Protect Your Investment

LEGEND SEEDS CORN TREATMENT OFFERINGS Once you’ve put the seed in the ground, maximum return on investment starts with uniform emergence. A wide range of insects and diseases will attack your crop, slowing emergence and reducing your stand even before the first shoot sees the light of day. Legend Seeds protects your investment in premium genetics with a premium seed treatment package designed to defeat insects and diseases plus intensify early plant growth.

QuickRoots

®

QuickRoots® technology helps maximize corn yields — especially in fields with limitations in moisture or nutrient availability. QuickRoots technology offers the enhanced nutrient capability of nitrogen, phosphate and potassium, which support root and shoot growth — leading to a stronger crop and greater yield potential. Benefits of QuickRoots: • Increases phosphate availability and uptake, which increases root volume. • Enables better plant growth and increases yield potential. • Larger root volume helps the plant access more moisture and nutrients, including nitrogen and potassium. • Protect corn from stress with increased moisture and nutrient availability. • QuickRoots® is a trademark of Novozymes A/S. Corn products labeled with with QuickRoots!

Always read and follow label directions.

Why shou I use ld Env ita? • Flexi ble Us e Op

For Use On: Corn & Soybeans (and other crops) The only N-fixing bacteria that works from within the plant (above and below ground) and across crops to supplement nitrogen.

The benefits of using Envita outweigh the risk of NOT using it. I’ve tested it two years in a row, and corn treated with it consistently yields more, has better test weight and is a good 1/2 point drier. It will go on every acre I have from now on.

How Does Soyfx Increase Branching?

oten

tial

Soyfx treated soybean plants

Increased Nodulation

• Facilitative anaerobic bacteria support the production of nodules in upper inch of soil

Microbes contained within Soyfx manipulate the plant into activating the lower axillary buds into developing branches

• Independent research documented a 23% increase in nodulation with Soyfx

Increased Pods

• Additional branching and less aborted flowers/pods helps support higher pod counts. • We sampled 145 Soyfx treated plants compared to 145 non-treated plants from the same field • 28% increase in pod count with the Soyfx treated plants

Planted soybeans treated with Soyfx , this year and averaged 94.5 bushel across a field. This was calculated off of load slips. Yield monitor had as high as 106 bu. Very happy and have never had soybeans yield like this on this farm.

sed B

• Nodules fix Nitrogen into a form usable by plants

Efficacy after Hail Event

• Microbes within Soyfx trigger regrowth at point of breakage rather than relying on lower axillary buds • Soyfx allows for a quicker, more aggressive recovery from a hailstorm resulting in lower yield loss

Improved Emergence

Our experience with IONfx this year was not only very successful for increasing yields, but the ROI pencils out great. We made money in it! Our small grains with IONfx in both seed coating and foliar were so successful it is now part of our standard seed treatment program on all our small grains and corns. Best of all my clients are very excited to include IONfx on their seed next season.

IONfx Silage Summary

In 2020, silage testing was conducted across 7 locations in the upper Midwest to compare IONfx responsiveness in 4 silage products vs. untreated (control). The data set included 13 paired comparison samples.

ALFALFA

Legend Seeds offers six alfalfa choices to support your goals and operation needs. These varieties range from high quality traited alfalfa packages to conventional blend options.

• HarvXtra® Alfalfa contains industry leading

genetic enhancements that reduce the lignin content and increase forage quality. This allows flexibility to harvest at the regular interval and get very high quality forage or delay harvest to increase yield and get similar quality as a conventional alfalfa at an earlier growth stage. Research shows that cutting HarvXtra® 7 to 10 days later than conventional alfalfa provides similar quality.

• Roundup Ready® Alfalfa What if you could

harvest new seeding alfalfa with no herbicide stunting and get dairy quality forage? That is the reality this technology offers - easy weed control management, excellent crop safety, and higherpercentage of pure alfalfa hay.

