New Carette Tearoom

A real institution right on the Place des Vosges with its own terrace... This chic and ultra-gourmet address gets the French tearoom experience just right - suitably Gallic pastries, cosy and warm, served by ladies in white aprons... For breakfast: a marvellous hot chocolate or coffee and croissant for €7, unless you prefer to indulge in the tempting brunch served each morning! Freshly squeezed juices + hot drink + pastries + bread, butter and jam + scrambled eggs (their specialty!). And why not bring home a few macaroons, chestnut cream cakes or other cult pastries? We love... The decor by Hubert de Givenchy, the nephew of the famous couturier, who has preserved the Art Deco ambiance and caned chairs of the original tearoom on the Place du Trocadéro. Fab! Its terrace under the arches of the square: sunny in summer, warmed in winter by heaters, and with a view of the garden. 25, place des Vosges - 75003 Paris - 01 48 87 94 07 AN ADDRESS FOR BEAUTY AND INSPIRATION

Never overly-formal but always elegant, inspired by wildflowers but never kitsch, his bouquets are quite simply true marvels both for the eyes and for the nose. He’s THE florist of sophisticated Parisians, and it’s not for nothing that fashionistas are desperate to tear a leaf out of his book! It’s also a popular destination for sourcing great ideas for future dinner parties. 22, rue Jean Nicot - 75007 Paris 01 45 50 43 54 - www.unjourdefleurs.com

AN UNUSUAL ADDRESS

At the amazing Joséphine Baker pool, on the banks of the Seine, you can tone your pretty legs for next to nothing! At the foot of the imposing François Mitterrand Library, on the river and level with the water, you can play at being a Parisian mermaid. The idea? You can also join aqua-jogging or aqua-cycling classes to prepare for those tanning sessions on the beach. There’s nothing like a good dose of cardio training to lose weight and control cellulite! With its unrivalled view of the Seine, this is THE pool of the summer! How much? (€6 for classes and €3 entrance fee) Port de la Gare - Quai François Mauriac - 75013 Paris - 01 56 61 96 50 BAR

Park Hyatt Paris - Vendôme

You can easily picture yourself in a scene from one of Sofia Coppola’s movies here. It’s glamourissimo and a far cry from the other luxury hotels in this part of Paris. This particular Hyatt cultivates a contemporary appeal and its ”anti-Chesterfield armchair” philosophy is deeply embedded in the Parisian mind of what a hotel bar should be. To kick off a dream evening, why not settle down near the ultra-modern fireplace, unless you prefer the gracious square courtyard for inveterate smokers (and a hotspot for incognito stars), while sipping a stupendous cocktail that only a few luxury hotels get right. The genius big shot behind these magical nectars at the bar is Yann Daniel, a mixing god and creator of the now mythical Park Hyatt Flower, a cocktail made with champagne, lychees and rose. The haute couture tapas are a perfect match for long drinks: mini-burgers, eggs with foie gras and other delicate finger foods. Bar: 2pm to 2am - Fireplace room: 6.30pm to 2am Tapas: from €9 to €25 - Cocktail Park Hyatt Flower: €25 5, rue de la Paix - 75002 Paris - 01 58 71 12 34 - www.paris.vendome.hyatt.com DINNER ADDRESS

Ralph Lauren

Why not check out a stunning architectural project and the very New York collection of Ralph Lauren while also feasting on US delights in the store’s eatery? A preppy and peppy restaurant in the delightful courtyard of the mansion, where you can enjoy a luxury burger or top-class crab salad. Major US renovation has been combined with Saint-Germain style: craftspeople

Yves Saint Laurent : «La Révolution de la mode»

