SPECIALTY PRODUCTS SORGHUM
LA CROSSE SEED PARTNERSHIP
Legend Seeds is proud to offer a full lineup of grain sorghum, forage sorghum, and sorghum sudangrass. Read below to determine which type of sorghum would best fit your operation: Grain Sorghum can take many shapes, sizes, and various colors. Legend Seeds offers two red and one white grain sorghum varieties. Red sorghum is traditionally grown and used in all segments of the sorghum industry while white sorghum is typically made into flour for the food industry. Sorghum-Sudangrass is a cross between sorghum and sudangrass and is typically used for grazing, haying, and haylage. It is a finer-stemmed, warm season, annual grass that will regrow after each harvest. Sorghum sudangrass can grow up to 15 feet tall and typically has small seed heads with leaves that are similar to corn but are shorter and sometimes wider. Varieties with the BMR gene have significantly improved digestibility and palatability. Forage Sorghum typically grows 8-15 feet tall and is most popular for use as silage for feeding livestock. Depending on which species and variety selected, forage sorghum can be used for grazing pasture, hay production, silage, and green-chop. Talk to your Legend Seeds representative today to determine which sorghum would be best for your operation!

Vivant Hybrid Brassica Vivant Hybrid Brassica is a quick-growing brassica (upright and spreading cool-season annual) with very little bulb development. Vivant is best suited for multiple grazing cycle situations because of its excellent regrowth. It can be used to extend the grazing season in the fall or planted alongside warm season annuals for multiple grazings in the summer. With proper management (first grazing in 40-45 days AND subsequent grazing cycles every 25 - 30 days when grazed no less than 4”), it has the potential to yield over 5 tons of dry matter an acre. • Known for its quick regrowth, even under close grazing • Different than turnips, all the energy of the plant is contained in the leaves • High digestibility - suitable for dairy, beef, and sheep • When fed, brassicas need to be combined with other forages (no more than 1/3 of the total animal diet) to prevent potential livestock disorders
