SCHUTT HELMET TECHNOLOGY

We design our helmets to perform well over a wide range of temperatures. To research the temperatures experienced inside helmet padding, Hotheads Technology, Inc. of Dallas, Texas gathered temperature data by installing sensors inside the pad systems of multiple football helmets and recorded the real-time temperatures of the pads during on-field play. The graph below contains football helmet temperature data gathered at an NCAA BCS college practice in Texas during August. The graph clearly shows that temperatures of multiple pads significantly exceeded ambient temperatures and, in some cases, reached as high or higher than 123°F (the maximum reading that the sensors would provide). Additional helmets experienced similar temperature trends to those shown on the graph, but the graph is simplified for presentation purposes.

There are too many variables that cause concussions for a football helmet to address them all. Helmets can manage force and impact by attenuating it. The above data at different temperatures provides some insight into the helmets’ ability to absorb and attenuate impact at different temperatures. As temperatures inside the helmet vary over a wide range, the performance of Schutt TPU Cushioning remains more consistent when compared to the performance of foam padding and other cushioning systems, as demonstrated above.

Helmets made from PCA are made from a strong and durable polycarbonate alloy, built to withstand the harder hitting that comes with bigger and older players at more advanced levels of football. Used in all Schutt varsity helmets.

Lighter than those made with polycarbonate. ABS helmets are ideal for smaller players taking less powerful hits. This also helps keep young players from dropping their heads late in the game. Used in all Schutt youth helmets.

The bold, high-powered Vengeance helmet shell has been reimagined and re-designed to offer a sleek, lightweight lower profile.

A helmet’s standoff is the space between the player’s head and the helmet shell. Large standoff helmets allow us to insert thicker TPU cushioning, which means greater impact absorption and performance.

HELMET FITTING GUIDE NON -INFLATABLE HELMETS: FOLLOW RED STEPS ONLY INFLATABLE HELMETS: FOLLOW RED AND BLUE STEPS

STEP 1 Measure the player’s head as shown, 1” above the eyebrows around the widest part of the head, using the chart on helmet pages for size guideline.

STEP 3 Helmet’s front edge and nose bumper should be approximately 1” above the player’s eyebrows.

STEP 2b

STEP 2a Lubricate the pump needle generously and Insert needle as shown. Do not force the needle into the port; doing so may puncture the liner’s opposite wall.

Begin with bottom inflation port on back of helmet. Perform 1-3 pumps. Helmet should be snug against player’s head but not overly tight. Excess air is released with valve.

STEP 4 Attach chin strap to the helmet underneath the faceguard, never above it. Tighten chin strap to be snug and centered on the chin.

STEP 2c When finished, repeat for top inflation port. Proper inflation will usually require 0-2 pumps, but that will vary.

STEP 6

STEP 5 Jaw pads should be snug against the player’s face, flush with his jaw, without pushing too forcefully into his cheeks.

The helmet should fit snugly, without being too tight. There should be no independent movement of the helmet.

For best results, we recommend using a Schutt Helmet Pump. Get yours on page 55!

Relentless Dedication to the Shoulder Pad. Helmets may be the star of the show on the field, but shoulder pads are a vital piece of a playerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s performance. Built for both dishing out a hit and absorbing one, the shoulder pads are a deep-rooted component of a playerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s on-field performance. And those shoulder pads better be up to the task. Like ours.

AIR MAXX FLEX 2.0 AIR MANAGEMENT SYSTEM The protective shoulder pad cushion is made of open cell foam with microscopic air chambers. The outside fabric is sealed to the foam trapping the air inside the cushion. When impact occurs on the shoulder pad arch the load is spread. The impact causes the arch to engage the cushion, which forces the air within the cushion to move throughout the foam chambers dissipating the pressure. The impact energy is dispersed over a larger area reducing the amount of force impacting the body.

TPU CUSHIONING Air Maxx TPU Cushioning that is used in our best performing helmets is featured in our Air Maxx Flex 2.0 Shoulder Pad Series. TPU Cushioning is positioned over the shoulders providing enhanced impact absorption. Air Maxx TPU is durable and will not break down – even after thousands of impacts.

ENERGY LOCK TECHNOLOGY POWERED BY D30® Energy Lock Technology powered by D3O® is a lightweight, soft, and flexible material featuring unique molecular properties. In standard conditions its molecules flow freely, but on impact, they lock together to absorb impact energy and reduce the force transmitted. The material is rate sensitive, so the harder the impact, the greater the resistance to the force. Our D3O® technology is strategically positioned over the shoulder for optimal impact absorption.

CLAVICLE CHANNEL SYSTEM System absorbs impact specifically around the AC joint and provides maximum shoulder protection. The hook and loop pad attachments can be re-positioned or removed to ensure a precise fit and complete coverage in the key hitting areas.

TACTICAL ARCH DESIGN High performance arch designs minimize weight without sacrificing hitting zone protection. Keeps cushions in proper hitting position with less “upward” movement of shoulder pads. Epaulets and caps (low profile) eliminate“grab” points and create better overall performance. Position specific arches include QB/WR, Skill for RB/DB, All Purpose for FB/LB/TE and OL/DL with Non-Epaulet design. Raised corrugations for additional strength and increased air flow.

OTHER FEATURES Flat Pad Design is low profile for improved mobility. BIOTHANE™ belts create a snug and secure fit while securing the shape of the arch to maximize range of motion. STEP 1

Identify player position, and select the corresponding Schutt Shoulder Pads. Refer to the product guide on page 87.

STEP 5

Buckle belts, and connect any straps that your shoulder pad uses. Ensure a good tight fit in chest and back areas.

Measure shoulder span from right to left tips of the humerus.

STEP 6

Ensure proper front coverage by confirming that shoulder pads cover the sternum, as well as front upper shoulders.

STEP 3

Wrap measuring tape around playerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s torso to measure chest circumference.

STEP 7

Check to ensure that there is no pinching in collar area.

STEP 4

Carefully lower the pads over the playerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s head.

STEP 8

In the back, pads should cover the scapula and rhomboid areas. Fitted properly, shoulder pads should allow player maximum motion.
