DESIGN

STATEMENT As a Designer, I have a strong passion for Architecture and an appreciation for design, concepts, and detail. I offer the ability to adapt positively to changing environments as well as technologies and systems. I am result oriented with strong attention to accuracy and extensive knowledge of multiple Architectural softwares. I am always willing to learn and continue to expand and share my knowledge. And will always be open to change and improvement for professional development. My goal is to use a distinctive, imaginative style to establish a compelling visual and experiential story.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project is located at Tommy Thompson Park, “a unique place near downtown Toronto to experience nature, and one of the best places for bird-watching in the city, with more than 300 recorded species.” My initial concept is a common nest but when I visited the site, I found this interesting nest in the area. The design concept aims to mimic Cliff Swallow Nest’s form and features. It is interesting because this nest is made up of mud built-in groups or clusters overlapping each other. The cliff swallow nest typically looks like a gourd in shape and has only one opening. One of the objectives of this project is to maximize natural light and ventilation. By adopting the concept of a cliff swallow nest, I was able to maximize light and ventilation by forming a high pitch roof allowing passive cooling of the building by variances in vertical pressure initiated by thermal buoyancy. It is called the stack effect; it is the phenomenon whereby warm air rises and cold air enters to replace it. It is sometimes referred to as the chimney effect because it is also the driving force behind a fireplace to draft up a chimney. Besides, the skylight in the high pitch roof also acts as a support for the natural light to pass through the building from above reflecting the white ceiling and light-coloured interiors. Sustainability was also considered in the building by harvesting solar energy through the solar shingles that are integrated with the building’s roof. Rainwater collection and greywater treatment are also proposed for support to the main water source. For climate control, a geothermal system was integrated. The green roof was also incorporated to help control the temperature of the building.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is a project in fourth semester in Architetcural Studio. The objective is to learn and apply the design and technical aspects of building projects utilizing steel frame and the use of curtain wall building systems for the building envelope. It was completed within a simulated architectural office environment to complete the required construction documents to applicable regulations and current industry standards. The project is identified as an industrial warehouse with a two-storey office building. Located in the city of Vaughan, in the regional municipality of York. It focuses on understanding the use of steel frame building construction and curtain wall syestems such as glazed, precast concrete, and insulated metal stud wall for the building envelope. In addition, the preliminary phase of the project was to expand our knowledge in understanding the different requirements not only within the building but also requirements such as parking area as per occupancy type, setbacks, access point location and other develeopment within the project property bounderies. The project documentation progressed based from the Client’s requirements and also with strict compliance to the Zoning ByLaws and Ontario Building Code.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This was an individual project for the Architectural Studio course in my third semmester. I designed the schematics and conducted research considering the project main features such as sustainable and green building principles. “OG” stands for Off-Grid. The project is located at Calias street, North York, Toronto. The project is designed for a working couple who wants a small yet livable and comfortable home. The goal is a cost effective, sustainable microhome, designed to support and adapt to any kind of environment. It is a minimalist concept that sustains an off-grid lifestyle with incorporated farming. The house utilises available resources to function such as solar and water harvesting and it also includes a grey-water treatment as well. Material wise, the pod made use of wood as its main material from framing, interior finishes and envelope due to its sustainable nature.The 25 square meter footprint square shape plan of the microhome contains basic spaces that includes living, dining, cooking area and a loft type resting area organized properly to achieve the most comfortable setup to accomodate the needs of the end users.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The objective of the project is to develop construction documents of a mixed-use Commercial/ Retail and Residentail Development within compliance of the part 3 of the Ontario Building Code. It is a three storey building that consist of first floor for commercial/ retail and upper floors to accomodate residential occupancy, with a basement as the main parking space for the occupants. The proposed building utilises concrete, steel framing and the use of standard pre-engineered floor joist building system. We were also tasked to develop a design for the building envelope using at least three different exterior materials and provide details as per industry standards. Green building principle were also considered for future development in the roof top of the building. Moreover, the project aims to complete the required set of Construction documents through the collaborative effort of group members in a simulated architectural work office environment. And all the required documents were equally distributed among the group members and completed according to the project schedule.
