Student Voice
Student Voice is an integral part of college life and plays a pivotal role in ensuring the college is consulting, communicating and reviewing what we do. Careers, Work Experience and Progression
20 KEIGHLEY 22 KEIGHLEYCOLLEGE COLLEGEPARENTS’ PARENTS’ &&CARERS’ CARERS’ GUIDE GUIDE 2020/21 2020/21
We provide an impartial careers service to help students plan their future and achieve their career goals. We offer appointments with impartial careers advisors from Connexions and the National Careers Service bookable through reception and are open to all students. We also plan a number of careers events throughout the year, such as the Higher Education Fair and jobs fairs.
All full-time students undertake work experience as part of their course. This may be a substantial industry placement, Leeds City Region or European work placement, work taster, simulated work environment or social action project. Students can speak to their tutor to find out what type of work experience they’ll be taking part in. If the work experience team is working with a student’s group, they will come to their class to deliver an information session and will work with students to either find a placement to match their interests or support students with finding their own placement.

Who can students ask for help?
The Additional Learning Support Team at Keighley College can offer a wide range of support for students with Special Educational Needs and Disability. We will carry out an assessment that will consider students’ individual learning needs and then create a package of support that is personalised, reviewed and adapted, where required, throughout a student’s course. We provide advice and guidance to tutors so they know how students learn best. 22 KEIGHLEY COLLEGE PARENTS’ & CARERS’ GUIDE 2020/21
It is really important that students tell us about any support that they have had in school e.g. in class, out of class, mentoring, exam access arrangements such as extra time, reader, scribe so we can make sure that students get the support they need.
We want to ensure that students get the most out of their time here and we are committed to supporting all students to achieve to the best of their ability. We will work with students to prepare them for adulthood so they feel confident about living more independently and, where appropriate, gain the skills required for employment. We are an established and experienced team that work flexibly to support students needs in a way that promotes independence wherever possible. Students can speak to their Progress Mentor about any support needs in the first instance.
