With overflowing spirits, pub crawls and boisterous parades, St. Patrick's Day celebrations are largely geared toward adults. Although children may experience a little bit of the festivities, they may not be able to participate fully in all of the activities. That is why parents, teachers and caregivers can develop child-friendly activities that will enable children to enjoy the festivities of the day but
also to do so in a way that is safe and age-appropriate. One of the easiest ways to engage children for the holiday is to enable them to create hand-made decorations and games that can be displayed. With a few simple supplies, children can create a variety of festive items to share their enthusiasm. An idea to get them started is to construct a rainbow and pot of gold com-

plete with leprechaun. To do so gather the following supplies: * poster board * clean, empty gallon milk container * crepe paper in rainbow colors and in black * gold foil circles * construction paper * glue * scissors * glitter, if desired 1. Draw and cut out a leprechaun using various shades of construction paper. Glue it to the posterboard. 2. Cut out half of the milk container to form a "pot." Use glue to adhere black crepe paper to it. Attach to the
posterboard. 3. Stick gold foil circles to form the "gold coins" that will be filling the pot of gold. 4. Cut out pieces of crepe paper from the rainbow colors and attach to the posterboard to form the rainbow. Let the pieces end right near the pot of gold. 5. Allow kids to embellish further with glitter and any other things they may have on hand. Display the leprechaun with a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow in a prime spot during your St. Patrick's Day celebration.

Did you know? Home improvement projects no longer need to be halted due to missing tools or misplaced measurements. Thanks to advancements in mobile phone technology, homeowners can now keep projects on schedule thanks to a host of apps that make it possible for even the most forgetful do-it-yourselfer to complete projects on time. Carpentry apps provide rulers, protractors, and a host of other features that can help with projects big and small, be it hanging pictures in the family room or completing a molding project. Homeowners can also
make the most of sizing apps that allow them to enter the square footage of their homes or individual rooms and compare costs of supplies and materials. Those tackling painting projects can take advantage of painting palette apps that make it easy to match colors and compare colors for interior or even exterior projects. Drywall calculator apps enable homeowners tackling the often troublesome task of measuring drywall to finish the project much morequickly and with significantly less stress.

It has become tradition for married couples to jet off on a post-wedding vacation. This honeymoon is a way for the bride and groom to enjoy quiet time together and start off their married life together on an intimate level. Although the word "honeymoon" has happy connotations today, the original meanings of the word may not be so blissful. There are varying accounts of the evolution of the word "honeymoon," but many believe it to be a Norse tradition deriving from the word "hjunottsmanathr." Northern European history describes women being abducted from their families and forced into marriage with a man
from a neighboring village. This husband would take his new bride into hiding and stay there for a while until it was certain the bride's family had given up the hunt and retreated. It was also tradition for Scandinavian couples to drink a sweet, honey-infused wine known as mead for a month after getting married. This may be where the "honey," for the sweet drink, and the"moon," for the onemonth period of time, originated. Others say "honeymoon" refers to a sarcastic quip that a marriage starts out sweet as honey, but then wanes much as the moon will each cycle.

Barbecuing isn't just for the lazy days of summer. Delicious grilled meals are easy to prepare year-round. Here are a few tips for winter barbecuing that are important to remember before you get the snow shovel out. * Always pre-heat your barbecue. Pre-heat to 400o F -- 450o F at minimum, and adjust the temperature from there. Remember, if food doesn't sizzle when you put it on the grill, your barbecue is not hot enough. * If you are grilling with charcoal, include more charcoal for increased pre-heating time and extra heat while grilling. * Cooking times may change with extreme cold. Always use an instant read thermometer to ensure that foods are cooked thoroughly. * Grill with the lid down. Heat loss on a cold day is significantly greater than a warm summer day, and keeping your barbecue at a consistent temperature will be very difficult with the lid open. * When grilling on a windy day, try to reduce your exposure to the wind. If grilling at lower temperatures, keep an eye on your barbecue to ensure
that it does not blow out. If you do need to move your barbecue out of the wind, keep minimum clearances in mind to avoid damaging your deck or home. * Clear a work area around your barbecue. This won't impact cooking time, but having enough room to work without filling your boots with snow makes for a much more enjoyable barbecue experience and avoids any untimely slips or falls. * Several lighting options are available. Some barbecues have built in lighting, and add-on handle lights are available so you're not grilling in the dark. Broil King offers a variety of lighting options for their barbecues. * Never use your barbecue indoors, in your garage or in an enclosed area. Carbon Monoxide accumulation, accidental fire damage, and smoke damage are all possible -- it's not worth the risk. More information on grilling and great recipe ideas is available at www.broilkingbbq.com. Clear off that barbecue and get grilling!