In the middle of the 1960s, while the great fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent pursued his artistic career in haute couture, he was also tapping into the emergence of a new world. It was at this point that he decided to launch what would become known as ”ready-to-wear”: more affordable collections, intended not for ”blasé multimillionaires”, but for bold and attractive working women. The opening of his store on 26 September 1966 at 21, rue de Tournon would be the dazzling manifesto for this new movement. No matter that the street saw little passing traffic, from the very next day society’s elite were already clamouring at the doors. ”The Fashion Revolution” exhibition takes you into the world of this luxury boutique designed by the talented Isabelle Hebey. Discover the Djinn purple bench that our grandmothers sat on, the lamps by the American-Japanese artist Isamu Noguchi, the red panelling, and the very first ready-to-wear collections by the great man who is still filling certain family trunks. An exhibition so realistic that you want to push aside the hangers for a better view, and which is bound to move you! 3, rue Léonce Reynaud 75116 Paris Tickets: 7 euros Concessions: 5 euros 5 March to 17 July 2011 Tuesday to Sunday, 11am to 6pm (9pm Thursdays)

CONCEPT STORE

Merci

siraP ydnerT

Slotted between a garden and a courtyard, in a former furniture fabrics warehouse in the Haute Marais district, the Merci concept store is redefining what a 21st century shop should be: relevant and generous! As soon as you walk in, a kind of alchemy takes place between the cleverly worked space of the building’s industrial past and the excellence of the fashion and decorative products on show. The ”arty” feel reinforces the wide-ranging product offer exquisitely arranged over 1500m2 with a mix that includes contemporary design and antique objects, vintage and designer clothing, hardware, haberdashery, flowers, a bookshop, café and restaurant. Visionary and committed, the capital’s very first charity shop donates a proportion of its profits to an assistance fund for children’s charities. A commendable initiative that’s worth travelling to see and which already has the backing of fashion designers, intellectuals and celebrities. The cherry on the cake is the attractive restaurant on the lower ground floor with a garden view. On the menu are ultra-fresh and healthy dishes: fennel-courgette carpaccio with pink peppercorns, quinoa with lemongrass, quiche of the day and some fantastic desserts (walnut and hazelnut cake, red fruit crumble). Allow €15. 111, boulevard Beaumarchais - 75003 Paris - 01 42 77 00 33 FASHION SHOPPING ADDRESS

Or the well-kept secret of an intimate fashion boutique that has carved its niche in the court of the great. The idea? One of the best vintage boutiques in Paris for finding carefully selected second-hand clothes, shoes and bags but also real collector pieces. Such as? Superb brand new pumps by Louis Vuitton, Pierre Hardy or Louboutin for €220, a Louis Vuitton by Marc Jacobs chiffon and sequin dress from the late 90s for €400, a Chloé lace embroidered dress (€200), famous label boots, an unusual selection of decorative items, among other things. 76, rue des Tournelles - 75003 Paris 01 48 87 08 61 www.odettavintage.com

LUNCH ADDRESS

Passage 53

Trendy Paris

It’s THE food buzz of the moment! This highly unusual bistro, nestled in an old Parisian covered passage, has just won its second Michelin star. The promise? A venue that is both unpretentious and at the same time beautifully designed, oozing charm with its Art Deco tiling and impeccable, relaxed service. Its greatest asset? A highly gastronomic and very Parisian eatery where you can laugh out loud or show up in jeans to enjoy a delightful meal without airs and graces. Super light! Even the most diet-conscious will love it here. Like a gourmet fashion show, designer plates follow one after the other like pieces in a collection: graphically beautiful, colourful, glowingly fresh, all in a light and ultra-refined style. Top chef... The Japanese chef Sako works only with the very best in meats (Hugo Desnoyers, the rock-star of butchers) and applies true genius to vegetables. The result? A little dish that resembles a Japanese garden. On the table... Like a gourmet gift, the menu is a surprise! In other words, each dish is a little gift waiting to be discovered. And each haute couture plate reveals a beautifully presented model. The must-tries. Under a finely-cut piece of Japanese daikon, a fresh and sensual scallop. An ode to the Jerusalem artichoke: mashed with a hint of sweetness and topped with an artichoke and truffle biscuit. Sublime! Oysters under a fluffy apple mousse and haddock foam with beluga caviar. And the desserts... They arrive all at once, like a deluxe gourmet café. On the programme? A chocolate tart with salted butter caramel biscuit, a mini tarte tatin, a little pot of milk chocolate, passion fruit and puffed rice, for that luxury crunch. We also like! Its top-class wines by the glass such as Gevrey Chambertin (€18 per glass). The prices? €55 for a 5-course lunch menu. €95 for the lunch and evening tasting menus (ten courses and five desserts) Reservation recommended. Closed Sundays and Mondays. 53, passage des Panoramas - 75002 Paris - 01 42 33 04 35 - www.passage53.com LINGERIE SWIMWEAR ADDRESS

