ADAPT
“Multi Mill NL Architects Amsterdam 2010
This structure, once built, will act as a cultural meeting place. Its location is one that is in the middle of a transformation of its own, so the adaptability of this structure is very fitting. It can be used as both a stage for viewing or a stand for the viewers; or, of course, both. It can change its shape, based on the desired function, to become an ideal outdoor space for events in fashion, music, film, etc.

GREET
Zamet Centre 3LHD Rijeka, Croatia 2009
This public building’s most noteable features are the strips of the building that seem break down from the roof and crawl fown from the level of the roofline to meet the ground in the form of a plaza. The focus here is on the community- inspiration for this is taken directly from the program which includes a library, civic center and sports hall; among others. The plaza serves asa perfect place to hold special events. The stairs “ greet ” the community to guide people in for big events as well as welcoming them on a day to day basis.

PERSONAL
Neighborhood Park Cino Zucchi Architetti San DonĂ di Piave, Italy 2005-07
This park attempts to to define spaces for personal use and highlight the importance of public space as a catalyst for urban life. The park creates a gentle flow of circulation that transforms itself into spaces to sit, bike, etc. The whole thing is read as one material and suggests that one can make the space into something they want as opposed to something that is set in stone.

BOLD
Sperone Westwater gallery Foster + Partners Bowery, NYC, NY 2010
This gallery uses strong vertical elements to stand apart from its neighbors. It makes use of its compact site by rising above in a strong vertical motion and a using a “moving gallery. The moving gallery allows for changeable exhibition spaces and engages the user in the exhibit. The moving gallery can be seen from the street and animates the dynamic urban area around it.

EXTEND
Architect’s Studio Svendborg Architects Denmark 2010
This studio is built inside an existing building, with the new structure extending the space within the existing walls upward. The overall look is that of a prism coming out of the exisiting building. The materials and shapes employed were designed in keeping with the other stables on the site. The new design offers a completely new spatial feeling with only a few small changes to the original structure being made.
optimized daylight with skylights designed to reflect off of mirrors on the ceiling.

TRANSPARENT
London City Hall Norman Foster London, England, UK 2002
This government building understands that a government serves the people. The whole building, including the offices that look directly ontp the main circulation are transparent. The idea is that it is the people’s governent and, while they may not actively use this building, they can see what is going on in it- almost like an aquarium. There is a seperate area outside of the building that is for the public to use but it does not engage the user with the building. In a community building these two elements could be combined to create a stronger connection. A building that allows you to see inside and is welcoming at the ground level will be more inviting and more successful as a building meant for the community.
