SUBCONSCIOUS

Blending dreams & reality into one, creating a powerful awareness

“It’s always about timing. If it’s too soon, no one understands. If it’s too late, everyone’s forgotten.” Anna Wintour AUTUMN/WINTER 2017/2018 embrace the present by providing people with a chance to breathe and incorporate concepts, like that of a “Mindless Season” focused the freedom to be creative and artistic. A Mindless Season is vague; it is the natural process of interpretation, rendering it susceptible to whatever we want it to be. Nevertheless, to have a better understanding of a Mindless season, it has been infused 5 sub-categories; Subconscious, Undefined, Rebirth, Fusion and Ambulation that were inspired by. The lifestyle of the SUBCONSCIOUS is one of the most observable juxtaposition between pretense and reality. As the journey take a glance around you to see the unmistakable traits of subconscious in our lives. At its true core, Surrealism is not a matter of aesthetics, but rather a way of thinking / a point of view. Consequently, as we delve more into the subconscious, we realize that there is a love for morphing humans into objects of dreams. Today, while boundaries have become blurred, industries have become braver and more flamboyant. The appeal was evident in the use of ordinary everyday objects and skewed landscape that transferred easily to fabric painting, jewelry, hats, couture and the likes. ‘Unanswerable questions, unquestionable answers’, no dimension, and the origin of vagueness are all key components to an UNDEFINED lifestyle. The most captivating aspect of Undefined is the fact that most appearance id not always reality. Being able to escape from what society thinks and letting your brain believe whatever it wants to think it represent, it is Undefined. The stark opposite can be said about the trend that has been ubiquitous for decades and refuse to die. However, it can now have REBIRTH by simply adding our own personal touch to it. The trends that have defined us for decades are the opposite but the Mindless season will provide a rebirth of timeless design. Cross-cultural FUSION is a blend between different areas of the globe which we then make as our own. It features a voyeuristic spirit and innovations often hinge on contrast. Inspired by the desire to fuse different elements to create new forms, the result is a unique lifestyle that is a perfect blend of functionality and aesthetics. A Mindless Season shows us that rules are changing, resulting in a homogenization of culture. We live in a grayscale world where cultural boarders are blurred. Today, retail and technology are more closely entwined than ever; from new ecommerce platforms to tech-embedded clothes. AMBULATION design allows life to be functional as well as comfortable. Technology allows us to have a seamless transition, while breaking down the barriers of instructions about life events. Leading a stress-reduced lifestyle is important these days, and is motivation for a healthier lifestyle.

“Surrealism had a great effect on me because I then realized the imagery in my mind wasn’t insanity. Surrealism to me is reality.” John Lennon.

S

ubconscious is perceived as an alternative universe of imaginative and analogical connections and analogical thinking. It is the disorderly profusion of objects both natural and artificial which distorts induction and resonate ambiguity. Surrealism’s assimilation into everyday life is so complete that characterizing something as “surreal has become a routine, rather obvious way of suggesting its peculiarity. Surrealists hoped to bring about a poetic, re-animation of the way we conduct our lives, reappearing in our lifestyle such as children games, books, three-dimensional designs, advertisements, film and on the web, it provides a door, leading to a domain of marvel where the unadulterated spirit of surrealism lives on. Protesters argue that the functional aspect of fashion negates viewing it as an art form and, in general, people are less tolerant to pluralism in a lifestyle.

REBIRTH

Traditional trends that are forever timeless

“The more things change, the more they stay the same. Alphone Karr.

ebirth is a modern, cultural and social phenomenon which certain aspects of earlier life, technologies and lifestyle have shaped its architectural landscape. It manifests itself in new and popular trends and styles, changing over time and serving as a form of communication for ideas and meanings, thus capturing the spirit of the times. Certain trends never seem to fade away, in fashion, in architecture, or just basic day-to-day items. As a result, there are those items that you can keep forever, in anticipation for when it comes back into style or the order of the day. One notes that sometimes the change come full-circle with previous trends re-emerging hence its name, Rebirth.

UNDEFINED

Forming an image or artistic expression of how the world feels.

“It is difficult to talk about fashion in the abstract, without a human body before my eyes, without drawings, without a choice of fabric - without a practical or visual reality Giorgio Armani

ndefined designs which have permeated contemporary culture. With the proliferation of digital reading technologies and their underlying ecosystem, practices of reading are currently undergoing significant changes. Similarly, Undefined lifestyles are a phenomenon symbolized by accelerated changes. Incorporating architectural structures and geometric shapes is a fantastic and creative way to add artistic designs to elements. Many people view trends as a communication of expression while others see it as an expression of self. We can’t all see the same thing, simply because we each see from different perspective lens. We each create an illusion of what we see, rather than what is.

Linking sports and technology without sacrificing style

mbulation defines the world as movement. The ability to move from one occasion to another without sacrificing your style is the mindset of today. Active design guides and promotes physical activities and healthy lifestyles; they have inadvertently reversed the trend of unhealthy, sedentary lifestyle. It has become a trend to wear sportswear brands outside of the environments for which the physical activity was designed. It has become a daily style of living. Some have introduced cost-effective ways to contribute towards the vision of a more livable and hospitable environment where we are encouraged to climb stairs, use transit and eat healthy. While others have invested in technology-embedded clothes that are functional and comfortable. Today, consumers sought out the brightly coloured running shoes with microchip to evaluate our heart beats and intelligent cycling jackets, both everyday wearable electronic designed product.

FUSION

It is a paradox of same, yet different – capturing, reflecting and improvising.

“Style is an expression of individualism mixed with charisma. Fashion is something that comes after style” John Field

usion is a happy marriage between two great design cultures. It is a blend of not just between different areas of the globe, but of the ideologies and motivators associated by each region’s native people. It is a product of interaction between cultural values, in many different lifestyles, which identities can be constructed and reproduced. This blending of cultures creates a more diversified society and by extension world. Its philosophy is to transform your interaction with everyday objects and to demonstrate to others that it doesn’t matter who or where you come from, there are common elements in society, and that is, functionality and aesthetics.
