Legend Elite Advancement Project (L.E.A.P.) is our proprietary, in-house research program. It validates data on hybrid genetic performance over time and agronomic placement. Our L.E.A.P. plots are used for product evaluation, selection, and positioning on the right soil type and in the right geography to consistently deliver high value products to growers. Since 2014, we’ve conducted 78,168 replicated corn trials across 57 locations. As a result of our rigorous testing, we advance only the elite hybrids into our line-up, averaging 19 new products per year out of the thousands we tested.

ALFALFA Depending on your goals and operation needs, we offer two Roundup Ready®, two conventional, and two blended alfalfa products. HarvXtra® Alfalfa is the industry’s first genetically enhanced alfalfa technology developed to maximize quality compared to conventional alfalfa at the same stage of maturity, by reducing the amount of lignin in the plant. It gives growers the ability to better manage the

yield-versus-quality tradeoff, and others more flexibility in cutting schedule to achieve improved forage quality or greater yield potential, when compared to conventional alfalfa at the same stage of maturity. The Roundup Ready® Alfalfa system provides the opportunity to deliver unsurpassed weed control with superior crop safety, allowing you to grow more, higherquality alfalfa.

STEPS TO SUCCESSFUL ALFALFA SEEDING SITE SELECTION:

SOIL FERTILITY AND PH:

► Alfalfa prefers well–drained, deep soils

► A soil test should be done prior to field preparation to determine the fertility needs

► Avoid hilltops, shallow and highly eroded soils, and fields with low spots where water is known to pool ► Following alfalfa in the rotation with newly seeded alfalfa is not advisable due to autotoxicity SEEDBED PREPARATION: ► Providing a proper seedbed to ensure good seed– to–soil contact is the goal ► Good seed–to–soil contact is essential for uniform emergence SEEDING RATE: 12-20 lbs. pure live seed (PLS) per acre SEEDING DEPTH:

► Fertility management ensures good stands and vigorous growth o Soil pH is extremely important in establishing alfalfa and in high production acres • Maintain soil pH between 6.7 and 6.9 since soil nutrients are most available within this range

o Phosphorus is critical to healthy root development and stand establishment

o Potassium is needed for good plant growth, high yields, and winterhardiness

o Monitor micronutrients like sulfur, boron, and calcium

Heavy soils – ¼ to ½” • Sandy soils – ½ to ¾”

77-108 DAY SILAGE CORN SILAGE CORN

LEAFY SILAGE HYBRIDS Le a f y Silage varieties containing the Leafy genetics have eight or more leaves above the ear. The leaves above the ear contain less lignin than those below the ear. A dual-purpose hybrid is often significantly taller than a grain hybrid, but the ear placement sets our Leafy silage hybrids apart in terms of feed quality and digestibility. Leafy silage hybrids have 5-7% more starch digestibility than dual-purpose or grain hybrids. Leafy hybrids were discovered and later commercialized in 1985 by world-renowned silage researcher, Dr. Francis Glenn. Today’s Leafy hybrids also contain traits, making them a great option for corn-on-corn situations often faced by dairy and livestock producers.

NEW!

In addition to these eight silage hybrids, we offer a complete lineup of dual-purpose hybrids, clearly marked in the corn products section with the dual-purpose image shown.

95-105 DAY SILAGE CORN SILAGE CORN

LEGEND NEXT GENERATION HYBRIDS Le a f y & Flour y Legend Seeds was extremely proud to be the first seed company to bring you Dr. Francis Glenn’s next advancement in silage hybrid genetics in 2014. While using a simple research technique and biting the kernels to test for harness and texture, Dr. Glenn discovered that the interior of the kernel in a recessive “floury” kernel is made entirely of white flour-type starch. The recessive “floury” genetics will express in up to 25% of the kernels on each ear, they are extremely soft and easily digestible. Because of this discovery and over a decade of breeding and research, Legend Next Generation (LNG) hybrids offer dairy and livestock producers a quick, 30-day ensiling period and 10-12% more starch digestibility than a dualpurpose or grain hybrid. The addition of the Floury genetics to the already available Leafy silage hybrids created a dream hybrid for silage situations: Leafy and Floury!

