WICKED

One of the most anticipated arrives at the Nederlander Theater this fall: Wicked! The delightfully thought-provoking and toe-tapping show takes the well-known story of The Wizard of Oz and turns it on its head. What if Dorothy, not the witch, was actually the bad guy? With famous songs like “Defying Gravity” and “Popular,” tickets will go fast, so be sure to snap them up while you can.

THE LION KING

It seems autumn in Chicago will be full of iconic performances. The Lion King is also slated to begin performances in November. Kids and adults alike can ogle the award-winning costumes and, of course, sing along to the emblematic songs from the Disney movie.

Both The Lion King and Wicked! are presented by Broadway in Chicago, the premier theater company in the city. They frequently offer discounts and special deals through their website and social media, including $25 on the 25th, which advertises $25 tickets to shows each 25th of the month. THE THEATER WIT

For smaller alternatives, look at options outside the Loop. The Theater Wit in Lakeview is offering multiple shows in its many auditoriums this season, including Chagall in School, a comedy about artist Marc Chagall, STEW, a play focusing on secrecy and family, and The Locusts, a serial killer thriller.

THE STEPPENWOLF

And no theater lover’s time in Chicago would be complete without a visit to the famous Steppenwolf. While there are always a myriad of interesting shows happening at Steppenwolf, the Chicago premiere of The Most Spectacularly Lamentable Trial of Miz Martha Washington promises to make audiences think about the racist history of the country while also examining the myths surrounding the founding of America.
