At Lees-McRae College, academics reach far beyond the classroom. Nestled in the stunning Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, our campus is surrounded by a natural laboratory which our students take advantage of everyday. At 4,000 feet above sea level, Lees-McRae is the highest campus on the east coast, offering miles of hiking, running and biking trails on campus. Many of our students enjoy activities including hiking, camping, climbing, repelling, kayaking, fishing, skiing and snowboarding. The Banner Elk community also offers festivals, theatre events, concerts, dining, shopping and much more. Wildlife Biology students have access to our 70-acre Elk Valley Preserve and Field Station where they work hands-on with local habitats and conduct research. The May Wildlife Rehabilitation Center at Lees-McRae houses the Blue Ridge Wildlife Institute in which our Wildlife Rehabilitation students work with more than 1,300 animals each year. Our location in ski country allows Athletic Training students the opportunity to observe the local emergency room during ski season while also working directly with our own Lees-McRae student-athletes on campus.