GENSSRIB - SmartStax® RIB Complete® Corn Blend is a mix of 95% Bt. traited, 5% refuge seed. You get all the benefits of SmartStax® technology, plus the convenience of 5% refuge seed interspersed in every bag. It has proven to have a 10 bu/A advantage over non-Bt. traited corn and a 20 bu/A advantage over non-Bt. treated corn + a soilapplied insecticide.

3010A - The Agrisure Artesian® 3010A trait stack brings together a hybrid that optimizes the conversion of water to grain, providing improved yield consistency, with control of corn borer and tolerance to both glyphosate and glufosinate herbicides.

CORN

CORN TECHNOLOGIES

3011A - The Agrisure Artesian® 3011A trait stack combines a hybrid that converts water to grain more efficiently than other hybrids, providing improved yield consistency, with traits that help control corn borer and corn rootworm, and offer herbicide flexibility.

VT3PRIB - Genuity® VT Triple PRO® RIB Complete® Corn Blend is a mix of 90% traited and 10% refuge seed. With refuge-in-a-bag, there’s no need to calculate or plant separate, structured refuge in the Corn-Growing Area. Dual modes of action protect against corn earworm and other above-ground, ear-feeding insects. An additional single mode of action provides protection from below-ground pests like corn rootworm.

VT2PRIB - VT Double PRO® RIB Complete® Corn Blend is a mix of 95% traited and 5% refuge seed. With refuge-in-a-bag, there’s no need to calculate or plant separate, structured refuge in the Corn-Growing Area. It contains dual modes of action for maximum protection against corn earworm and other above-ground pests, like European and Southwestern corn borers and fall armyworm.

GTA - The Agrisure Artesian® GTA trait stack combines a hybrid that optimizes the conversion of water to grain and provides improved yield consistency with tolerance to in-crop applications of glyphosate-based herbicides.

DC 5222 E-Z Refuge - The Agrisure Duracade® 5222 E-Z Refuge® trait stack is the ultimate trait stack for insect control, simplicity and choice, featuring multiple modes of action against corn rootworm, corn borer and ear-feeding corn insects with the convenience of an integrated E-Z Refuge seed blend. * Important: Always read and follow label and bag tag instructions; only those labeled as tolerant to glufosinate may be sprayed with glufosinate ammonium based herbicides.

RR - Roundup Ready® Corn 2 contains in-plant tolerance to Roundup® brand herbicides, enabling growers to spray Roundup® brands over the top, from planting through the V8 stage or 30-inch corn height, with excellent crop safety and no yield reduction. Compared to popular conventional corn programs, the Roundup Ready® Corn 2 system costs less, while allowing hybrids to reach their maximum yield potential. While the U.S. regulatory agencies have given full approval to Roundup Ready® Corn 2 for commerce in the U.S. for marketing and consumption as food, food ingredients and feed for livestock, certain regulatory approvals are pending in certain export markets. For more information on these approvals, or for assistance in locating domestic grain outlets, see the American Seed Trade Association web site (www.amseed.org) or contact Monsanto directly at 800-768-6387.

3000GT - The Agrisure® 3000GT trait stack offers control of corn borer and corn rootworm with tolerance to both glyphosate and glufosinate herbicides.

3120 E-Z Refuge - The Agrisure® 3120 E-Z Refuge® trait stack offers the convenience of an integrated E-Z Refuge® seed blend plus multiple modes of action against corn borer, as well as suppression of ear-feeding insects. * Important: Always read and follow label and bag tag instructions; only those labeled as tolerant to glufosinate may be sprayed with glufosinate ammonium based herbicides.

3122 E-Z Refuge - The Agrisure® 3122 E-Z Refuge® trait stack offers the convenience of an E-Z Refuge® seed blend with multiple modes of action against corn borer and corn rootworm, as well as suppression of ear-feeding insects. * Important: Always read and follow label and bag tag instructions; only those labeled as tolerant to glufosinate may be sprayed with glufosinate ammonium based herbicides.

