Memorable April Fool's Day pranks April Fool's Day is a day when people play pranks on unsuspecting friends, coworkers and family members. The history of April Fool's Day, or All Fools' Day, dates back to sixteenth century France and the reform of the calendar under Charles IX, when the Gregorian Calendar was introduced and New Year's Day was moved from April 1 to January 1. Back then, word did not spread nearly as quickly as it does now, and some people didn't find out about the date change until several years after it was initiated. As a result, some were still celebrating the New Year on April 1, and the rest of the population ridiculed those people who were not in the know. And they were sent on pranks called "fool errands." These pranks were also known as "poisson d'avril," which means April fish, because a young fish is easily caught. Eventually the April pranks spread outside of France into other areas of Europe, and different countries developed their own names and variations of pranks. In present day North America, April Fool's Day is celebrated with jokes and pranks, some of which have actually fooled the masses. Over the years, certain pranks have stood out as monumental April Fool's Day hoaxes. Here's a look at some of those more memorable pranks. * In 1976, British astronomer Patrick Moore announced on BBC radio that, at 9:47 a.m., a once-in-a-lifetime event was going to happen. He said that Pluto was going to pass behind Jupiter and create a momentary decrease in the Earth's gravity. It would result in a strange floating sensation on Earth. The BBC began to receive hundreds of phone calls from people having said they felt the gravitational effects. * Discover magazine reported in 1995 that a new species of animal was found in Antarctica. It was called the hotheaded naked ice borer. These animals were purported to have bony plates on their heads that would become burning hot from numerous blood vessels underneath. The ani-

mal could bore through ice at high speeds. The magazine received more mail for this story than any story in the history of the publication. * In 1998, Burger King printed a full-page advertisement introducing the "Left-Handed Whopper," which was specially designed for all of the lefties. The condiments were rotated 180 degrees for the benefit of lefthanded customers. Thousands of customers headed into Burger King to get the special burger. * It was reported in 1998 that the Alabama state legislature had voted to change the mathematical value of pi from 3.14159 to the "Biblical value" of 3.0. News spread quickly over e-mail, and the Alabama legislature began receiving hundreds of calls from angry protestors. * In 1992, comedian Rich Little impersonated the voice of Richard Nixon to announce Nixon's new candidacy for president. The announcement included audio clips of Nixon delivering a candidacy speech. Listeners flooded National Public Radio's telephone lines to express outrage. * In 1977, British newspaper The Guardian published a seven-page supplement on San Serriffe, supposed to be a small republic consisting of several semi-colon-shaped islands in the Indian Ocean. The two main islands were called Upper Caisse and Lower Caisse. Phones rang with eager people trying to find out more information about the idyllic spot. Only a few realized everything about the republic was named after printer's terminology. * In 1996, the Taco Bell Corporation announced they had purchased the Liberty Bell and were renaming it the Taco Liberty Bell. Protesters called the historic park in Philadelphia where the bell was located. Taco Bell revealed the joke a few hours later. White House press secretary Mike McCurry added to the prank by announcing the Lincoln Memorial had also been sold. It would be known as the Ford Lincoln Mercury Memorial.

The station's technical expert said that, thanks to new technology, viewers could convert their TV sets to color reception by pulling a nylon stocking over the TVscreen. Thousands of people fell for the prank. * A Sports Illustrated journalist made up a story about a new rookie pitcher who would be playing for the Mets in 1985. The pitcher's name was Sidd Finch, and he could reportedly throw a baseball 168 mph with pinpoint accuracy. Surprisingly, Sidd Finch had never even played the game before. Instead, he had mastered the "art of the pitch" in a Tibetan monastery under the guidance of the "great poet-saint Lama Milaraspa." Mets fans fell for the prank and the magazine was flooded with requests for more information.

* In 1957, the BBC news show "Panorama" featured a story that a mild winter and elimination of the spaghetti weevil enabled a bumper spaghetti crop by Swiss farmers. Footage of Swiss peasants pulling spaghetti off of trees was released, and hundreds were taken in by the prank. Many called the BBCasking how they could grow a spaghetti tree for themselves.

Dear God, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, Washington D.C., Iowa and just recently New Jersey, according to my research, are the states that have passed laws to give same sex couples the right to marry. It seems as though there has been a great debate over the past several years on this topic. My question is: What is the Biblical truth in regard to this issue? My Word, the Bible, is the instruction book for all mankind. There is no respect of person. The Words I speak are Truth and many times offensive to those who choose evil over good. To understand My purpose for mankind, one must have faith to believe that I AM who I AM; the Beginning and the End, the authority of all that exists. It is not mother nature or father time neither is it world governments or the law makers. It was I, who created all things; the heavens, the earth, mankind and all that exist today and I have set everything in motion. Without faith in Who I AM it is impossible to understand the love that I have for every individual. And that love has been from everlasting to everlasting. It will never stop. I am not pleased when mankind suppress the truth in unrighteousness. They did not see fit to acknowledge Me as God in times past nor in this present day. Therefore I have given them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper. Why? Because I have given mankind a free will to choose. It is their choice to choose good or evil. The biblical truth in regard to same sex marriage is as follows: Then the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him… So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. The LORD God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man... For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.” Marriage is the first institution that I have set up for mankind; that a man and a woman come together as one, each meeting the needs of the other, which is the natural thing. There is no other way. Those who choose otherwise have an unbelieving heart; a heart and mind that suppress the truth. They exchange the truth of God for a lie. Women exchanging the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire towards one another, men with men committing indecent acts. They choose not to acknowledge Me as God and give hearty approval to those who practice the same. Other statements or beliefs about same sex marriage that you might hear about is nothing other than a lie from the father of lies, the deceiver; satan himself. Eggs are symbolic of Easter. They're colored, decorated, hidden, and used in decorative items for the home. The one caveat to eggs is that they are quite fragile, and even hard-boiled eggs can be rendered useless with one accidental drop or blow. Instead of relying on breakable eggs for Easter fun, consider making stronger ones instead. Symbolic of rebirth and renewal, eggs are an integral part of setting the scene come early spring. store. There are two main ways to create egg shapes out of a ball of clay. One way is to roll a ball out of the clay and then roll it vertically between your hands to make the smaller end of the egg. Another is to use a plastic egg as a mold and stuff the clay inside. Pop open the top of the plastic egg and then gently tap the clay out. You don't even have to color your clay if you don't feel up to it. You may also use white clay, allow to dry, and then paint them using acrylic paints. Mix two clay colors together before forming into an egg to achieve a marbled effect. Also think about adding embellishments like stickers, ribbon, bows, and flowers to the eggs, much in the same way you would decorate real eggs. To display clay eggs in a vase or to attach to a spring wreath, thread a dowel or piece of florist's wire into the egg before allowing to harden completely. Then attach them as needed. Clay eggs can be used in place of regular eggs in just about every traditional egg use -- except of course for making egg salad! Plus, making clay eggs is a fun and safe craft for all ages.

