Approximately 5000 people gathered Oct. 21 at the Shrine of Our Lady of Martyrs Colosseum in Auriesville to celebrate Kateri Tekakwitha’s canonization.

Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Kateri was born near Auriesville in 1656, the daughter of a Mohawk warrior. She was four years old when her mother died of smallpox, a disease which also attacked Kateri, scarring and disfiguring her face and leaving her vision impaired. Following her mother’s death, she was adopted by two aunts and an uncle. Kateri converted to Christianity as a teenager and was baptized at the age of 20. Her newfound faith incurred great hostility from her tribe. Though she suffered ridicule for her faith, she remained firm in it. Kateri went to the new Christian colony of Indians in Canada, where she lived the remainder of her short life. Here she lived a life dedicated to prayer, penitential practices, and care for the sick and aged. Every morning, even in bitterest winter, she stood before the chapel door until it opened at four and remained there until after the last Mass. She was devoted to the Eucharist and to Jesus Crucified. She died on April 17, 1680 at the age of 24. Being sickly most of her life, the exposure to the harsh weather in the cold northern climate, is believed to have contributed to her early death. She is known as the "Lily of the Mohawks." Devotion to Kateri is responsible for establishing Native American ministries in Catholic Churches all over the United States and Canada. Kateri was declared venerable by the Catholic Church in 1943, Beatified in 1980 by Pope John Paul II and Canonized on Oct. 21, 2012 by Pope Benedict XVI. Hundreds of thousands have visited shrines to Kateri erected at both St. Francis Xavier and Caughnawaga and at her birth place at Auriesville. Pilgrimages at these sites continue today. St. Kateri Teckakwitha is the first Native American to be declared a Saint. Her feastday is July 14. She is the patroness of the environment and ecology, as is St. Francis of Assisi.

October 27, 2012 Hello Again, Well — if you feel the way I do — you must be ready to buy a new TV, mine has the same stuff on it everyday. My friend recommends a Japanese model but I don’t speak Japanese. I walked the dog early this morning hoping I would see or hear a large gaggle of geese, not a single goose. Is it too early in the season for their southern fly? Several extra large Longhorn and Ron Allen trucks passed by. It’s amazing how many of those giant beauties they have and every one shines like brand new. How fortunate this area is to have these two trucking businesses. They must employee 40-50 truck drivers plus mechanics and office help. Can you imagine what their weekly fuel bill must come to? Just think, they must have over 800 tires on the ground every trip. The trucking business is so very important to our area and all of New York State and the Thruway Authority is planning on sticking a knife into the heart of that great business by raising the toll on the Thruway for trucks by over 40 percent. I don’t believe the Thruway Authority needs the raise as much as it needs new management. You think you got problems? How about this? I read, “I have a son in college, and when he’s home there’s no food in the refrigerator and I can’t get food for the refrigerator because there’s no gas in the car. And, I can’t put gas in the car because there’s no money in the sugar bowl, and I can’t put money in the sugar bowl because I have a son in college. Yesterday as we drove off the Thruway exit near Rotterdam, two large yellow Thruway trucks were parked along the road facing the tollbooths. A group of men were standing smoking, some with their hands in their pockets talking — no one was working. That was in the morning. In the afternoon the same type of big yellow trucks were parked along the road facing away from the tollbooths. You guessed it — probably the same men were standing between the trucks — some smoking — all talking — non-working. And the Authority thinks it can solve its financial problems by bleeding the trucking industry. I suggest that some time in between coffee breaks and gab fests they institute a new program called “work break” it would be something new and it might work. The famous humorist, Will Rogers said, “I don’t make jokes — I just watch the government and report the facts”. While I do not think of myself as a humorist, I do see myself as a man, I feel a man should not cry, so while observing our government from the President, Congress, and Political parties on down I feel as though I could swear, but as a Christian I should not do that either. So I take my frustration out on you. I wonder, is the pen mightier then the sword? Until next Hello Again — Keep your faith in God and this country. Soon we will be given the opportunity to put our feelings into action. It will be election day and by voting we have the opportunity to prove we care. Have a wonderful week.