RATING SCALE: 10-1; 10 = Superior, 5 = Average, 1 = Poor

GT - The Agrisure® GT trait provides tolerance to in-crop applications of glyphosatebased herbicides. This hybrid is an excellent option for refuge acres in a structured refuge operation.

GTCBLL - Corn borer control with glyphosate and glufosinate tolerance.

VIP3110 - The Agrisure Viptera® 3110 trait stack offers the most comprehensive above-ground insect control in the industry. It is ideal for areas where corn rootworm management is not a key focus.

VIP3220 E-Z Refuge - The Agrisure Viptera® 3220 E-Z Refuge® trait stack offers the most comprehensive above-ground insect control in the industry with multiple modes of action against above-ground insects and the convenience of an integrated E-Z Refuge® seed blend. It is ideal for areas where corn rootworm management is not a primary concern.

VIP3220A E-Z Refuge - The Agrisure Viptera® 3220A E-Z Refuge® trait stack combines the benefits of a hybrid that maximizes yield when it rains and increases yield when it doesn’t, with the most comprehensive above-ground insect control in the industry and the convenience of an integrated E-Z Refuge® seed blend. It is ideal for areas where corn rootworm management is not a primary concern.

OTHER COMPANIES TALK ABOUT HOW GOOD THEIR PRODUCTS ARE...

OUR GROWERS DO THE TALKING FOR US! “Great soybeans. Great salesmen. Great company. Great results!”

PAUL FOSSUM - MOORHEAD, MN “I grow Non-GMO corn. Kudos to Legend for maintaining, growing, and offering high yielding, good standing and adaptable hybrids for North Dakota.”

“If my father or grandfather were alive today, they would be astonished by these yields. I’m very pleased with Legend and their superior lineup of products.”

RICH BACK - SHEBOYGAN FALLS, WI “You could tell in the combine when we got to LR 9495 RR. It was good on both the heavy and light portions of the field. It was easy to harvest as well.”

PAUL ANDERSON - HARVEY, ND

JAMES & JOHN SCHULZ - UNIONVILLE, MI

“ LR 9407 GENSSRIB has been the top yielding corn on this farm by 20 bushels since I have been farming it. Legend hybrids handle stress well.” “I’ve been 100% Legend Seeds for a couple years now. I’ve stuck with them because of the consistent, high yields in both their corn and soybean varieties.”

MARLYN THORSTENSON - SELBY, SD

RANDY ENOBBIE - LAURENS, IA “ I’ve planted Legend Seeds LNG 9505 RR for three years. Every year when I switch from my dual-purpose corn silage to my LNG corn silage pile, I get a 2-3 pound per day increase in milk production and an increase in protein to fat components. I love the wide harvest window.”

ROGER SPRAKEL - CROFTON, NE

Seed treated with Flow & Shine has an enhanced shiny appearance that seed handlers and growers notice immediately. Beyond appearance, seed finished with Flow & Shine flows better through seed handling equipment and planters. This means fewer problems with seed bridging and sticking for more consistent seeding and planting performance.

The combination improves emergence, stand establishment, and utilizes increase nitrogen levels. Preside® CL is a registered trademark of Verdesian Life Sciences, LLC.

QuickRoots®

QuickRoots

®

uickRoots® is a microbial seed inoculant that increases nutrient use efficiency. Two Q microbes work to release phosphorus bound in the soil, which increases root volume along with nitrogen and potassium uptake. This in turn, supports root and shoot growth for an overall healthier and more robust plant, leading to increased yield potential. QuickRoots® is a trademark of Monsanto Technology LLC.

Drought Tolerance

LL - The LibertyLink® system is the simply better solution for a stronger yield and superior weed control. Proven by over 2,100 observations across the Midwest, Delta, Northeast and Southeast in the 2016 Official Variety Trials, LibertyLink has a 2+ bu/ac advantage over Asgrow® Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® soybeans.* Plus, LibertyLink was ranked the No. 1 soybean system in 2017 by growers.