Cabbage has the right stuff Nutrition experts recommend that you eat cabbage or other cruciferous vegetables — meaning “cross-bearing” from the shape of their flowers, whose four petals resemble a cross — as part of a healthy diet. They suggest you eat at least 2 cups, 3 to 4 times per week. Cruciferous vegetables include cauliflower, cress, bok choy, broccoli and similar green leaf vegetables. I love cruciferous vegetables, but I’ve found cabbage to be the most versatile of the group. Cabbage is a good source of vitamins C and A. When choosing cabbage heads, select those that are firm and dense with shiny, crisp, colorful leaves. Examine the leaves to make sure that they’re free of cracks, bruises and blemishes. Severe damage to the outer leaves means there is probably worm damage or decay in the inner core as well. We enjoy stuffing cabbage leaves with a variety of interesting ingredients. This recipe for Cabbage and Potato Cups makes a great weekday side dish, or a unique appetizer when topped with thin slices of crispy Prosciutto or Parma ham, or bacon crumbles. Remember, eat more cabbage (or other cruciferous vegetables) and improve your health!

Cabbage and potato cups 1 medium onion, diced 2 tablespoons olive or vegetable oil, plus more for drizzling 1 (3 pound) head leafy green cabbage; discolored, damaged or tough outer leaves discarded 1 teaspoon minced garlic

1 1/2 teaspoons salt 1 1/2 teaspoons black pepper 2/3 cup chicken broth or water 2 pounds large boiling potatoes 1 cup buttermilk, shaken 1 cup, coarsely grated, extra-sharp white Cheddar or Pepper Jack cheese 1 tablespoon drained, bottled horseradish 8 tablespoons unsalted butter 3/4 cup Panko or fresh bread crumbs 1. Cook onion in oil in a large, heavy skillet over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until soft and golden, about 6 to 8 minutes. 2. Bring a 6- to 8-quart pot of salted water to a boil. Remove and discard the core of the cabbage and carefully lower the cabbage leaves into the boiling water using a slotted spoon. 3. Boil cabbage about 5 minutes, or until softened. Transfer the largest leaves (at least 6) to a bowl of ice water to stop cooking. Transfer remaining cabbage to a colander to drain. Transfer large leaves to paper towels to drain, then pat dry. 4. Using a nonstick muffin tin with 6 (1-cup) muffin cups, lightly spray each muffin cup or oil with 2 tablespoons of butter. Cut parchment or wax paper into 12 (10- by 2-inch) strips. Put 2 strips in a crisscross pattern in each cup to help with removing cabbage. (You will have a 2-inch overhang.) Line each cup with a large cabbage leaf. Coarsely chop enough remaining cabbage to measure 3 cups, then add to onion along with garlic, 1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper, and water, and cook over moderate heat, stirring occasionally, until cabbage is tender and browned, about 10 minutes.

5. Put oven rack in middle position and preheat oven to 350°F. 6. Peel raw potatoes and cut into 1-inch cubes, then cover with cold salted water by 1 inch in a 2- to 3-quart saucepan and bring to a boil. Cook potatoes until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain in a colander, then set potatoes in colander over saucepan to steam-dry, uncovered, 5 minutes. Using a large bowl and a slotted spoon or potato masher, mix the potatoes with the buttermilk, cheese, horseradish, remaining 6 tablespoons butter and remaining 1 teaspoon salt and pepper until combined well. 7. Fill each cabbage leaf with 2 to 3 tablespoons of mashed potato mixture. Then, place a layer of the sauteed cabbage mixture on the potatoes. Top with remaining potato mixture, and sprinkle evenly with breadcrumbs. Drizzle crumbs with olive oil. Fold edges of cabbage in toward filling (do not completely cover). At this point, you can cover and refrigerate the Cabbage and Potato Cups for 24 hours. Bring to room temperature (about 30 to 45 minutes) before baking. 8. Bake until heated through and edges of cabbage are well browned, 25 to 30 minutes. Transfer stuffed leaves to plates using wax or parchment overhangs. Makes 6 servings. SHORTCUT TIP: If you have at least 2 cups of leftover mashed potatoes, or leftover baked or micro-cooked potatoes, mix them with the rest of the stuffing ingredients to save time.