St. Johnsville’s Nifty Needles

by Katie Ranno On the first and third Wednesday of each month, a group called Nifty Needles gathers together at Margaret Reaney Memorial Library to sit, chat, and, as the name suggests, knit and engage in other hand crafts. The program was started six years ago after library director, Dawn Lamphere, had noticed that many local people had an interest in hand crafts. She has also watched many of the people in this program, and in other programs that the library has, come regularly and create friendships with people that, at the start, were total strangers. The library supports the coming together of people in the local area, and, as Dawn said, “It’s just good to be together.” When the regular members of the group were asked what makes them come to

Marybeth Dunbar of Fort Plain, comes to the group to work on her counted cross stitch. Some members, such as Debby Mosher and Carmen Isaac, both residents of Saint Johnsville, like to dabble in both knitting and crochet. Nifty Needles is a program opened to all members of the public. The next meeting is Nov. 7. Nifty Needles meets at the Margaret Reaney Memorial Library at 19 Kingsbury Ave. in St. Johnsville from 10 a.m. to Noon. Maintaining and upgrading existing duct systems Aside from sealing your ducts, the simplest and most effective means of maintaining your air distribution system is to assure that furniture and other objects are not blocking the airflow through your registers, and to vacuum the registers to remove

any dust buildup. Existing duct systems often suffer from design deficiencies in the return air system, and modifications by the homeowner (or just a tendency to keep doors closed) may contribute to these problems. Any rooms with a lack of

sufficient return airflow may benefit from relatively simple upgrades, such as the installation of new return-air grilles, undercutting doors for return air, or installing a jumper duct. Some rooms may also be hard to heat

and cool because of inadequate supply ducts or grilles. If this is the case, you should first examine whether the problem is the room itself: fix any problems with insulation, air leakage, or inefficient windows first. Source: energy.gov

Whatchamacallits This is a replica of Edison’s original incandescent lamp or incandescent light bulb. Contrary to popular belief, Edison didn’t exactly “invent” the light bulb. Despite years of working on the idea, another inventing team beat him to patenting an early model. This is not odd, for many inventors at the time (and before) had been attempting this feat. The idea of a consistent, electric light source was not a new one! Unfortunately, the gentlemen owning the patent ran out of funds and were unable to complete their idea to a successful standard. Edison purchased the rights to their patent and continued his experiments. It is estimated that between 1878 and 1880 Edison and his associates worked on at least 3,000 different theories to develop an efficient incandescent lamp. He once wrote: “The electric

light has caused me the greatest amount of study and has required the most elaborate experiments. I was never myself discouraged, or inclined to be hopeless of success. I cannot say the same for all my associates.” Little has changed in the incandescent light bulb. It is still the typical 60 or 75 watt bulb placed in lamps around

many American homes. However, newer and more efficient bulbs — such as compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) and LED lamps — have begun to phase out the incandescent light bulb, which emanates more heat than its competition does. In some countries, this original light bulb is banned altogether. In 2011, Congress went head-to-head on the U.S.’s stance to that issue, Democrats and Republicans arguing their age-old battle on the role of the government, this time in setting energy efficiency standards. The lightbulb was not banned then, but the country is currently in transition regarding energy efficiency, the new standards set to be completed in 2014. What happens to the incandescent light bulb, between legislation and the Free Market’s preference toward Greener models, remains to be seen.

Collecting by Larry Cox Butter churn Q: Earlier this year, I went to a farm auction in West Texas, where I purchased a Daizy brand butter churn and six crocks of various sizes. I would like to know what they are worth. — Bill, Clarksville, TN A: The Daizy churn

might be worth about $75 if it is in decent condition. The value of the crocks would depend on size, manufacturer and condition. Q: I have a tumbler that was made with Pittsburgh Glass. I have been told that it is quite early. I love the tumbler and want

to learn more about this type of glass. — Susan, Naperville, IL A: According to the 20th edition of Schroeder’s Antiques Price Guide, window glass and hollow ware were being produced in the Pittsburgh area as early as 1797. Coal was used instead of wood to fire the large glass furnaces. At one time, more than 150 glass companies