Which fish are sustainable? Making environmentally friendly seafood choices Believe it or not, our daily diets can have a profound impact on the environment. This is especially true for seafood lovers, who can choose to buy specific types of seafood that are more eco-friendly. In 2009, Americans spent billions of dollars on fish at restaurants and grocery stores. Many environmentalists want consumers to heed the warning that the world's oceans are being overfished and certain types of seafood are endangered and facing extinction. Experts from The International Union for Conservation of Nature warn that bluefin tuna are among the more than 40 species of fish in the Mediterranean alone that are under threat of vanishing from the region. The Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch(R) lists several breeds of seafood in its "avoid" column, indicating that these are overfished and/or fished or farmed in ways that harm other marine life or the environment. Some seafood on the list include imported king crab, grouper, spiny lobster, farmed salmon, many different shrimp, and tilapia from China and Taiwan. To help make smart purchases, some consumers would like to see warning labels on certain seafood packaging to indicate if the species is threatened. A poll conducted by Greenpeace in Japan several years ago found that 68 percent of consumers were in favor of the warning labels. Ninety-one percent of Canadians feel seafood should come from sustainable sources, according to a June 2011 poll by the World Wildlife Fund. Some retailers are already stepping up their conservation efforts. In March 2011, Costco, the popular warehouse center, stopped selling 12 species of fish that have been identified as
threatened by overfishing. Other stores are doing the same. Public awareness of overfishing is on the rise through grassroots organizations and major environmental outfits. As such, consumers often want to know where to turn to find sustainable seafood for their dinner tables. Right now Seafood Watch lists these species as their "Best Choices" in sustainability. * Arctic Char (Farmed in recirculating systems) * Barramundi (U.S. farmed in fully recirculating Systems) * Catfish (U.S. farmed) * Clams (Farmed) * Cobia (U.S. Farmed) * Cod, Atlantic (Iceland, Northeast Arctic hook-and-line) * Cod, Pacific (U.S. bottom longline, jig, trap) * Crab, Dungeness * Crab, Stone * Halibut, Pacific * Mackerel, Atlantic (Canada) * Mussels (Farmed) * Oysters (Farmed) * Perch, Yellow (Lake Erie) * Salmon (Alaska Drift Gillnet, Purse Seine, Troll) * Scallops (Farmed off-bottom) * Striped Bass (Farmed) * Tilapia (U.S. Farmed) * Trout, Rainbow (Farmed) * Tuna, Albacore (U.S. Pacific, Canadian Pacific Troll, pole-and-line) * Tuna, Albacore (Canned) White (U.S. Pacific, Canadian Pacific Troll, pole-and-line) * Tuna, Bigeye (U.S. Atlantic Troll, pole-and-line) * Tuna, Skipjack (Troll, pole-and-line) * Whitefish, Lake (Trap-net) Through smart purchases, consumers can help protect the world's oceans

Dear God Q & A Ministries
Dear God, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, Washington D.C., Iowa and just recently New Jersey, according to my research, are the states that have passed laws to give same sex couples the right to marry. It seems as though there has been a great debate over the past several years on this topic. My question is: What is the Biblical truth in regard to this issue? Nancy Dear Nancy, It seems as though this issue is heavy on the hearts of many in this world today. I must continue my response when I answered the devoted Giants Fan a few weeks ago. My Word, the Bible, is the instruction book for all mankind. There is no respect of person. The Words I speak are Truth and many times offensive to those who choose evil over good. To understand My purpose for mankind, one must have faith to believe that I AM who I AM; the Beginning and the End, the authority of all that exists. It is not mother nature or father time neither is it world governments or the law makers. It was I, who created all things; the heavens, the earth, mankind and all that exist today and I have set everything in motion. Without faith in Who I AM it is impossible to understand the love that I have for every individual. And that love has been from everlasting to everlasting. It will never stop. I am not pleased when mankind suppress the truth in unrighteousness. They did not see fit to acknowledge Me as God in times past nor in this present day. Therefore I have given them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper. Why? Because I have given mankind a free will to choose. It is their choice to choose good or evil. The biblical truth in regard to same sex marriage is as follows: Then the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him… So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. The LORD God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man... For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.” Marriage is the first institution that I have set up for mankind; that a man and a woman come together as one, each meeting the needs of the other, which is the natural thing. There is no other way. Those who choose otherwise have an unbelieving heart; a heart and mind that suppress the truth. They exchange the truth of God for a lie. Women exchanging the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire towards one another, men with men committing indecent acts. They choose not to acknowledge Me as God and give hearty approval to those who practice the same. Other statements or beliefs about same sex marriage that you might hear about is nothing other than a lie from the father of lies, the deceiver; satan himself. Your Loving, Merciful, Forgiving and Creator of Justice, GOD

