We negotiate copyright clearance for the use of music, provide guidance, training, constructive feedback and the opportunity to mix with other film-makers through our network of local clubs and regional bodies in the UK. More especially, we provide a showcase for the work of amateurs, through local clubs, regions and the British International Amateur Film Festival. To fulfill our remit as an educational charity, we are very keen to encourage young people in the field of filmmaking, especially those who work independently without external funding. This is our reason for sponsoring a prize as part of NYFA.

Superhero Science
Leeds Uni, 2pm-3.30pm
This interactive workshop led by Dr Annette Taylor and Dr Mark Wilson from Leeds University looks at the science behind superpowers from genetic mutation to the chilling power of the atmosphere and how scientists try to mimic the real world to achieve remarkable things. The superheroes discussed are: · Spiderman - how does he walk up walls? · Storm from the X-men - how does she freeze objects? · Daredevil - how does he see when he is blind? The workshop involves video-clips, demonstrations and activities with volunteers from the audience.

An innovative ‘magic realist’ documentary set in Iraq. Filmmaker Mark Cousins, who was brought up in a Northern Irish war zone, travels to a Kurdish-Iraqi village and tries to make a dream film about a place that is normally only portrayed in current affairs programmes. He gives the kids cameras. They make little movies about war, love, a fish that goes to a magical place, and a chicken who debates justice.