flourished in the region. During the Victorian era, dozens of free-blown, pattern-molded and flint glass were produced. I suspect your tumbler was probably made sometime during the late 19th to early 20th centuries. Q: I have six copies of Life magazine, including those depicting Martin Luther King’s assassination and funeral, the Marvels of Egypt, and the 1969 Year in Review issue. I also have an Esquire magazine and Harper’s Bazaar, both from 1937. — Pat, Conyngham, PA A: A quick check of several magazine dealers confirmed that most issues of Life magazine from the 1960s are worth an average of about a dollar per issue. Fun, formal and beyond: what the groom wears (ARA) — When you think of a wedding, you probably think of the bride’s dress, the flower arrangements, the food and the music. But what about the groom? More specifically, what about the groom’s attire? It’s his special day, too. So it’s time to devote some attention to him. Think back to all the weddings of decades past. What was the groom wearing as he watched his bride walk down the aisle? Most weddings were formal occasions and the tuxedo ruled the day. But times have changed. One of the reasons for this shift could be the economy says Jane Carlton

Hall, Fashion Design instructor at The Art Institute of Houston. “When it’s time to find a place to cut costs when planning your wedding in this economy, a formal tux is one place couples start,” she says. Hall points out that even if the groom springs for a new suit, it’ll be something he can wear again and again. But other factors also come into play. “Now people are much more creative, with destination weddings and dude ranch weddings, which are popular here in Arizona, and the attire matches the location,” says Elizabeth Heuisler, academic director for Fashion Design and Fashion Marketing at

The Art Institute of Tucson. She advises that grooms still lay out some cash for a new pair of jeans if they wind up saying their “I dos” at a dude ranch. Cyndy McCoy, a Fashion Retail Management instructor at The Art Institute of Fort Worth, a campus of South University adds, “A nice light colored shirt with linen pants and sandals or even barefoot works very well for the groom at a beach wedding.” And even if you are taking a more traditional route and planning a formal evening wedding, you don’t necessarily need a tux. “Nothing dictates that you have to wear a tux,” says McCoy. “A

nice black suit works quite well.” Hall advises that even if you don’t necessarily plan on wearing a tux, a formalwear store is a good place to go for ideas and advice about current trends. Hall says the recent royal wedding in Britain reminds us that classic looks are always in style. McCoy echoes, “You can never go wrong with the classics.” But according to Hall, when all is said and done, the special day is still about the bride. “In my opinion, the groom should dress in the same way that a museum frames a beautiful painting, so as not to detract from the bride.”

Record crowd attends Nelliston Activities Council annual Haunted House by Elizabeth A. Tomlin Nelliston Activities Council (NAC) members once more presented their annual Haunted House, giving a thrill to youngsters and oldsters alike Oct. 20 at the old Nelliston School house. The event has been in existence for nearly 20 years. “We began putting on the Haunted House about 18 years ago,” said NAC charter member L ynda Conrad. “At the time we used Dettmer’s greenhouse and we also had a Halloween parade where the children could dress up in costume and parade around the tennis courts.” Conrad said the cos-

tumes were judged and winners would receive $5. “Some years we gave $5 to all of the participants!” As time has marched on, the costume parade in Nelliston has been discontinued, while neighboring village Fort Plain provides a costume parade instead. In recent years the annual Haunted House has moved to the old Nelliston School on Stone Arabia St., where more room is available. Conrad said a crew of about 30 people were involved with putting the event together this year, including three Girl

area coming back from out of state to join in the fun. “We had people come from Florida, Pennsylvania, New H a m p s h i r e , Massachusetts, and Connecticut,” Conrad said, adding that her daughter and family came up several weekends in a row from Pennsylvania to help set up for the event. “It took us about 3 weeks to get things ready.” Conrad credits Rick and Darlene Hemstreet from Massachusetts for providing a sound system that was used outside the building this year. “It was grand!” Conrad exclaimed. “We had a record crowd of 265 attending! It was wonderful!” Proceeds will benefit the Nelliston Activities Council upcoming events.

Halloween health and safety tips For many people, autumn events like Halloween and Harvest Day are fun times to dress up in costumes, go trick-ortreating, attend parties, and eat yummy treats. These events are also opportunities to provide nutritious snacks, get physical activity, and focus on safety. Check out these tips to help make the festivities fun and safe for trick-ortreaters and party guests. Going trick-or-treating? Swords, knives, and similar costume accessories should be short, soft, and flexible. Avoid trick-or-treating alone. Walk in groups or with a trusted adult. Fasten reflective tape