Blow dry bar: HypeandHairy

siraP ydnerT

While New Yorkers and Londoners have fully embraced the blow dry bar, French women have been less well catered for until now. Good news! The concept has recently established itself in the capital. Offering drop-in blow drying and express hairdos, at HypeandHairy the sound of styling brushes and the hubbub of hairdryers make a fine chorus. Before a business lunch or romantic dinner, overloaded working girls and Parisian women in a hurry can easily accommodate a 20-minute blow dry, with no need for an appointment and rock-bottom prices. Let’s hope that this blow dry bar is the first of many! The added bonus: HypeandHairy also offers beauty treatments, waxing, manicures and pedicures, as well as modelling... express and customized beauty packages to bring out your best in 30 minutes. You’ll soon be totally addicted! 3, rue Taitbout 75009 Paris - 09 51 84 28 08 - www.hypeandhairy.com GOURMET BREAK

The latest hip address? An unusual little tearoom that’s totally rock‘n’roll and off-the-wall, where grannies and their trashy teens are bound to have a good time around a cup of Kusmi tea and a brightly-coloured, divine pop pastry. The ELEGANGZ Collective and the young, talented and tattoo-covered pastry chef, Guillaume Sanchez (formerly of Delmontel, Ladurée), are now squatting this bistro in the 1st arrondissement, establishing a real Parisian institution. Gourmet treats... On the counter, super-modern pastries and cakes are presented under a glass bell begging you to try them. Which you ab-so-lu-tely must! Allow €15 Rock-attitude... From Thursday to Saturday, bohemian happy hour with arty happenings, and live music from up-and-coming young talent. What else? A tattoo parlour in the basement with genuine tattoo artists producing incredible designs that are always unique and fully customised. A far cry from the grotty punk dives, this is the chic and safe place to get your tattoo. 95, rue Saint-Honoré - 75001 Paris www.horrorpicturetea.com

Carole Fakiel Experience

Trendy Paris

We looove... This ultra-modern, stylish grocery store-cum-bistro, managed by the Astier team along the lines of La Tête dans les Olives. Tops: like a foodie concept store, you can have a bite to eat on the premises. The gourmet goodies on offer? Bigorre pork, a potato terrine, and perfectly matured camembert. Stock up on groceries for the house or little foodie gifts: Maison Anne Sophie Pic spices, Cédric Casanova olive oils, Berthier jams, Terres Exotiques preserves and other chic and local products by Terroirs d’Avenir. The added bonus: open on Sundays for lunch with the opportunity to purchase a new stock of goodies. 42, rue Jean-Pierre-Timbaud - 75011 Paris - 01 43 55 09 49

Carole Fakiel has lived, travelled and interacted with others... From these encounters and experiences, she has produced a vibrant environment combining her two passions, fashion and decorating. Firstly her fashion items, both ethnic and rock-inspired: collections of jackets, morning coats and blouses that incorporate all the modes of current fashion while mixed with artisan know-how from a country she is particularly fond of, India. Her decorative wares are totally in keeping with her clothing and can be adapted to your needs. She invents, creates and tracks down each individual piece. Designed like an apartment, this boutique offers a rich vein of inspiration and special finds. A caravan of style that is constantly moving, it changes according to the whims and inspirations of the lady of the house. We liked: the Fil de la Vie bracelets (€249) to offer loved ones, multi-coloured origami by Didier Huffschmitt (€120) and Khadi beach dresses (€130). Push open the door of this apartment where everything is for sale! 38, rue Fabert - 75007 Paris - 09 53 15 95 77