Emergence

XTEND - Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® Soybeans are built on the high yielding Roundup Ready 2 Yield® soybean technology. Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® is the industry’s first biotech-stacked soybean trait with both dicamba and glyphosate herbicide tolerance. With tolerance to glyphosate and dicamba, farmers will have access to additional tools to help control glyphosate-resistant broadleaf weeds such as Palmer amaranth, waterhemp and marestail, along with other tough-to-control broadleaf weeds such as lambsquarters and velvetleaf. The technology offers the yield and quality potential that farmers already know and trust from their Roundup Ready 2 Yield® soybeans.

SUNFLOWERS WHAT TYPE OF SUNFLOWER IS RIGHT FOR YOUR OPERATION? Sunflowers are a unique crop that give growers the opportunity to sell in several different markets. But what hybrid is right for your operation? Whether it is NuSun®, high oleic, conoil, or confections, Nuseed has a hybrid that is made to perform in your field.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS

SPECIALTY TRAITS are important to consider when planning for your in-season weed control options and crop rotations. Nuseed offers hybrids with Clearfield ® or ExpressSun® herbicide traits as well as resistance to multiple races of downy mildew (DMR).

MARKETS may be one of the most important factors in determining what hybrid is right for your farm. Whether it be a NuSun® or a high oleic hybrid for the crush or bird food market; a conoil hybrid for the dehull market; or a confection hybrid for the in-shell market, Nuseed has a hybrid that will perform.

ROOT/STALK RATINGS help a grower to understand the strength of a hybrid’s roots and stalks throughout the growing season. Late season plant health can also be a factor in stalk strength. We provide hybrids that have been thoroughly tested to stand tall through the harshest of environments.

OIL CONTENT can be an important factor when choosing a sunflower hybrid depending on which market the sunflowers are being sold into. The oil crush market wants a higher oil content, but a hybrid being sold into the dehull market is less concerned.

TEST WEIGHT in sunflowers can be important depending on which processor is taking the seed. Most birdfood markets, for example, want a higher test weight.

HIGH OLEIC SUNFLOWERS High oleic seed was developed through traditional breeding methods to deliver much higher levels of monounsaturated fats (oleic content) than traditional oil sunflower seeds. High oleic sunflower oil has a longer, more stable shelf-life, neutral taste profile, and heart healthy benefits that make it attractive for commercial cooking applications. A typical fatty acid ratio for high oleic oil is 85% oleic acid, 8% linoleic acid and 7% combined saturates with some hybrids producing as much as 90% oleic acid.

NUSUN® SEED

Seed Type Oil

The NuSun® sunflower oil profile was developed by the U.S. National Sunflower Association, in coordination with the USDA, to create an oil essential for the food industry. NuSun oil has a naturally high smoke point and does not require trans-fat creating hydrogenation to remain stable at high temperatures. It has a good shelf life and neutral taste profile making it an excellent choice for frying oil. A typical fatty acid ratio is 65% oleic acid, 26% linoleic acid and 9% combined saturates.

SUNFLOWERS

DEHULL SUNFLOWERS DEHULL SEED A dehull sunflower seed can either be an oilseed or a conoil, which is a cross between an oilseed and a confection. Dehull is the most versatile of sunflower seed types and offers opportunities across multiple markets including kernel, oil, and confection. Most production is sold into the kernel market where the seeds are mechanically hulled by a processor. This is more easily accomplished with dehull seeds as the shell is loosely attached to the meat and readily separates. The largest consumption of dehull seed comes from wholesalers, bakeries, and sunbutter manufacturers.

CONFECTION SUNFLOWERS SUNFLOWERS

Panther DMR

CONFECTION SEED

Seed Type Conf.

In the U.S., confection sunflower production is divided into three markets by the size of the seed grown. The largest of the seeds are sold in the shell. These are the familiar snacking seeds in a heavy black shell with a characteristic white stripe. They are generally over half an inch in length with half their weight coming from the kernel. The medium-sized seeds are mechanically hulled by the processor and sold into the kernel market. They can be sold raw, roasted as a snack, or used as an ingredient. The smallest of the sunflower seeds are used in the bird feed and pet food market.

