Your Location

At Lees-McRae College, academics reach far beyond the classroom. Nestled in the stunning Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, our campus is surrounded by a natural laboratory which our students take advantage of everyday. At 4,000 feet above sea level, Lees-McRae is the highest campus on the east coast, offering miles of hiking, running and biking trails on campus. Many of our students enjoy activities including hiking, camping, climbing, repelling, kayaking, fishing, skiing and snowboarding. The Banner Elk community also offers festivals, theatre events, concerts, dining, shopping and much more. Wildlife Biology students have access to our 70 acre Elk Valley Preserve and Ecology Field Station where they work hands-on with local habitats and conduct research. The May Wildlife Rehabilitation Center at Lees-McRae houses the Blue Ridge Wildlife Institute in which our Wildlife Rehabilitation students work with more than 1,000 animals each year. Our location in ski country allows Athletic Training students the opportunity to observe the Emergency Room during ski season while also working directly with our own Lees-McRae student athletes on campus.

Lees-McRae College is a residential campus, spanning over 460 acres in a beautiful mountain valley. Students are required to live on campus in one of our 11 residence halls, which include cottages, suites, apartments, houses, halls and our Honors Cottage. Students enjoy many benefits like wireless internet, cable television, laundry facilities, student lounges, two workout facilities and ample green space to enjoy the mountain air, explore and study.

In the fall, Lees-McRae students, faculty and staff celebrate Mountain Day, an opportunity for the entire campus community to come together. In the spring, Lees-McRae celebrates Mountain Day of Service, a day reserved for the campus community to complete service projects, resulting in more than 2,200 hours of service each year.
