Careers, Work Experience and Progression We provide an impartial careers service to help you plan your future and achieve your goals.

We offer appointments with careers advisors from Connexions and the National Careers Service which are bookable through reception and are open to all students. We also plan a number of careers events throughout the year, such as the Higher Education Fair and jobs fairs.

16  KEIGHLEY COLLEGE STUDENT GUIDE 2020/21

All full-time students undertake work experience as part of their course. This may be a substantial industry placement, Leeds City Region or European work placement, work taster, simulated work environment or social action project. Speak to your tutor to find out what type of work experience you’ll be taking part in. If the Work Experience team is working with your group, they will come to your class to deliver an information session and will work with you to either find a placement to match your interests or support you with finding your own placement.

Who can I ask for help? Learning Support Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) support. Are you a student with SEND who may need specialist support? Don’t worry, we’re here to help. Our friendly Learning Support team is here to ensure that everyone has a positive experience at the college and their needs are supported.

18  KEIGHLEY COLLEGE STUDENT GUIDE 2020/21

We will carry out an assessment that will consider your individual learning needs and then create a package of support that is personalised, reviewed and adapted, where required, throughout your course.

We provide advice and guidance to your tutors so they know how you learn best. It is really important that you tell us about any support that you have received in school, for example, in class or out of class mentoring, exam access arrangements such as extra time, reader or scribe requirement, so we can make sure that you get the support you need. We want to ensure that you get the most out of your time here and we are committed to supporting all students to achieve to the best of their ability. We will work with you to prepare you for adulthood so you feel confident about living more independently and, where appropriate, gain the skills required for employment.

We are an established and experienced team that works flexibly to support your needs in a way that promotes independence where possible. Please speak to your progress mentor about any support needs in the first instance.