What a beautiful day! Everyone’s off to the Rosa Bonheur to see the new decor in the bar! This ultra-trendy open-air café located in the Buttes Chaumont district of Paris is a hugely popular place for spending an evening under the stars, right in the middle of this huge park. Result? The perfect place! No-one will be refused entry (no doorman) and there’s always room, even for a crowd of 30. We love... the evening picnic nibbles that are so much more than just grub, thrilling the clientele in the form of great charcuterie and delicious dishes at mini prices. An easy solution for getting all your friends together, even if they’re totally broke! Serrano ham, chorizo, tabouleh, sea urchin taramasalata, salt cod and mashed potatoes, organic fruit cake to name but a few. We also like... drinking and dancing till midnight. The idea? Dinner at Le Derrière is of course great food, but it’s also and especially the setting and the atmosphere. Here you can play table football, smoke in a cupboard or eat on a bed! You can’t get much cooler and quirky than that. The scene of the crime? The ultra-cool dining room designed as a house interior with kitchen, living room and so on. The must-have experience when you’re out with a group of ten friends? Reserve the bedroom on the first floor and eat on the beds. Super trendy! We looove... The possibility of a ping-pong knockabout in the dining room between cheese and dessert. The must-try? Drink your aperitif and smoke in the smoker’s corner hidden on the first floor behind a secret door. Designed as an atticcum-cabinet of curiosities, the boys love to have a natter around the XL football table! Top! The roast chicken and casserole dishes for sharing. Delicious cooking at reasonable prices (€30). Even open Sundays! The owners of this ”psychedelic cabinet of curiosities” are none other than actor Gilles Lelouch, producer Hugo Sélignac, Romain Dian, boss of the Culture Hall and Antoine de Tavernost. We love. The terrific cocktails. The must-try? The mandarin pool! The added bonus? A super-people place, but without swank. A very ”fashion girl” cast at the bar but not a parade of 14-year-old Ukrainian models. 43, rue de Ponthieu - 75008 Paris

It’s the latest place for flirting! An ideal hotspot to surprise your lover and really impress him! The address? A hidden door in a Haussmann building, right on avenue Georges V. Take the zippy lift to the top floor and emerge in an ultra-stylish restaurant with amazing appeal and a wonderfully pastoral terrace. Its ”secret venue for those in the know” attracts the couture elite in this fashion-focused district. Food-wise? Light and gastronomic designer cuisine by chef Frédéric Vardon, formerly of Ducasse. While the men may prefer fillet of beef Rossini, the girls can’t resist the raw scallops, crab salad and diced vegetables, or the vegetable casserole. The wild dessert? A Mont-Blanc chestnut cream desert that won’t wait! Please note! The restaurant is closed on Saturdays 39, avenue George V - 75008 Paris 01 56 62 39 05 - www.le39v.com

Fashion fans should make a beeline for the Musée Bourdelle. The gorgeous collection of the great artist Madame Grès, taken from her real name Germaine Kebs, is on display for your pleasure. Known for her famous draping techniques, achieved using as little stitching as possible, Grès was also famous for the colours that she mixed and matched to perfection. While her work is known for its sculptural aesthetic, Grès dresses also convey rare purity and innocence. The sensuality emanating from the artist’s dresses transforms the exhibition and Museum into a kind of sublime dream which the visitor glides through with soft serenity! Tickets: €7 Musée Bourdelle - 18, rue Antoine Bourdelle 75015 Paris - 01 49 54 73 73