to costumes and bags to help drivers see you. Examine all treats for choking hazards and tampering before eating them. Limit the amount of treats you eat. Hold a flashlight while trick-or-treating to help you see and others see you. Always WALK and don’t run from house to house. Always test make-up in a small area first. Remove it before bedtime to prevent possible skin and eye irritation. Look both ways before crossing the street. Use established crosswalks wherever possible. Lower your risk for serious eye injury by not wearing decorative contact lenses. Only walk on sidewalks

whenever possible, or on the far edge of the road facing traffic to stay safe. Wear well-fitting masks, costumes, and shoes to avoid blocked vision, trips, and falls. Eat only factorywrapped treats. Avoid eating homemade treats made by strangers. Enter homes only if you’re with a trusted adult. Only visit well-lit houses. Don’t stop at dark houses. Never accept rides from strangers. Never walk near lit candles or luminaries. Be sure to wear flame-resistant costumes. Expecting trick-ortreaters or party guests? • Provide healthier treats for trick-ortreaters such as low-

calorie treats and drinks. For party guests, offer a variety of fruits, vegetables, and cheeses. • Use party games and trick-or-treat time as an opportunity for kids to get their daily dose of 60 minutes of physical activity. • Be sure walking areas

and stairs are well-lit and free of obstacles that could result in falls. • Keep candle-lit jack o’lanterns and luminaries away from doorsteps, walkways, landings, and curtains. Place them on sturdy tables, keep them out of the reach of pets and small children, and

DMV Offers online temporary vehicle registrations Customers can now print a 10-day proof of registration For motorists who have forgotten to renew their vehicle registrations on time, the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles has introduced a new feature that will allow customers to print a temporary 10-day proof of registration when they renew their registration online. “I am pleased to announce that DMV has made yet another addition to our evergrowing, customer friendly list of online services,” said New York State DMV Commissioner Barbara J. Fiala. “We anticipate this new service will be a great convenience for our customers because they will now be able to print a temporary proof of registration from their own computers rather than rushing to a DMV office in a panic because they realize that their registration is about to expire or has already expired.” Although most registrations are renewed through the mail, at an office or online in time to receive a new registration sticker before the old one expired, many times customers either forget about or wait too long before renewing their registrations. In that case, their only option in the past has been to visit a DMV office to register the vehicle. This new service provides customers with a proof of registration that they can display while waiting for their new registration to arrive by mail. The temporary registration is available through the DMV Web site (www.dmv.ny.gov). It is available for most vehicle registration classes including boats, trailers and ATVs. There is no additional charge for the temporary document. After printing the temporary document, customers must display the temporary registration on the driver’s side of the vehicle’s dashboard in addition to the expiring registration sticker until their new sticker arrives. The temporary registration is valid for 10 days from the date the renewal transaction is completed. After the temporary registration expires, the registrant can only operate the vehicle if it displays a valid registration sticker. For vehicles that do not have windshields and dashboards such as motorcycles and trailers, the motorist will be instructed to carry the temp when operating the vehicle. For additional information on online registration renewal and other online services, visit the DMV Web site at www.dmv.ny.gov/transact.htm.

Novelty makeup Painting your face can be a big part of the fun on Halloween and lots of other special occasions. Most of the time people do this without a problem, but not always. Here are some pointers to help keep your fun from leaving you with a rash, swollen eyelids, or other grief. Painting your face: special effects without aftereffects Decorating your face with face paint or other makeup lets you see better than you can if you’re wearing a mask. A mask can make it hard to see where you’re going and watch out for cars. But make sure your painted-

on designs don’t cause problems of their own. • Follow all directions carefully. • Don’t decorate your face with things that aren’t intended for your skin. • If your face paint has a very bad smell, this could be a sign that it is contaminated. Throw it away and use another one. • Like soap, some things are okay on your skin, but not in your eyes. Some face paint or other makeup may say on the label that it is not for use near the eyes. Believe this, even if the label has a picture of people wear-

ing it near their eyes. Be careful to keep makeup from getting into your eyes. • Even products intended for use near your eyes can sometimes irritate your skin if you use too much. • If you’re decorating your skin with something you’ve never used before, you might try a dab of it on your arm for a couple of days to check for an allergic reaction BEFORE you put it on your face. This is an especially smart thing to do if you tend to have allergies. Color Additives: The “FDA OK” (Or, A Little Detective Work Won’t Hurt) A big part of Halloween makeup is color. But this is your skin we’re talking about. Think about what you’re putting on it. You might not want to put the same coloring on your skin that a car company uses in its paint. Luckily, you don’t have to. The law says that color additives have to be approved by FDA for use in cosmetics, including color additives in face paints and other cosmet-

