ELITE EMITTERS & ELECTRONICS // An illumination tool is only as good as its light source, also known as an emitter. We use only the very best state-of-the art emitters, primarily light emitting diodes, or LEDs as they’re commonly known. Then we regulate these LEDs with sophisticated electronics that help squeeze out every lumen of output and monitor the power source to maximize the useful runtime of the illumination tool. So you get the light you need when you need it.

OPTIMIZED OPTICS // Our precision optics—many of them patented—take an emitter’s light and shape it to create just the right beam for the task at hand. Parabolic reflectors, depending on their shape and depth, shape beams ranging from broad with a wide field of vision, for closer-range tasks, to narrow with extended reach, for longer-range applications. The broad, perfectly tapered MaxVision Beam™ used on some of our illumination tools, such as our headlamps and WristLights, is created by a tiny reflector with precisely engineered facets and undulations. Proprietary Total Internal Reflection (TIR) lenses—which we spent years and millions of dollars perfecting—focus and project most all of an LED’s light forward, creating a near-perfect mix of reach and surround illumination not possible with similarly sized reflectors.

OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE THROUGH SOPHISTICATED ELECTRONICS // Our LED illumination tools contain sophisticated microprocessors programmed to harness the variable-output capabilities inherent in LED technology. Set by our knowledgeable engineers, they deliver the ultimate balance of light output and runtime—to optimize the performance traits of a given model—and take full advantage of our advanced switching technology. These same microprocessors also carefully monitor batteries for charge level and safety while also managing thermal issues associated with LEDs, which produce significant heat. So power input is continuously monitored and adjusted to manage a light’s operating temperature. Expertly crafted heat sink designs that take on and rapidly dissipate heat also help minimize operating temperatures.

ROBUST BODIES // Whether hewn from strong, lightweight aerospace-grade aluminum; molded from non-conductive, corrosion-proof polymer; or assembled with both materials, the bodies of our illumination tools are tough as nails and heavy-duty, but never heavy! SureFire bodies feature knurling, sculpting, or molding for a secure grip in most any conditions, and all of our aluminum bodies are coated with a tough, attractive Mil-Spec Type III hard-anodized finish. To protect the electronics inside, which are waterproof coated and feature goldplated and other non-corroding metals, bodies are O-ring and gasket sealed to keep out moisture, dust, and dirt. Beautiful and functional— it’s enough to give all other flashlights body-image disorders.

SENSIBLE, SUPERB SWITCHING // In the 1980s, we revolutionized flashlight switching by introducing the tactical tailcap switch, and we’ve been setting the gold standard ever since. Today our illumination tools feature a wide variety of switching, each and every type ergonomic, intuitive, and the right choice for the products they grace. like on our FirePak™, SureFire switching ensures there’s no fumbling around to power up the light, and that the light delivers the desired output each and every time it’s activated.

POTENT POWER PACKS & BETTER BATTERIES // We pioneered the use of compact, energy-dense 123A batteries, and the majority of our illumination tools continue to be powered by them to this day. That’s because there are multiple advantages to using these batteries—including they’re more affordable—so long as they’re SureFire-brand batteries purchased from SureFire or an authorized SureFire retailer. We also use several other power sources suited for our illumination tools, including AA and AAA lithium, and NiMH batteries; rechargeable lithium-ion batteries; and rechargeable Eneloop AA and AAA NiMH batteries. For added convenience, we even make illumination tools that are dual-fuel capable, meaning they can run off of rechargeable or disposable batteries. Sophisticated microprocessors optimize an illumination tool's performance.