STEPS TO SUCCESSFUL ALFALFA SEEDING SITE SELECTION: • Alfalfa does best on well-drained deep soils • Avoid hilltops, shallow and highly eroded soils, and fields with low spots where water is known to pool • Following alfalfa in the rotation with newly seeded alfalfa is not advisable due to autotoxicity

SEEDBED PREPARATION • Provide a proper seedbed with firm ground & small clods. Preferably roll the ground before and/or after planting • Good seed–to–soil contact is essential for uniform emergence

SEEDING RATE: • 12-20 lbs. pure live seed (PLS) per acre

Unlock your alfalfa plant’s ability to produce its own growth regulators and metabolites! • Larger leaves and more branching • Better leaf retention • Promotes regrowth after cutting • Increased tons per acre • General stress mitigation Alfalfa Bales per Acre

SEEDING DEPTH: • Heavy soils – ¼ to ½” • Sandy soils – ½ to ¾” SOIL FERTILITY AND pH • A soil test should be done prior to field preparation to determine the fertility needs • Fertility management ensures good stands and vigorous growth o Soil pH is extremely important in establishing alfalfa and in high production acres o Maintain soil pH between 6.7 and 6.9 since soil nutrients are most available within this range o Phosphorus is critical to healthy root development and stand establishment o Potassium is needed for good plant growth, high yields, and winter hardiness

SILAGE

Many silage products boast only one quality of the plant, such as fiber digestibility, grain yield, or kernel type. Chances are that the other characteristics of these hybrids were bred for grain. The best silage products have been bred to achieve total plant silage qualities.

LEAFY HYBRIDS - More Leaves = Higher Starch!

Leafy Corn Silage Hybrids are bred to produce a high yield of digestible fiber and starch. Leafy’s extra leaves above the ear (eight or more) increase the leaf area index of the plant, allowing for more sugar production. These sugars are converted to starch in the ear. Leafy hybrids have flex-type ears and the extra leaves help to develop and fill those ears with starch. Leafy silage hybrids have 5-7% more starch digestibility than dual-purpose or grain hybrids.

Expect more from your silage crop.

PHOTOS FROM THE FIELD

Extra leaves also increase tonnage. A Leafy crop stands taller and fuller than non-Leafy hybrids. Leafy Corn Silage Hybrids must be planted at low populations of 28,000 - 30,000 plants per acre to realize their optimal yield, but because each plant produces more dry matter than a dual-purpose hybrid, you can achieve top yields with less seed.

OCK

Floury Leafy Corn Silage Hybrids have a silage specific kernel type that behaves differently in the field, the chopper, the silo, and the rumen. They contain a naturally occurring recessive gene called opaque-1. In the farmer’s field, a segregation of kernel type is seen on the ear. Approximately 25% of the kernels on each ear have completely floury interiors. The other 75% of the kernel set is composed of normal Leafy type kernels. All kernels are selected to be large, soft, and slow drying so that they will fracture easily during chopping and cow chewing for maximum starch digestibility. Expect starch to be 10-12% more digestible. Floury Leafy Corn Silage Hybrids must be planted at low populations of 28,000 - 30,000 plants per acre to realize their optimal yield.

SORGHUM In the United States and other countries across the globe, sorghum grain is primarily used for livestock feed and ethanol production but it is becoming popular in the consumer food industry and other emerging markets. Traditionally, nearly one-third of the U.S. sorghum crop is used for renewable fuel production. In fact, sorghum produces the same amount of ethanol per bushel as comparable feedstocks while using up to one-third less water.

FOOD FEED FUEL

Legend Seeds is proud to offer a full lineup of grain sorghum, sorghum-sudangrass, and forage sorghum. Read below to determine which type of sorghum would best fit your operation:

• GRAIN SORGHUM can take many shapes, sizes, and

various colors. Legend Seeds offers two red and one white grain sorghum varieties. Red sorghum is traditionally grown and used in all segments of the sorghum industry while white sorghum is typically made into flour for the food industry.

