FALL 2017

IT’S EXCITING AT THE VALLEY LEBANON VALLEY COLLEGE WELCOMES RECORD 513 NEW STUDENTS

The quiet and serene campus turned quickly to excitement during Move-in Day at Lebanon Valley College. Happy greetings among roommates and staff assisting new families blended with the sounds of coaching whistles on the fields and music rising from the Pride of The Valley Marching Band on the Academic Quad. A record 513 first-year and transfer students arrived on campus, and the 466 students in the Class of 2021 make it one of the largest first-year classes in the College’s history. This year’s new students included 47 transfer students. “The Class of 2021 found LVC to be a great fit due to their

many interests inside and outside the classroom, and the knowledge that our faculty, staff, and current students will help them achieve their goals,” said Edwin Wright, vice president of enrollment management. Frank Newman ’21, a chemistry major from Annapolis, Md., described what brought him to LVC. “The LVC Chemistry Department is very impressive. The staff and students are helpful and personable. The first day of orientation made me realize that—in addition to receiving a great education— students can still enjoy a high quality of life. You can play sports, spend time on your hobbies, and make friends.”

SCHOLARSHIPS AND FINANCIAL AID The cost of college is a major concern for families. At LVC, 100 percent of our Fall 2017 incoming class received grant or scholarship aid from the College, with average award packages valued at $26,000. LVC’s merit-based scholarship awards are based on strength and rigor of course work, gradepoint average (GPA), class rank (if applicable), and SAT or ACT test scores (optional). Students applying for admission will be automatically evaluated for scholarships. Scholarships are awarded for up to a maximum of eight semesters as long as satisfactory academic progress is made. Explore scholarship opportunities at www.lvc.edu/scholarships. To start the financial aid process, families should file their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible after Oct. 1, 2017. Learn more about financial aid at www.lvc.edu/financial-aid.

SAMMY BOST NOMINATED FOR NCAA WOMAN OF THE YEAR Students at LVC can shape their own journey and often excel in research, the arts, student groups, or athletics. About a third of LVC students participate in one of our Flying Dutchmen athletic teams and one of those student-athletes is vying for a major national honor. Lebanon Valley softball and women’s soccer player Sammy Bost ’17, D’19 was selected as the MAC Commonwealth Conference nominee for the 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year Award. Bost is one of 145 total conference nominees, one of 53 Division III student-athletes, and one of just 24 dual-sport athletes included. She wrapped up one of the most impressive four-year careers in school history. She is a three-time CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-American and NFCA All-American, two-time MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year, and a top-10 finalist for the 2016 NFCA/Schutt Sports Division III Player of the Year Award. She is also the NCAA’s all-time record-holder with 97 consecutive stolen bases. The committee determines the top three nominees from each division and announces the nine finalists in September. The NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics will select from the final nine to choose the 2017 Woman of the Year.