ics that may be used around Halloween time. It also includes theatrical makeup. Plus, FDA has to decide how they may be used, based on safety information. A color that’s okay on your tough fingernails or your hair may not be okay on your skin. Colors that are okay for most of your skin may not be okay near your eyes. How do you know which ones are okay to use, and where? Do some detective work and check two places: 1. The list of ingredients on the label. Look for the names of the colors. THEN... 2. Check the Summary of Color Additives on FDA’s Web site. There’s a section especially on colors for cosmetics. If there’s a color in your makeup that isn’t on this list, the company that made it is not obeying the law. Don’t use it. Even if it’s on the list, check to see if it has FDA’s okay for use near the eyes. If it doesn’t, keep it away from your eyes. For that ghoulish glow There are two kinds of

“glow” effects you might get from Halloween-type makeup. Ready for some ten-dollar words? There are “fluorescent” (say “floor-ESS-ent”) and “luminescent” (say “loo-minESS-ent”) colors. Here’s the difference: Fluorescent colors: These are the make-youblink colors sometimes called “neon” or “dayglow.” There are eight fluorescent colors approved for cosmetics, and like other colors, there are limits on how they may be used. None of them are allowed for use near the eyes. (Check the Summary of Color Additives again.) These are their names: D&C Orange No. 5, No. 10, and No. 11; D&C Red No. 21, No. 22, No. 27 and No. 28; and D&C Yellow No. 7. Luminescent colors: These colors glow in the dark. In August 2000, FDA approved luminescent zinc sulfide for limited cosmetic use. It’s the only luminescent color approved for cosmetic

use, and it’s not for every day and not for near your eyes. You can recognize it by its whitish-yellowishgreenish glow. When the party’s over... Don’t go to bed with your makeup on. Wearing it too long might irritate your skin, and bits of makeup can flake off or smear and get into your eyes, not to mention mess up your pillow and annoy your parents. How you take the stuff off is as important as how you put it on. Remove it the way the label says. If it says to remove it with cold cream, use cold cream. If it says to remove it with soap and water, use soap and water. If it says to remove it with eye makeup remover, use eye makeup remover. You get the picture. The same goes for removing glue, like the stuff that holds on fake beards. And remember, the skin around your eyes is delicate. Remove makeup gently. Source: www.fda.gov.

The flu vaccine provides protection that lasts throughout the flu season. Get vaccinated now so that you will be protected all season long! Wash your hands. Keeping hands clean is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of infection and illness. Keeping hands clean prevents illness at home, at school, and at work. It’s best to wash your hands with soap and clean running water for 20 seconds. If that’s not possible, use alcohol-based hand rubs.

Develop, maintain, and keep good sleep habits. Don’t look a fright this Halloween! Sufficient sleep is not a luxury — it is a necessity — and should be thought of as a “vital sign” of good health. Sufficient sleep is being recognized as an

important aspect to help prevent some chronic diseases, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart

conditions, obesity, and depression. Eat fruits and vegetables. Healthy diets rich in fruits and vegetables may reduce the risk of cancer and other chronic diseases. Fruits and vegetables also provide essential vitamins and miner-

als, fiber, and other substances that are important for good health. Most fruits and vegetables are

naturally low in fat and calories and are filling. Fruits and vegetables are a great healthy snack to serve for Halloween parties. Be smoke-free. Smoking is very harmful to the body, causing many diseases and affecting the health of smokers in general. Even brief exposure to secondhand smoke can be harmful to your health. Quitting smoking has immediate as well as longterm benefits for you and your loved ones. Make your Halloween activities smoke and tobacco-free events. Mulching and other November gardening tips by Charlie Nardozzi, Horticulturist and Leonard Perry, UVM Extension Horticulturist Mulching, protecting young trees, and wrapping evergreens are some of the gardening tips for this month. There’s a window of opportunity for mulching because you want to wait until the ground freezes so you don’t give rodents a hiding place too soon, but if you don’t mulch before the snow accumulates, it won’t get done. If we could rely on constant snow cover, winter mulching would be less necessary, but in the absence of that reliability, we need to provide a winter blanket. This is mainly done for young and unestablished, weak, or less hardy perennials. If a plant is rated for a zone warmer than the one shown for your site, you might consider mulching. An example is crocosmia — a tender summer bulb producing spikes of red (usually) flowers in early summer. Although usually listed as hardy to zone 6, these can be grown even in a