• SORGHUM-SUDANGRASS is a cross between sorghum

and sudangrass and is typically used for grazing, haying, and haylage. It is a finer stemmed, warm season, annual grass that will regrow after each harvest. Sorghum-sudangrass can grow up to 15 feet tall and typically has small seed heads with leaves that are similar to corn but are shorter and sometimes wider. Varieties with the BMR gene have significantly greater digestibility and palatability.

ALL SORGHUM PRODUCTS ARE TREATED WITH

Concep® III seed safener protects sorghum crops from herbicide injury and allows preemergence applications of herbicides containing S-metolachlor for ultimate grass and broadleaf weed control. Introduced in 1979, Concep® III was the first proven seed safener marketed for sorghum, controlling the phytotoxic effects of S-metolachlor herbicide for long lasting weed control.

ADVANTAGES: • Unique seed safener for sorghum • Protects grain and forage sorghum from herbicide injury • Allows the use of Dual® and Bicep® brand herbicides for preemergent grass and broadleaf weed control. Concep® is a registered trademark of a Syngenta Group Company.

• FORAGE SORGHUM typically grows 8-15 feet tall and is

SUNFLOWERS What type of sunflower is right for your operation?

Sunflowers are a unique crop that give growers the opportunity to sell in several different markets. But what hybrid is right for your operation? Whether it is high oleic, NuSun®, conoil, or confection, Nuseed has locally bred hybrids designed to perform in your field.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS • MARKETS may be one of the first factors in determining what hybrid is right for your farm. Whether it be a high oleic or a NuSun® hybrid for the crush or bird food market; a conoil hybrid for the dehull market; or a confection hybrid for the in-shell market, Nuseed has a hybrid to meet your buyer’s specifications. • HERBICIDE TOLERANCE is important to consider when planning for your in-season weed control options and crop rotations. Nuseed offers hybrids with Clearfield®, Clearfield® Plus, or ExpressSun® herbicide traits. • DISEASE RESISTANCE, including protection against multiple races of downy mildew, improved late season plant health and product quality. • ROOT/STALK RATINGS help a grower to understand the strength of a hybrid’s roots and stalks throughout the growing season. Stalk strength can also be a factor in late season plant health. We provide hybrids that have been thoroughly tested in the United States to stand tall through the harshest of environments.

Whether you grow for oil, dehull, or confection there is a Nuseed hybrid right for every field and every market. Developed in the U.S. and proven under local conditions for top performance.

• OIL CONTENT can be an important factor when choosing a sunflower hybrid depending on which market the sunflowers are being sold into. The oil crush market wants a higher oil content, but a hybrid being sold into the dehull market is less concerned.

•T EST WEIGHT in sunflowers can be important depending on which processor is taking the seed. Most bird food markets, for example, want a higher test weight.

HIGH OLEIC SUNFLOWERS High oleic seed was developed through traditional breeding methods to deliver much higher levels of mono-unsaturated fats (oleic content) than traditional oil sunflower seeds. High oleic sunflower oil has a longer, more stable shelf-life, neutral taste profile, and heart healthy benefits that make it attractive for commercial cooking applications. A typical fatty acid ratio for high oleic oil is greater than 82% oleic acid, with some hybrids producing as much as 90% oleic acid.

We had good luck with the Nuseed sunflowers. Always have good test weight and good oil content. Also seem to have good disease tolerance. Our biggest discovery for higher yields is to have a 3-year crop rotation between sunflower crops.

NUSUN® SUNFLOWERS Early/Group 2

The NuSun® sunflower oil profile was developed by the U.S. National Sunflower Association, in coordination with the USDA, to create an oil essential for the food industry. NuSun® oil has a naturally high smoke point and does not require trans-fat creating hydrogenation to remain stable at high temperatures. It has a good shelf life and neutral taste profile making it an excellent choice for frying oil. A typical fatty acid ratio is 65% oleic acid, 26% linoleic acid, and 9% combined saturates.

