BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (MBA) Prepare for a successful career in business and management with an MBA from Leeds Trinity University. You’ll learn from research-active academics with extensive industry experience in a range of international business contexts. They’ll work with you to develop your understanding and knowledge of the key components of business – from strategy, business ethics and corporate social responsibility, to international business.

COURSE OVERVIEW Our approach to learning and teaching is grounded in the most recent research and scholarship related to core management specialisms, as well as current best practice in business. Our lecturing staff will help you develop strong analytical skills, the ability to address complex business problems and how to implement appropriate solutions. We keep our class sizes small so we can give you the personal support you need to flourish – whether you’re a recent graduate or an experienced business professional. You’ll also work closely with employers on two management consultancy projects, which will give you the chance to make employer connections and build your business portfolio. This is a UK-based degree with a global perspective, drawing on a range of case studies, research and theory from across the world. You’ll explore a range of international perspectives, ensuring you graduate with the relevant skills to succeed in today’s global economy. By the time you graduate, you’ll have developed: • advanced knowledge of organisations, their management and the changing external context in which they operate • the ability to apply knowledge and understanding of business and management to complex issues, both systematically and creatively, to improve business and management practice • a wide array of professional skills that will enhance your employability, such as communication, presentation, teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, analysis and decision-making • lifelong learning skills that will enable you to work with self-direction and originality to contribute to business and society at large

COURSE STRUCTURE The modules and delivery structure given below are subject to change and are the latest example of the curriculum available on this course of study. Details of delivery of the full-time MBA studied in one year are given below. For the latest information, including course structure for studying the MBA on a part-time basis over two years, visit leedstrinity.ac.uk Your programme runs throughout the year and comprises Semester One, Semester Two and the Summer period. Each semester is 12 weeks and you will need to commit one day per week (usually timetabled on a Tuesday) to attend your postgraduate business classes. During the Summer period you will be working with your research/consultancy project supervisors according to individually agreed schedules and locations. Each semester you will complete three modules (3 x 20 credits, total 60 credits). Each module has 24 hours of scheduled teaching via lectures and seminars which are normally delivered between 9.00am and 6.00pm each Tuesday. Semester

Human Resources Management Project Management

Modules The Leadership and Professional Development module will support your strategic career planning and the development of your management and leadership capabilities. Core modules such as Financial Strategy and Business Operations, Strategic Marketing and Planning, Operations and Global Supply Chain Management and Corporate and International Strategy integrate a range of business subjects to give you a holistic view on complex real-life business issues at strategic and operational levels. You’ll also complete two individual research modules: Management Consultancy Project 1 and 2 where you’ll have the chance to produce business recommendations, develop client management skills, apply and test your theoretical understanding of management disciplines in a real-life application. You’ll also investigate and resolve practical business issues by using robust and academically grounded research methodologies. The Management Consultancy Project modules also aim to build your in-depth knowledge and understanding in one of five core subject areas: External Environment, People and Organisations, Key Functional Specialism, Customer Orientation or Strategy. You can align the project with your particular area of interest. You’ll also be able to specialise further via the option modules available. 5


MA INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS Take your career global with an MA International Business. We’ll guide you through the fast-paced world of International Business by exploring three key themes: the global/local marketplace, international customers and international strategy development.

COURSE OVERVIEW You’ll learn from research-active academics with extensive industry experience in a range of international business contexts. Their approach to learning and teaching is based on contemporary international business concepts and case studies, and they’ll work with you to develop analytical approaches needed to solve complex problems and implement appropriate solutions. On this course, you’ll look at the increasing significance of the global/local marketplace, including traditional export/import operations, international expansion and e-commerce. You’ll gain an understanding of international customers and their requirements, focusing on customer relationship management, customer service and cross-cultural management issues associated with diverse international business teams. You’ll also learn about International Business strategy development, including acquisitions, international partnerships, global supply chains and joint ventures. Our approach to International Business is interdisciplinary, covering key business principles such as strategy, operations and global supply chain management, retailing and services marketing, and leadership and professional development. We focus on complex social and economic activities in the international context, looking at how to achieve stakeholder objectives. By the time you graduate, you’ll have developed: • advanced knowledge of organisations, their management and the fast-changing international context • your ability to apply knowledge and understanding of international business and management to complex issues, both systematically and creatively, to improve business and management practice • a wide array of professional skills that will enhance your employability, such as communication/ presentation, teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, analysis and decision-making • lifelong learning skills that will enable you to work with self-direction and originality to contribute to business and society at large

Modules The Leadership and Professional Development module will support your strategic career planning and the development of your management and leadership capabilities. Other core modules such as International Business, Operations and Global Supply Chain Management, Corporate and International Strategy and International Marketing and Management aim to give you an in-depth understanding of fundamental international business areas. Theory and practice are integrated through the extensive use of UK and international case studies and real business examples. You will also get the chance to develop a specialism through the option modules which you can extend further in your organisation-based research project. You’ll complete the Business Research module and a Research Project/Dissertation, ideally in conjunction with an appropriate business organisation. This will allow you to generate business recommendations and conduct research in the same way that professional management researchers and consultants might operate. 7


LEARNING, TEACHING AND ASSESSMENT Whichever pathway you choose, the teaching and learning across our postgraduate Business courses will give you the opportunity to reflect on your knowledge, experience and practice, particularly through a process of peer interaction and teamwork. The integration of UK and international case studies within our modules will bring an international and cross-cultural dimension to your learning. This will make you more self-aware, with the ability to modify and develop your own business practice as well as work in diverse teams in an international business context. You’ll benefit from the experience and expertise of management and business practitioners as guest speakers, visiting lecturers and potential employers to help facilitate your progression into a management or international business career.

Assessment You’ll be assessed on your ability to present an academic argument, the application of theory into practice and the demonstration of a practical and integrative approach to a problem or issue. A range of assessment methods will be used, which may include: • case studies, market analysis and business reports • individual and team presentations • business and marketing project plans • business project portfolio • research project report or dissertation

Entry requirements Leeds Trinity University is committed to recruiting students with talent and potential and who we feel will benefit greatly from their academic and non-academic experiences here. Candidates are expected to hold an honours degree (minimum 2:2) in any discipline.
