Extended Campus Programs
Why should I choose Lees-McRae College? The four-year degree in Birth-Kindergarten Education is designed for students who already have a two-year degree in Early Childhood Education. This full-time program takes two years to complete and results in a BS in Birth-Kindergarten Education. Classes are scheduled in the evening two days per week and are taught by highly qualified faculty. Classroom observation, assisting and student teaching takes place in the student’s own community. For those who have already completed a four-year degree in Elementary Education and a two-year degree in Early Childhood Education, we offer a one-semester BirthKindergarten Add-On Certification consisting of 18 hours of coursework. For those with a four-year degree in Elementary Education but not a two-year degree in Early Childhood Education, we can tailor a combination of courses taken through your local community college and through Lees-McRae College to help you meet the requirements for the BirthKindergarten Add-On.
This program is offered on the campus of: Surry Community College (starting Fall 2014)
Our Commitment to You Through a liberal arts curriculum, the faculty and staff of Elementary Education are committed to develop teachers as professionals who can counsel wisely, demonstrate reflective teaching, impart knowledge, and recognize the importance of educating the whole teacher who will interact ethically and humanely with others in the workplace and community. Among the many distinctions of Lees-McRae’s Elementary Education program, the Reflective Framework is perhaps the greatest. Simply put, it’s a process that encourages students to reflect on every aspect of the learning and teaching experience.