cold zone 3 with plenty of mulch or snow cover. You can find your hardiness zones online from the U S D A (www.usna.usda.gov/Har dzone/index.html). Some plants are better off without any mulch, especially in winter, when it can compact and encourage rotting of the crowns. These include coral bells, delphiniums, oriental poppies, iris, violas, and sedums. To prevent sunscald and frost cracking on young, thin-barked trees, such as maples, wrap the trunks with tree wrap or use white plastic protectors. These materials will reflect the warming rays of the sun so the tree bark doesn’t heat up on winter days, only to be suddenly cooled when the sun sets and the temperatures plummet. Protect young evergreens from winter sun and wind. Set four stakes around a plant close to the branches, then wrap burlap around the outside of the stakes and over the top, and secure it with twist ties poked through the burlap. Make

sure evergreens have a good deep watering before the ground freezes because they continue to respire, albeit slowly, during the winter. The most important help you can provide for your hand tools this fall is to wipe them clean after use and before storing them for winter. Any moist soil left on the blades can encourage rust, and dirt can dull pruner blades. Also wipe wooden handles with linseed oil to keep them from splitting due to dryness. Winterize other gardening equipment by draining water from hoses, storing nozzles inside (so frozen water doesn’t crack them), and adding preservative (from rental and hardware stores) to gas for mowers and other power equipment. Leftover bags of fertilizers and soil amendments will not only tempt mice over the winter, they also can collect moisture and turn lumpy, and paper bags can start disintegrating. lids to store the bags in; they can also make it easier to dispense the material next time you need it. If you keep birds around by feeding them, you should also provide water for them. The only realistic way to do that in winter is to use an elec-

tric birdbath heater that plugs into an outdoor outlet. Or, you might buy a birdbath with heater built into it already. They keep the water just above freezing and don’t endanger the birds. Make sure to check the water every few days to make sure it

hasn’t evaporated, or to clean and replace it. Also make sure these heated units are plugged into a properly grounded and approved outdoor receptacle. Watch for sales on bird seed this month, and stock up for winter now.

Chow Line: Whole grains turn up in surprising places by Martha Filipic Q: A group of us were watching a football game last week, and someone claimed that the tortilla chips we were eating counted as a “whole-grain” food. I find that hard to believe. Is that right? A: It could be. To determine whether a food is “whole grain,” take a look at the ingredients on the food label. You’ll find that many types of tortilla chips and other corn-based snack chips list “whole-grain corn” as the primary ingredient. Whole-grain corn, like whole wheat or other whole grains, is indeed, well, a whole grain. While this could mean the chips are a better choice than a snack made entirely of refined grains, don’t take that as permission to down a family-size package. While the U.S. Dietary Guidelines recommend that at least half the grains we eat should be whole grains, most Americans eat a lot more grain-based foods than we need, period — often more than double what’s recommended. So while it’s a good idea to replace the refined grains we eat with whole grains, it’s just as important to remember to keep total grain consumption in check in the first place. And it’s also important to take into consideration other factors that affect the overall healthfulness of a food: the amount of saturated fat, sodium and added sugars, for example, as well as the number of calories per serving. Whole grains are preferred over refined grains for a simple reason: Calorie for calorie, they offer more nutrition. Whole grains include the entire grain kernel, which provides nutrients including iron, magnesium, selenium, B vitamins and often dietary fiber. Refined grains, on the other hand, have been milled to remove the bran and germ from the grain — this increases their shelf-life and gives the grain a finer texture, but also strips them of most of their nutrients. Most refined grains are enriched with B vitamins and iron to replace some of what was lost in the refining process, but enrichment can’t replace everything. To eat more whole grains, choose: • Foods with the primary ingredient listed as a “whole” grain, such as wheat or corn. • Whole-wheat bread, or bread that contains a good portion of whole grain indicated by being at or near the top of the ingredients list. • Whole-wheat pasta. • Brown rice instead of white. • Oatmeal, rolled oats or whole oats.