• Conoil, Beyond® herbicide tolerant • High yield is matched with high test weight • Excellent hullability and meat-to-hull ratio • Striped seed for hulling • Resistant to multiple races of downy mildew

A conoil sunflower seed is a cross between an oilseed and a confection. Conoils are the most versatile of sunflower seed types and offer opportunities across multiple markets including kernel, oil, and confection. Most production is sold into the kernel market where the seeds are mechanically hulled by a processor. This is more easily accomplished with dehull seeds as the shell is loosely attached to the meat and readily separates. The largest consumption of dehull seed comes from wholesalers, bakeries, and sunbutter manufacturers.

EMERGENCE

In the U.S., confection sunflower production is divided into three markets by the size of the seed grown. The largest of the seeds are sold in the shell. These are the familiar snacking seeds in a heavy black shell with a characteristic white stripe. They are generally over half an inch in length with half their weight coming from the kernel. The medium-sized seeds are mechanically hulled by the processor and sold into the kernel market. They can be sold raw, roasted as a snack, or used as an ingredient. The smallest of the sunflower seeds are used in the bird feed and pet food markets.

User further agrees that the exclusive venue for any dispute arising under this Agreement or in connection to any breach thereof shall be in the federal or state courts for Dallas County, Iowa, and hereby irrevocably consents to the personal jurisdiction of such courts. This Agreement shall be governed under the laws of the State of Iowa. User agrees and acknowledges that any use of the Seed, which is forbidden by this Agreement, will damage STINE and its suppliers’ legitimate expectation of future sales of seed, and any use of Seed in violation of this Agreement will constitute an attempt to intentionally injure or destroy STINE and its suppliers’ prospective business expectations in future sales of seed. User agrees and acknowledges that any use of Seed from STINE in violation of this Agreement will cause substantial damage to STINE and/or its suppliers, and that if subsequent production of the Seed is used to create a seed variety or seed product, substantial damage to STINE and or its suppliers for all seed varieties or seed products thereby created will be caused. This Agreement shall not limit any other rights, legal or equitable, that STINE and its suppliers have but shall be accumulative. User agrees to only use agricultural herbicide that are expressly labeled for use in conjunction with the Seed and have received government approvals as specified in a product use guide. NOTICE OF REQUIRED ARBITRATION Under the seed laws of several states arbitration, mediation or conciliation is required as a prerequisite to maintaining a legal action based upon the failure of seed to produce as represented. The consumer shall file a complaint along with the required filing fee (where applicable) with the Commissioner/Director/ Secretary of Agriculture, Seed Commissioner, or Chief Agricultural Officer within such time as to permit inspection of the crops, plants or trees by the designated agency and the seller from whom the seed was purchased. A copy of the complaint shall be sent to the seller by certified or registered mail or as otherwise provided by state statute. OTHER TERMS & CONDITIONS For sale in the U.S. only. STINE assumes no responsibility for STINE‘s supplier’s, distributor’s or dealer’s verbal and/or written claims, promises, warranties or actions which are contrary to STINE’s normal operating policies. USER must notify STINE within fourteen (14) days of becoming aware of alleged issues regarding the quality or performance of the Seed. LIMITATION OF WARRANTIES & DAMAGES STINE warrants, to the extent of the purchase price and to the extent that the packaging and label have not been compromised, that the Seed is as described on the package and on the tag attached thereto within recognized tolerances. STINE gives no other WARRANTY, expressed or implied, of MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS of the Seed for any particular purpose, nor any warranty against loss due to any cause, including environmental conditions, soil conditions, chemicals or farming practices, or the response of the Seed to any such conditions. STINE shall not be liable for incidental or consequential damages, including loss of profits. STINE’S LIABILITY for damages for any cause, including breach of contract, breach of warranty, and negligence, with respect to the sale of seed is LIMITED to the purchase price of the Seed.