The Clearfield® Production System is a well-established global brand that encompasses a broad range of crops, herbicides and geographies. In 2010, BASF introduced the Clearfield® Plus Production System – the next generation of traits for enhanced tolerance and weed control. Wherever growers use the Clearfield and Clearfield Plus Production Systems, they understand they will deliver exceptional weed control, convenience and the agronomic traits that meet their specific local needs. To preserve the long-term of the Clearfield and Clearfield Plus sunflower technology, certain stewardship practices must be followed. Clearfield and Clearfield Plus sunflower producers are asked to help protect and prolong the usefulness of this technology by following specific requirements and recommendations to help prevent weed resistance.

NuSun® sunflower oil is stable without partial hydrogenation. It outshines other oils for commercial use by providing optimal healthy benefits, great taste, and superior performance, while remaining trans fat free. NuSun oil is the ‘new’ midoleic sunflower oil. It is lower in saturated fat (less than 10%) than linoleic sunflower oil and has higher oleic levels (55-75%) with the remainder being linoleic (15-35%). Seed Treatment Statement: All Nuseed hybrids are treated with the latest fungicide and insecticide seed treatment technology to help protect your seed investment. Nuseed® is a registered trademark of Nufarm Australia Limited. NuSun® is a registered trademark of the National Sunflower Association. DuPont™ and ExpressSun® are trademarks of DuPont and its affiliates. Express® is a registered trademark of FMC Corporation or an affiliate. Clearfield® and Beyond® are registered trademarks of BASF.

The ExpressSun trait system is designed to maximize weed control in sunflower crops, thereby enhancing production and yields. ExpressSun combines herbicidetolerant sunflower seed with the Express trait herbicide to provide improved weed control over conventional systems. This revolutionary production system offers: •  Broad-spectrum control of suppression of broadleaf weeds •  Simplified approach to weed control in sunflowers •  Cost-effective crop management •  Complete re-cropping flexibility the following year

SPECIALTY PRODUCTS SORGHUM

LA CROSSE SEED PARTNERSHIP

Legend Seeds is proud to offer a full lineup of grain sorghum, forage sorghum, and sorghum sudangrass. Read below to determine which type of sorghum would best fit your operation: Grain Sorghum can take many shapes, sizes, and various colors. Legend Seeds offers two red and one white grain sorghum varieties. Red sorghum is traditionally grown and used in all segments of the sorghum industry while white sorghum is typically made into flour for the food industry. Sorghum-Sudangrass is a cross between sorghum and sudangrass and is typically used for grazing, haying, and haylage. It is a finer-stemmed, warm season, annual grass that will regrow after each harvest. Sorghum sudangrass can grow up to 15 feet tall and typically has small seed heads with leaves that are similar to corn but are shorter and sometimes wider. Varieties with the BMR gene have significantly improved digestibility and palatability. Forage Sorghum typically grows 8-15 feet tall and is most popular for use as silage for feeding livestock. Depending on which species and variety selected, forage sorghum can be used for grazing pasture, hay production, silage, and green-chop. Talk to your Legend Seeds representative today to determine which sorghum would be best for your operation!

As Your Regional Seed Leader we’re dedicated to providing you with consistent producing, top quality products. To ensure that, we’ve partnered with La Crosse Seed to provide you more options and choices to fit your operation. Through this partnership, we are able to offer you a lineup of small grains, grasses, forage mixes, and cover crops. Vivant Hybrid Brassica Vivant Hybrid Brassica is a quick-growing brassica (upright and spreading cool-season annual) with very little bulb development. Vivant is best suited for multiple grazing cycle situations because of its excellent regrowth. It can be used to extend the grazing season in the fall or planted alongside warm season annuals for multiple grazings in the summer. With proper management (first grazing in 40-45 days AND subsequent grazing cycles every 25 - 30 days when grazed no less than 4”), it has the potential to yield over 5 tons of dry matter an acre. • Known for its quick regrowth, even under close grazing • Different than turnips, all the energy of the plant is contained in the leaves • High digestibility - suitable for dairy, beef, and sheep • When fed, brassicas need to be combined with other forages (no more than 1/3 of the total animal diet) to prevent potential livestock disorders
