I’m passionate about creative problem solving, ideation and communication through creating concepts and designs that exemplify ideas, topics and imagination. Many of my original designs originate from my appreciation for color, geometry and serif type that are clear and simple--but elegant and present. My long-term goal for my career is to fully utilize my creativity to the best of its ability with my work, while continuing to learn and grow through my experiences.

VE Studio is a fictitious multimedia studio that specializes in 3D/2D animation, and design for commercial and artistic purposes. The VE in the name stands for “visual excellence”, which is the central goal of the studio and the products it produces. To further exemplify the visual concept of this company concept, the logo is an abstract eye, with the letters “V” and “E” creating the iris. This body of work was made with the ideas in mine of a cutting edge studio that prides itself in creativity, uniqueness and I envision this brand being in the same field as studios such as Laika or Brazen Animation.

In the dictionary, the word, “catalyst”, means “a person or thing that precipitates an event or change”. This hypothetical magazine would be a medium to celebrate “the catalysts” of the art world, whether they are revered or underrated. Catalyst Magazine is a fictitious magazine for artists, by artists. It’s a magazine that celebrates contemporary illustration, graphic design and art, while also allowing the voices of the artists to shine through by interviews, spolight segments, contests and social media engagement. My goal for this project collection was to create a body of images and graphics that shared the particular “look and feel” of a contemporary magazine but also shines in its own identity.

The Dallas Society of Visual Communications (DSVC) was founded in 1957 as the Dallas/Fort Worth Art Directors Club. Over the years, the DSVC has grown to become one of the largest independent clubs of its kind. Along the way it has continually sought to elevate the standards of the graphic arts industry and promote the value that creative professionals add to commerce and the community at-large. This past April, DSVC recognized Wade College as School of the Month. Faculty and students were treated to an exceptional presentation at the Angelika Film Center by Eric Ogden, photographer & director based in Brooklyn, NY. His portfolio includes stunning portraits of top celebrities (like Jamie Foxx, Robert De Niro and Amy Adams), beautiful landscapes and figures, and photographs in ads for several major news and sports networks and magazines. His photos have appeared in Esquire, The New York Times Magazine and Fast Company among many others. Commercially, he has collaborated with several agencies and TV networks as well brands like Amazon, Nissan and Nike. Wade students enjoyed being spotlighted as school of the month, and learning from such a distinguished professional.

Professor Webster teaches a variety of Visual Communication courses at Wade, mentors graduating portfolio students, and runs weekly “Crash Course” labs to help make the Adobe suite accessible to all students. This summer, Webster’s work titled “karmique” was selected for a juried show at The Fort Works Art Gallery in Fort Worth. The show, Paper Works, featured selected artists working in the medium of paper, and was juried by Allison Hearst, a curator from the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. Professor Webster has a vast educational and professional career. He received his first degree in fine art at the University of Cincinnati and then completed a stint in the U.S. Army as a journalist, which gave him some European stickers on his suitcase. After the Army, he worked as an apprentice to journeyman in the trade of offset lithography and then took those skill sets back to a drawing board and added photography to the mix. This experience provided a foundation for Webster’s career in design to launch as the first shots were fired in the digital revolution. Freelancing in New York City as a designer, illustrator, and production artist led to roles in the advertising world as Studio Manager, Interactive Production Manager, General Manager, Director of Operations, and Vice President of Delivery Solutions. Through all of this, Webster continued to expand his skill and understanding of the responsibilities of the graphic designer and artist. When the dotcom boom and bust came and went, Webster was left with a tideline worthy of examination, reflection and reevaluation. The culmination of these ponderings led Webster to teaching graphic design, and gave him a fervent desire to return to what had been a driver for the initiation of this journey – making art. In order to continue down this path, he decided to return to study. This time, he pursued an MA in a hybrid of disciplines, Illustration Design at Savannah College of Art and Design. The resulting work of this study would alter his thinking about visual expression and communication, graphic design and his own art. Congratulations on this most recent achievement and recognition of your art, Professor Webster!
#beamountainmover: Visual Communications Student Lands Design Job Since her first day at Wade College, Christy Rippin has made it her mission to get involved in her industry, engage with her DFW community, and be a leader on campus. In addition to working toward her degree in visual communication, Christy has served on the student council, and interned in the Dallas Arts District. Most recently, she has applied her business and creative skills to full-time employment at Mustard Seed Jewelry; “I am so blessed beyond measure to work for Mustard Seed Jewelry and to be a mountain mover with the founder daily. Big things are on the horizon with this company and I’m excited to be a part of it all.” The founder of Mustard Seed Jewelry, Marcie Ditto, is a well-established graphic designer in Fort Worth, and owner of local design and marketing firm, Marcie Finney Designs. In 2015, she launched Mustard Seed Jewelry, a Christian company promoting the belief that with faith, anyone can be a “mountain mover.” Traditionally, the mustard seed is a symbol of faith, representing the idea that a tiny amount of faith can be enough to move a mountain. Each hand-crafted unique piece in this collection of rings, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets maintains the mustard seed as backdrop for gems and jewels. As a graphic designer, Christy was drawn to the thoughtful detail and quality of the brand’s image as represented through its packaging and design. In addition to the empowering message of the mustard seed, each piece of jewelry is packaged with a set of inspirational postcards, designed by Ditto, and an envelope of seed cash, containing two $1 bills. This seed cash comes with a challenge to the recipient; give away the money through a random act of kindness, and brighten someone’s day! It is a busy and exciting time for Christy at Mustard Seed; “We are now so busy preparing for upcoming events, television appearances, hosting parties in our studio, and fulfilling orders from customers and stores nationwide; it’s incredible. What is even more incredible is what I have found in Marcie. She is a spectacular boss, a wise design counsellor and a soul mentor at a company I am proud to be a part of.” We are so thrilled to see Christy passionately using her talents at this organization, and can’t wait to see where this opportunity takes her!