There are many things the public knows about Saint Patrick's Day, but there's much they may not know about the holiday or Irish-American heritage for that matter. Here are some facts and trivia that might surprise even the most devoted of Patty's Day revelers. * Despite St. Patrick being alive centuries earlier, St. Patrick's Day celebrations didn't begin until 1737. * More people of Irish heritage live in the United States than currently live in all of Ireland. Irish-Americans living
stateside predominantly reside in the North Atlantic states. * Saint Patrick angered the Celtic Druids many times by converting pagans to Christianity. The Druids put him in jail on numerous occasions. * Green is not the official color affiliated with Saint Patrick. It is really blue. However, green became a familiar hue during the nineteenth century more for being associated with the magic of Irish legends than Saint Patrick himself.
* The three-leaf shamrock has more historical significance with regards to Saint Patrick's day than a four-leaf clover. That's because the three leaves were believed to be used by St. Patrick to explain the Christian doctrine of the Holy Trinity, where God exists as three persons. * For 67 years, Saint Patrick's Day was a "dry" holiday in Ireland. James O'Mara, a member of Irish parliament, introduced a bill in 1903 that made Saint Patrick's Day a religious holiday
in the country. Therefore, local pubs were obligated to close. The law was overturned in 1970. * According to their Web site, Hallmark has been selling green Saint Patrick's Day cards since the early 1920s, now selling as many as 15 million annually. * Contrary to popular belief, Ireland does not top the list with respect to showing Irish pride. New York City boasts the largest parade honoring the holiday and Irish heritage.
Grandparents helping to raise grandchildren The stalled economy has pushed many families into the position of doing whatever is needed to make ends meet. In many cases, this means both parents working whatever jobs they can find and finding the best childcare option while they are at work. Many people are turning to their parents to help care for their kids. More than 60 percent of families with children under age 18 had both parents employed outside the home in 2005 to 2006, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That compares to less than a third of mothers in 1975. The numbers today are around 42 percent, a decrease that likely has a lot to do with unemployment figures remaining high. Human Resources and Skills Development Canada states that there are similar statistics among Canadian families. With so many men and women heading to work each day, and money a fac-
tor for doing so, the topic of child care becomes one of necessity as well as affordability. Grandparents are regularly stepping up to help family members who are under a financial crunch. Grandparents considering caring for their grandkids should keep in mind some things even if the childcare scenario on the surface seems like it is the best option. * It's a big commitment. Once the decision has been made, it is expected that you will be providing care for a certain period of time -- perhaps even without a future end date. Remember, other arrangements will have to be made if you back out because it's simply not working. * Know your limits.Childcare is not something to take lightly. While you may have had enough energy to provide care years ago, maybe now you are simply not up to the task or have not iden-

tified factors that could hinder your ability to care for a grandchild -- no matter how much you love him or her. * Be prepared for changes to your life. You will no longer be able to operate on your own schedule. Now your days will largely revolve around caring for your grandkids. If many of your friends are living active lives without grandchildren in tow, this could put a hamper on your relationships and ability to socialize. * It could be just what you need. On the flip side, if you have been seeking something to do with your time, being in the presence of your grandchildren could be just what you need to find a purpose to your days. * The relationship may cause animosity. If you are offering care to one set of grandchildren and are not doing so to another, it could strain the relationships among your children. Think about the larger factor before agreeing
to being the caregiver. * Talk to your spouse. If you are married or are in a relationship, this is a decision that will have to be discussed with your partner, whose life will be impacted as well. If both of you aren't seeing eye-to-eye on the situation, it may cause a rift that can damage your relationship. * Avoid guilt. If you choose to say no to the situation, it may generate hurt feelings at the onset, but if you explain your reasons clearly, chances are the loved one will understand how you are feeling. Although grandparents stepping in to become childcare providers for their grandchildren while parents are at work has become a popular situation in recent years, it is important to weigh the pros and cons of the situation before delving headfirst into the arrangement.
