition of the Times appeared on the streets of frontier Leavenworth on March 7, 1857. The Leavenworth Times is the oldest daily newspaper in Kansas. Then, as it does today, The Times’ principle focus is local community news, sports and opinions in the Leavenworth, Lansing and Fort Leavenworth areas . . . the stories of grief and joy, new and old businesses, weddings and funerals, everyday happenings. Now owned by Gannett Co., Inc., the Times has evolved into a multimedia company including helping businesses build websites, mobile sites and social media. The Leavenworth Police Department is the first organized police department within the State of Kansas. It was not until 1861 that the term “Police” was used in Leavenworth. Prior to that they were known as “Marshals.” The Police Department operated under the City Marshal until approximately 1903 when Captain John Taylor began using the title of Chief of Police. The Police Department was headquartered in the City Hall building at 5th and Shawnee until April 2000 at which time it relocated to the new Leavenworth County Justice Center at 601 South Third Street.

The history of the Geiger Companies started in Leavenworth, Kansas in the 1860’s. Gottlieb Geiger was a small contractor in Leavenworth. His son Adam Geiger opened a building material business in 1892 called A.M. Geiger Cement Company, selling coal, sack material and other items. Adam’s son, Ed, founded one of the largest construction companies in Kansas in the 1920’s, building roads all over the State of Kansas with emphasis in Western Kansas. In 1949 his son, E.W. Geiger, Jr., founded Geiger Ready-Mix Co., Inc. with his wife Lura S. Geiger,

who was the first batch person and secretary. In the late 1960’s, E.W. Geiger, III joined the company and engineered the growth in the greater Kansas City area. The sixth generation of Geiger’s to work for the company are Todd Geiger - President; Julie Geiger Human Resources; and Mike Reuter, Plant Manager and Sales, all 3 operating in Kansas City.” We are proud to call Leavenworth our Hometown. The Leavenworth Chronicle was founded in 1903 by Robert E. Davis. During the early years it was a weekly paper which carried labor union news. From the early 1930’s to the present, The Chronicle has evolved through five different owners. It was purchased in 2019 by it’s seventh owner, Gannett Co., Inc. who continues to publish the weekly advertiser. Today it is distributed to 14,000 homes around the Leavenworth and Lansing communities. In 1983, The Senior Chronicle was born. It is published with the help of the Leavenworth County Council on Aging, the second Wednesday of each month and provides information on senior events, meals on wheels and more

He removed the original facility and replaced it with an updated new building and then added four new bays.
