SUPPORT WITH DISABILITIES AND LEARNING DIFFICULTIES

If you have a support need or disability, we’ll take an inclusive approach to get you the help and interventions you need to progress – no matter your age or the stage of your learning journey.

We also have a dedicated High Needs team for students who need support with their transition to college. For those with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), our committed team will ensure requirements are put in place and monitored. For more information, see page 30.

SUPPORT WITH FINANCE

Don’t let finance hold you back. At college, there are lots of ways we can support you with course-related costs such as travel passes, free lunches, college equipment, uniforms, childcare and much more. For more information, please visit the Financial and Welfare Support for 16-19 Students page at leedscitycollege.ac.uk.

SUPPORT WITH CHILDCARE

The Care to Learn scheme pays up to £160 per child, per week for student parents aged 20 and under. The college’s Childcare Adviser can help you find a childcare provider and apply for funding.

Older students may be eligible for help with childcare through our student bursary funds.

SUPPORT WITH EXAMS

Readers or scribes are available for students that need additional support during exams. A reader provides a verbal presentation or text to a student who is eligible for this service. A scribe writes, types and records answers for exam questions. Where required, assistive technology, software and/or exams in alternative formats can be provided to accommodate your needs. When the need for a reader or a scribe occurs, a private room and/or extra time for testing can also be given to you.

SUPPORT WITH STUDIES

We offer advice and assistance to you both before and during exams - ensuring you get the support you need and you’re equipped to succeed. If you have any questions, concerns or just need to talk to someone, coaching tutors within each department will be happy to help.

CAREERS SUPPORT

Once you’re a student with us, you can access additional career or progression support. Our Careers, Work Experience & Progression team in Student Life can provide advice and connect you with career advisers.
