“ROADMAP TO REENTRY” FREE LEGAL TRAINING
WHEN: Wednesday, September 16, from 9:00AM 5:00 PM, with a break for lunch (not included). WHERE: VernonCentral/LATTC WorkSource Center Los Angeles TradeTechnical College 400 W. Washington Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90015 WHO: People in reentry, their loved ones and advocates, including community service providers, educators, attorneys, community supervision departments, and community members. WHAT WILL BE COVERED: Root & Rebound's "Roadmap to Reentry" Trainings teach participants how to use the “Roadmap to Reentry: A California Legal Guide" in their daily life and work, and give a broad overview of the materials and resources in the guide. The guide, a brand new California reentry resource published in May 2015, is a comprehensive legal resource, written in simple language, with a clean, easytouse format and design. It covers how to prepare for, identify, understand, and navigate major legal barriers across 9 areas of law and civic life: Identification, Key Documents & Voting; Parole & Probation; Housing; Employment; Family & Children; Education; Public Benefits; CourtOrdered Debt; and Understanding & Cleaning Up Criminal Records. It also touches on Immigration issues throughout the chapters. In addition to teaching participants how to utilize the guide in their daily life and work, and giving a broad overview of legal barriers and how to navigate them, and the trainings cover selected subjects in greater detail based on the interests of the participants. The format of the trainings includes both lecture and interactive Q&A discussions. (Note for attorneys: MCLE credit is in the works, but is not yet confirmed!) This training is presented in partnership with the Employment Committee/Los Angeles Regional Reentry Partnership (LARRP), Center for Living & Learning, Friends Outside in Los Angeles County, Coalition for Responsible Community Development, VernonCentral/LATTC WorkSource Center, and Los Angeles TradeTechnical College. THE GUIDE: Attendees will need a copy of the “Roadmap to Reentry” guide to fully participate in the training activities. Guides will be available to borrow for use during the training for those who do not wish to purchase one. For professionals who intend to use the guide in their work (including nonprofit, government, and private organizations), the guide is available to purchase for a sliding scale price of $20 to $50 per guide. Your contribution will help ensure that the guide is free for people in reentry and their loved ones. For currently or formerly incarcerated people using the guide on their personal journey, as well as for their family, friends, and loved ones, the guide will be provided for free.
