Welcome to the Bobcat Club!

CID#

The Bobcat Club is an organization providing assistance and support to student-athletes within the Lees-McRae College 17-sport NCAA Division II athletics program. As our coaches work hard to build strong and competitive programs, it is gratifying to know the members of the Bobcat Club are there for financial and moral support.

In these economic times, the costs incurred operating athletics programs continue to increase. Your financial contribution will benefit the 300-plus student-athletes competing in intercollegiate athletics at Lees-McRae College. This past year was another solid year for the Bobcats. Cycling won their 10th National Championship (Cyclo-Cross); we had five student-athletes named Scholar Athletes of the Year by Conference Carolinas; two Coaches of the Year; we finished fourth in the Joby Hawn Cup for top athletic department in the conference; and our student-athletes had an overall grade point average of 2.98!

From the Athletic Director

Student-athletes also found themselves volunteering in the community, taking leadership roles on campus, and proving they are truly role models. In order for us to continue to be the training ground for future leaders, we need your help and support. Our bleachers in the gymnasium are old, a turf field would be awesome, and an indoor training facility could help us weather the Banner Elk winters! For those who can’t come to Banner Elk and see what we are doing, please take time to check us out online at www.lmcbobcats.com. There is something new and exciting added daily. Find us on Facebook for updates at Lees-McRae Athletics. You can follow all of our teams online, and many matches with live stats via our webcasting capabilities. On behalf of our coaches, administrators, staff and studentathletes, thank you for your support. GO BOBCATS!

Here are a few of our recent successes: • Sportsmanship Awards – Our men’s cross country and women’s lacrosse teams received inaugural Conference Carolinas Team Sportsmanship Awards. Lees-McRae College senior Martha Peacock (Mooresville, N.C.) was selected as the 2010-11 Conference Carolinas Female Sportsmanship Award recipient. • Coaches of the Year – Head Softball Coach Merritt Yackey was named Coach of the Year from Conference Carolinas and Indoor Track and Field Coach Ley Fletcher received Coach of the Year honors from the United States of America Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association. • Scholar Athletes – The Bobcats excelled in the classroom as well as the courts and fields as four student-athletes captured five different scholar athlete awards: Hannah Henderson (Canvas, W. Va.) for Cross Country and Track & Field, Whitney Justice (Connelly Springs, N.C.) for women’s volleyball, Travis VanHoy (Olin, N.C.) for men’s tennis and Christine Vanard (Winston-Salem, N.C.) for women’s tennis. • National Champs, Again! – The cycling team captured its tenth national title in program history in December, earning the 2010 Collegiate Cyclo-cross National Championship. The national crown marks Lees-McRae’s fourth Division I championship in Cyclo-cross in the last five years, including a stretch of three-straight titles from 2006-2008. It is also the tenth team national championship in program history, and the sixth since the school ascended to the Division I level. • National Player of the Week – Senior Chad Mercado (Orlando, FL) was named National Volleyball Player of the Week on March 7, 2011 by Sport Imports/AVCA Men’s Division I-II. • Minute with Mac – LMC Athletic Director Craig McPhail goes viral with more than 5,000 views of athletics’ weekly show “Minute with Mac”.
